Can your PC run Planet Zoo 2? Frontier’s published minimum is an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB of RAM, and a GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB, Radeon RX 5600XT 6 GB, or Intel Arc A750 8 GB. The recommended tier raises the processor to a Core i7-10700K or Ryzen 7 5800X and the graphics card to an RTX 3070 8 GB, RX 6700XT 12 GB, or Arc A770 16 GB. Both tiers require DirectX 12 and 40 GB of free space, with an SSD recommended. Windows 11 is the recommended operating system; Windows 10 is listed at minimum, but ongoing compatibility is not guaranteed.
These are Frontier’s requirements dated 25 September 2026, not frame-rate tests. Minimum specifications may change during development, so check the official support page again before buying components.
What are the Planet Zoo 2 PC requirements?
The table below is the complete PC specification published by Frontier Developments. The Epic Games Store listing reports the same processor, memory, graphics, DirectX, storage and operating-system tiers. Treat the named processors and graphics cards as the official examples; an unlisted part is not automatically equivalent just because its model number looks newer.

Check your current PC before upgrading
Record your exact CPU model, graphics-card model and VRAM, installed memory, Windows edition, DirectX version and free space on the drive where you plan to install the game. A model number copied from a retailer listing is not enough: desktop and laptop versions can have different power limits, and similarly named cards can use different amounts of memory.
Find your processor and installed RAM
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Performance, then CPU. Copy the full processor name shown in the upper-right corner.
- Select Memory and record the total installed amount. Windows reports this in gigabytes; 16 GB is the threshold shown in both Planet Zoo 2 requirement tiers.
For a second check, open Settings > System > About. The processor and installed-RAM entries there should agree with Task Manager. If they differ, use the physical PC or motherboard documentation before ordering parts.
Identify the graphics card and VRAM
- In Task Manager, open Performance > GPU and note the complete model name.
- Record Dedicated GPU memory, not shared system memory. Dedicated memory is the VRAM figure that can be compared with Frontier’s 6 GB, 8 GB, 12 GB and 16 GB examples.
- If more than one GPU is listed, identify which one runs games. A laptop may show an integrated graphics processor and a separate discrete GPU; the integrated chip should not be assumed to meet the listed tier.
You can also press Windows + R, type dxdiag, press Enter, and use the Display tabs to confirm the adapter name and memory. Keep the exact model suffix, because a desktop card, laptop GPU and factory-overclocked variant may not have identical capabilities.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check Windows and DirectX
- Open Settings > System > About and read Windows specifications for the edition and version.
- Press Windows + R, enter
dxdiag, and read the System tab’s DirectX Version line.
DirectX 12 is listed for both tiers. Having the DirectX runtime installed does not make an under-tier graphics card equivalent; it only confirms the software interface requirement.
Check free space on the intended drive
- Open File Explorer > This PC.
- Read the free-space figure for the drive where the game will be installed.
- Confirm that at least 40 GB is free before installation. If the drive is an SSD, it also meets Frontier’s preferred storage type.
The 40 GB figure means available space for the installation. It does not state that you need a separate 40 GB drive, nor does it establish how much additional room future updates will require.
Do I need to upgrade my graphics card for Planet Zoo 2?
The GPU is usually the first comparison to make because Frontier separates the minimum and recommended tiers most sharply there. At minimum, compare your card with an RTX 2060 6 GB, RX 5600XT 6 GB or Arc A750 8 GB. For the recommended tier, compare with an RTX 3070 8 GB, RX 6700XT 12 GB or Arc A770 16 GB.
Do not decide from VRAM capacity alone. Frontier lists different VRAM amounts within each tier, and the published table does not provide a conversion formula between NVIDIA, AMD and Intel models. A card with more VRAM is not proven to match the performance of every card in the recommended row. Use the complete model, its desktop or laptop designation, and the rest of your system when deciding.

When a GPU upgrade is clearly indicated
- Your card is below every minimum example and you want to meet the published baseline.
- Your card has less than 6 GB of dedicated VRAM and is not one of the named alternatives.
- You are targeting the recommended hardware tier and your card is below an RTX 3070, RX 6700XT or Arc A770 class example.
- Your computer uses only integrated graphics. None of the integrated options is named in Frontier’s table.
These checks identify a specification gap, not a guaranteed frame rate after an upgrade. The sources publish no benchmark results, resolution targets, graphics presets or frames-per-second figures.
GPU compatibility checks before purchasing
- Power supply: Check the power supply’s wattage, available PCIe power connectors and age against the exact card manufacturer’s requirements.
- Case clearance: Measure the maximum card length, height and thickness, including room for airflow and adjacent expansion slots.
- Motherboard slot: Confirm that a suitable PCI Express slot is available and that the board firmware and case layout can accommodate the card.
- Display connections: Make sure the replacement card has outputs for your monitor or adapters.
- Laptop limits: Laptop GPUs are normally not replaceable in the same way as desktop cards. Verify the exact laptop model rather than comparing a desktop name to a mobile chip.
How much CPU power does Planet Zoo 2 need?
Frontier’s minimum examples are the Core i7-8700K and Ryzen 5 3600. The recommended examples are the Core i7-10700K and Ryzen 7 5800X. These are specific models, not a statement that every processor with a higher advertised clock speed is equivalent.
Use the exact model from Task Manager when comparing. A processor with a different generation, core layout, power limit or laptop designation cannot be classified from the requirement table alone. If your CPU is below the minimum examples, a platform upgrade may involve the motherboard and memory as well as the processor. Check socket compatibility, firmware support, cooler mounting, power delivery and case airflow before buying.
If your processor meets a listed tier but the graphics card does not, the GPU is the more direct upgrade decision. If both are below minimum, budget for a complete platform assessment rather than purchasing one part on the assumption that it will solve every limitation.
How much RAM and storage does Planet Zoo 2 need?
RAM: 16 GB in both tiers
Both the minimum and recommended tables specify 16 GB of RAM. The published requirements therefore do not establish that the game needs more than 16 GB. If your PC has less than 16 GB, adding compatible memory is the straightforward way to reach the stated figure; someone already at 16 GB has no official requirement-based reason to buy more for this game.
Frontier does not state the DDR generation, memory speed, module count or motherboard limits. Before purchasing, check the motherboard or system manual for the supported memory type, maximum capacity, slot arrangement, laptop-versus-desktop form factor and whether existing modules should be matched as a kit. Mixing capacities or speeds can produce a configuration different from the one your board supports.
Storage: 40 GB free and an SSD preferred
Both tiers require 40 GB of available storage and recommend an SSD. The requirement is free space at installation time, not a claim that the game must occupy an entire dedicated 40 GB drive. Leave additional headroom for the operating system and updates according to your normal storage practice; Frontier does not publish a larger capacity target in this table.

- Turn on the Bright Lights: With the built-in RGB lighting, take your gaming experience to the next level by pressing the MSI LED button to cycle through lighting options. Customize lighting even further with MSI Center software.
If you already have 40 GB free on an SSD, storage meets the published recommendation. If you have an HDD with enough free space, the requirement table does not say that installation is impossible, but the support note still recommends an SSD. Moving the installation to an SSD is a storage-type decision, not a substitute for meeting the CPU or GPU tier.

Windows 10 versus Windows 11
Windows 10 or Windows 11 appears in the minimum row, while Windows 11 is the recommended operating system. Frontier simultaneously states that ongoing Windows 10 compatibility cannot be guaranteed because Microsoft has ended Windows 10 support. Read those statements together: Windows 10 is listed as a minimum option in the dated table, but Windows 11 is the safer choice for a new purchase or upgrade.
Before changing operating systems, check your PC’s Windows 11 eligibility, firmware settings, device drivers, application compatibility and backup status. An operating-system upgrade does not make an under-spec GPU, CPU or RAM configuration meet the game’s hardware requirements.
What the published requirements do—and do not—tell you about performance
The requirement pages establish hardware tiers only. They do not state expected frame rates, image quality, resolution, ray-tracing behavior, simulation size, loading times or whether a particular laptop will hold a target refresh rate. No official benchmark figures are supplied, so it would be misleading to promise that a machine at the minimum tier will deliver a specific experience.
Frontier’s troubleshooting guidance says lowering in-game graphics settings may help with performance problems. That is a corrective suggestion, not a benchmark or a guarantee that a particular preset will run at a particular frame rate. If you are deciding between two otherwise compatible upgrades, choose based on the published tier and your own display and workload needs rather than an invented FPS estimate.
A practical upgrade decision framework
| Your recorded result | What it means | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| CPU, GPU, RAM, DirectX, OS and free space all meet minimum examples; Windows 11 and an SSD are present | Your system matches the dated minimum specification and the preferred OS/storage choices | Recheck Frontier’s live page near purchase and monitor for driver or launch updates |
| CPU and GPU meet recommended examples; 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12 and 40 GB free are available | Your hardware matches the published recommended tier | Confirm case, PSU, drivers and Windows configuration; do not infer a guaranteed frame rate |
| GPU is below the minimum examples | The clearest published hardware gap is graphics | Compare a compatible replacement against the minimum or recommended row, then verify PSU, case and motherboard limits |
| CPU is below the minimum examples | The processor does not match a named baseline | Check whether a CPU-only replacement is possible; a motherboard, cooler or memory change may also be required |
| Less than 16 GB RAM | You are below the only memory quantity listed | Check motherboard or laptop documentation and install compatible memory to reach 16 GB |
| Less than 40 GB free | There is insufficient installation space | Free space or select another drive; an SSD is preferred but capacity alone does not fix other gaps |
| Windows 10 only | The OS appears in minimum listings, but continued compatibility is not guaranteed | Prefer Windows 11 when practical and verify current support information before purchase |
Pre-purchase compatibility checklist
Use this checklist after identifying a gap and before placing an order:
- Write down the exact current CPU and GPU models, including laptop or desktop designation.
- Confirm dedicated GPU VRAM rather than shared system memory.
- Check whether the proposed GPU fits the case and has the required power connectors.
- Verify the power supply’s capacity and condition.
- For a CPU upgrade, confirm motherboard socket, firmware support, cooler compatibility and power delivery.
- For RAM, confirm generation, form factor, supported capacity and slot population from the system or motherboard manual.
- Ensure Windows 11 support if you intend to follow the recommended operating-system tier.
- Reserve at least 40 GB of free space on the installation drive and prefer an SSD.
- Back up important files before changing hardware or the operating system.
- Check Frontier’s live requirements immediately before buying, because the minimum specification is explicitly subject to change during development.

If Planet Zoo 2 will not launch or performs poorly
Start by confirming that the installed hardware still matches the requirement table rather than assuming a driver problem. Install current graphics drivers from the GPU manufacturer, apply pending Windows updates, verify the game files through your storefront and close unnecessary background applications. These general maintenance steps cannot compensate for hardware below the published minimum.
If the game launches but performance is unsatisfactory, Frontier’s support advice is to try lower in-game graphics settings. Change one setting group at a time so you can identify whether the issue improves. The support page does not provide a guaranteed preset or frame-rate target, so record your own symptoms—crashes, stutter, long loading, visual corruption or a settings menu failure—when contacting support.
For crashes, also check available storage, temperature and power connections, and remove unstable overclocks before retesting. On a laptop, select the discrete GPU in the operating-system graphics settings if the system offers that choice and keep the machine connected to its intended power adapter. These checks address common configuration problems; they are not evidence that every system meeting the requirements will behave identically.
Bottom line for an upgrade decision
Compare the GPU and CPU first, because those are the components that change between Frontier’s minimum and recommended tiers. Make sure you have 16 GB of compatible RAM, 40 GB free on a preferably solid-state drive, DirectX 12 and Windows 11 if you want the recommended software baseline. A machine that meets the table is specification-compliant, not guaranteed to deliver a particular frame rate. Revisit Frontier’s dated requirements page before purchasing parts or the game, since the minimum tier may change during development.
