For stable performance in Planet Zoo 2, aim for Windows 11, an Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, 16GB of RAM, an NVIDIA RTX 3070, AMD RX 6700 XT or Intel Arc A770-class graphics card, DirectX 12 and a 40GB SSD installation. The minimum supported tier is Windows 10 or 11, an Intel i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB RAM, an RTX 2060, RX 5600 XT or Arc A750-class GPU, DirectX 12 and 40GB of free space. Frontier recommends an SSD at minimum and requires one for the recommended tier.
Planet Zoo 2 requirements at a glance
Frontier Developments published two PC hardware tiers for the 13 October 2026 launch. The table below reproduces the published specifications and keeps the qualifications attached to each figure.

These are support tiers, not frame-rate promises. Frontier does not publish an FPS target, test resolution, graphics preset or benchmark result for a particular zoo size. A computer that meets minimum requirements is within the stated support floor, but the published table cannot guarantee a specific frame rate.

Planet Zoo 2 is a simulation in which the number of animals, guests, buildings and active systems can grow over time. The sequel also adds fully aquatic and flying species, aquariums and aviaries. Frontier says these animals use full 3D navigation. That makes graphics headroom especially relevant, although the official information does not quantify the performance cost of a large zoo or a particular habitat.

In practical terms, use the recommended tier as the sensible target for a new gaming PC or an upgrade. Use the minimum tier to answer whether the game is likely to launch within Frontier’s published support envelope. Neither tier tells you whether a crowded late-game zoo will hold a chosen FPS at a chosen resolution.
Minimum PC requirements explained
Processor: Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600
The minimum CPU options are an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600. They represent the processor class Frontier lists for entering the game, not a promise that every processor with a similar marketing name performs identically. Check the exact model in Windows before comparing it with the table; an older or lower-tier chip may not qualify simply because it has four or six cores.
Graphics: RTX 2060, RX 5600 XT or Arc A750
Minimum graphics hardware is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 with 6GB of VRAM, an AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT with 6GB or an Intel Arc A750 with 8GB. These are three alternative GPU families, so you need one listed class rather than all three. The VRAM figures belong to the named reference cards; a card that is merely described as “RTX,” “Radeon” or “Arc” is not automatically equivalent.

Memory, API and storage
Both tiers specify 16GB of system RAM, and the game requires DirectX 12. The minimum listing asks for 40GB of available storage and recommends an SSD. “Available” means free space at installation time; leave additional room for Windows, drivers, saves and future updates rather than filling the drive to its limit.
Recommended PC requirements explained
Processor: Core i7-10700K or Ryzen 7 5800X
Frontier’s recommended CPU is an Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. Compared with the minimum pair, these are newer, higher-tier desktop processors intended to provide more headroom for simulation work. The requirement does not state that a particular CPU will maintain a specific FPS when a zoo becomes very large; it identifies the processor level Frontier recommends.
Graphics: RTX 3070, RX 6700 XT or Arc A770
The recommended GPU options are an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 with 8GB, an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT with 12GB or an Intel Arc A770 with 16GB. This is a substantial step above the minimum graphics tier, while the RAM requirement remains unchanged. If your system is close to both tiers, graphics capability is the first comparison axis to use, followed by CPU generation.

Windows 11 and an SSD
The recommended specification calls for 64-bit Windows 11 and requires an SSD. Windows 10 is listed only in the minimum tier. A 40GB installation can fit on many drives, but a 1TB NVMe SSD is a practical capacity target if you also keep other games and applications installed. The 1TB figure is upgrade planning advice, not a Planet Zoo 2 requirement.

How to check whether your PC can run Planet Zoo 2
- Check Windows: Open Settings > System > About and confirm that the system type is 64-bit. Record whether you have Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Identify the CPU: In the same About page, read the processor model and compare the complete model number with the minimum and recommended CPUs above.
- Identify the GPU and VRAM: Open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, or use Task Manager’s Performance > GPU view. Compare the exact GPU model and memory with the listed cards.
- Check RAM: In Settings > System > About, confirm that installed memory is at least 16GB. The official table does not call for more than 16GB.
- Check DirectX: Press
Win+R, enterdxdiagand confirm that the DirectX version is 12. - Check the installation drive: In File Explorer, verify at least 40GB of free space on the drive where you will install the game. Confirm that drive is an SSD if you are targeting the recommended tier.
For a straightforward decision, a PC that matches or exceeds every minimum item is supported at the minimum level. A PC that matches the recommended CPU, GPU, Windows version, RAM, DirectX and SSD requirement is aligned with Frontier’s recommended tier. If one component falls below the floor, the whole system should be treated as below minimum rather than averaged across components.
Will an RTX 2060 run Planet Zoo 2?
Yes, an RTX 2060 with 6GB is explicitly listed in the minimum specification, so it is within Frontier’s published support tier when paired with the other minimum requirements. It is not the recommended GPU: Frontier names the RTX 3070 for that tier. The official pages provide no FPS, resolution or preset guarantee for either card, so an RTX 2060 should not be presented as a promise of a particular experience in a large or highly detailed zoo.

Do you need an SSD?
For the minimum tier, an SSD is recommended; for the recommended tier, it is required. The game still lists 40GB of available space in both tiers. Installing on an SSD is therefore the safest interpretation of Frontier’s guidance, especially if you are building a system intended to meet the recommended specification. Storage type does not replace the need for the required CPU, GPU, RAM and DirectX 12 support.

1. Upgrade the graphics card if it is below the minimum GPU tier
Start by comparing your card with the minimum reference classes: RTX 2060, RX 5600 XT or Arc A750. For the recommended target, compare against RTX 3070, RX 6700 XT or Arc A770. Exact current products, prices and power requirements change, so verify the card’s dimensions, power connectors and compatibility with your case and power supply before buying. Treat the named cards as reference classes, not a guarantee that every later or lower-power variant is equivalent.

If your CPU is below the i7-8700K/Ryzen 5 3600 minimum pair, check your motherboard socket, BIOS support and memory type before planning a processor upgrade. Moving to the recommended i7-10700K/Ryzen 7 5800X class may require a different motherboard. The official table gives no indication that additional RAM is needed when the system already has 16GB.

3. Move the installation to an SSD
If the game is on a hard disk, an SSD is the clearest storage upgrade because Frontier recommends one at minimum and requires one for the recommended tier. Reserve at least 40GB of free capacity for the installation and leave working room for updates. A larger SSD improves capacity planning, but it does not turn a below-spec GPU into a recommended one.
Troubleshooting a PC that meets the requirements
Meeting the table does not eliminate software, thermal or hardware-configuration problems. Frontier’s support checklist addresses the most common causes:
- Verify the game files. Use the file-verification option in the launcher or storefront to repair an incomplete or corrupted installation.
- Update or clean-install the GPU driver. Install the current driver for your NVIDIA, AMD or Intel card. If ordinary updating does not help, use the driver’s clean-install option and restart Windows.
- Update Windows. Install pending Windows updates, restart, and then launch the game again. Confirm that the operating system remains a supported 64-bit edition.
- Disable overlays. Turn off Steam, Xbox, Discord and GeForce overlays temporarily. Re-test after disabling each overlay so you can identify whether one causes instability.
- Check temperatures. Monitor CPU and GPU temperatures while the game is running. Clean blocked vents, confirm that fans spin and address overheating before reducing settings or replacing hardware.
- Check the PCIe slot. In a desktop, make sure the graphics card is installed in the motherboard’s correct full-speed PCIe slot and is fully seated with its power cables attached.
If problems remain after these checks, record the exact error, when it occurs and whether it appears only in a large zoo. Frontier’s published requirements do not provide a zoo-size benchmark, so that information helps separate a general launch problem from a simulation-load problem.
What the requirements do not tell you
- There is no official FPS target in the published minimum or recommended tables.
- There is no stated resolution, graphics preset or ray-tracing setting attached to either tier.
- There is no benchmark showing how many animals, guests or habitats a specified PC can handle.
- The identical 16GB RAM figure in both tiers does not establish that 16GB is ideal for every future update or unusually large save.
Frontier notes that minimum specifications may change during development. Recheck the current storefront and support page before purchasing hardware or reinstalling after a major update.
