When and where can you play Planet Zoo 2?
Release date
Frontier Developments announced 13 October 2026 as the release date for Planet Zoo 2. Steam displayed that date and an upcoming unlock on launch day. The announcement covers the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S versions; it does not list PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or a cloud-only edition. Frontier’s announcement and the Steam listing are the relevant live references.

The PC version is a Windows release. Frontier’s support information lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 as compatible operating systems, while noting that continued Windows 10 compatibility cannot be guaranteed because Microsoft has ended support for that operating system. If you are buying a new PC for the game, Windows 11 is the safer match for the published recommendations.
#1 Best Overall
- Build a world for wildlife in Planet Zoo. From the developers of Planet Coaster and Zoo Tycoon comes the ultimate zoo sim.
- Construct detailed habitats, manage your zoo, and meet authentic living animals who think, feel and explore the world you create around them.
PlayStation 5
The PlayStation version is announced for PS5. Console players do not need to meet the PC processor, graphics-card, RAM, DirectX, or storage specifications listed below; the console version is built for the PS5 hardware target. Confirm the current product page, download size, account requirements, and edition contents in your region before checkout.
Xbox Series X|S
Xbox Series X|S is also an announced platform. As with PS5, a console owner does not need to compare a desktop or laptop GPU against the PC minimum. The Xbox Wire feature also describes new aquarium and aviary features for the sequel. Xbox Wire’s 28 May 2026 feature quotes Game Director Gareth Hughes: “New for Planet Zoo 2 are aquariums and aviaries, which have allowed us to add fully aquatic and flying species for the first time.”
Does Planet Zoo 2 have multiplayer or co-op?
What the official store descriptions say
Steam lists Planet Zoo 2 as a single-player game. That label means you should not assume that another person can join your zoo as a simultaneous building partner. It is the clearest official description of the core play mode currently available. Steam’s listing is the source for that feature label.

Franchise animal trading
Franchise mode has a networked element: the Epic Games Store description says players can trade animals with other players. Trading is an asynchronous or menu-based interaction around animals, not proof of a shared live map. You can describe Franchise as player-connected animal management, but not as conventional co-op construction. The Epic Games Store description provides this mode detail.
Rank #2
- Build on relationships with the world's most amazing animals through hands on interaction. Create unlimited animals with the Animal Creator
- Hours of play with mini-games, achievements and unlockables- Online connectivity and user generated content
- Create and customize your own zoo
- Experience over 90 different animal species
- Leanr about each animal with the National Geographic animal fact cards
Frontier Workshop sharing
The official Steam and Epic descriptions mention sharing and downloading community creations through Frontier Workshop across platforms. This lets players use designs or other creations made by the community. It still does not establish that two players can enter the same zoo simultaneously, edit the same habitat together, or see each other’s actions in real time.
What is not confirmed
- No official source reviewed confirms synchronous co-op zoo-building.
- No official source reviewed confirms a competitive multiplayer mode.
- The available listings do not establish cross-platform shared sessions for construction.
Therefore, the practical answer is: buy Planet Zoo 2 for its solo modes if you want to build and manage a zoo yourself; choose it for player interaction only if animal trading and community sharing meet your expectations.
Planet Zoo 2 PC requirements
These specifications apply to the Windows PC edition, not PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. The minimum figures come from Frontier’s support information; the recommended figures are listed by Epic. Both specify 16 GB of system memory and 40 GB of storage, while the recommended tier raises the processor and graphics target. Frontier’s support page and the Epic listing should be checked for revisions.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 or Windows 11 | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 | Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics processor | NVIDIA RTX 2060 with 6 GB VRAM; AMD RX 5600XT with 6 GB VRAM; or Intel Arc A750 with 8 GB VRAM | NVIDIA RTX 3070 with 8 GB VRAM; AMD RX 6700XT with 12 GB VRAM; or Intel Arc A770 with 16 GB VRAM |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12 | DirectX 12 |
| Free storage | 40 GB | 40 GB |
| Drive | Not separately stated | SSD recommended by Frontier |
How to interpret the minimum specification
Meeting the minimum means your PC matches the publisher’s stated entry point; it is not a guarantee of a particular frame rate, resolution, or graphics preset. Compare the complete configuration rather than checking only the graphics card. A machine with a suitable GPU but an older processor, insufficient RAM, an unsupported operating system, or less than 40 GB of free space can still fall short of the published requirement.
Rank #3
- Spectacular graphics with Zoo, animal, and plant simulation in real-time 3D
- Embark upon 20 missions around the world
- Experience realistic animal behavior including: individual social lives, birth and aging, aggression, and trainability
- Breed exotic and extinct animal and plant species in special research labs
- Create bridge systems, underwater tunnels, and command jeeps for a real safari adventure
How to interpret the recommended specification
The recommended tier is the better starting point if you plan to run larger zoos, use higher visual settings, or keep the game installed alongside other large applications. It is still a specification target, not an independent benchmark. No third-party performance test is established for these figures.
Storage and Windows caveats
Reserve at least 40 GB of free space before installation; updates may require additional temporary room even when the listed requirement remains 40 GB. Frontier recommends an SSD. Windows 10 is listed, but Frontier cautions that compatibility cannot be guaranteed indefinitely after Microsoft’s end of support, so Windows 11 is the more future-proof choice.
Modes and the sequel’s new zoo features
Career, Franchise, and Sandbox
Store descriptions list three principal modes. Career provides a structured progression, Franchise combines zoo management with animal trading, and Sandbox is the open-ended option for players who want to design without the same progression focus. The listings establish the mode names; detailed scenario counts, campaign length, and economy values should be confirmed on the current product page rather than assumed from the predecessor.
Recommended Free Tools
Aquariums and fully aquatic species
The sequel adds aquariums and fully aquatic species. This expands habitat planning beyond land-based enclosures and is one of the features Frontier highlights in its announcement material.
Rank #4

- Easy to Learn Fun for All Ages - Colorful cards show lions tigers camels leopards and many more animals from forest desert savanna and jungle habitats. Quick to teach and quick to play for kids and adults alike.
Aviaries and flying species
Aviaries and flying species are also new to the sequel. Their inclusion means the animal roster and enclosure design are not limited to terrestrial exhibits.
Wildlife Reserves and conservation
Frontier describes conservation-focused Wildlife Reserves as another addition. This gives the sequel a distinct conservation-management theme alongside traditional zoo construction.
Deluxe Edition content
Frontier says the Deluxe Edition bundles the base game with an upgrade pack containing six additional species and exclusive animal signs. The announcement does not establish a universal price, a permanent preorder bonus, or identical contents in every territory. Edition names, prices, taxes, and promotional extras can differ by storefront and date.
| Edition | Confirmed contents | What to verify locally |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Base game | Current price, platform entitlement, download size, and any time-limited promotion |
| Deluxe | Base game plus an upgrade pack with six additional species and exclusive animal signs | Current price, exact species list, regional availability, and whether the pack is included or sold separately |
Which platform should you choose?
Choose PC when your hardware already matches the target
PC is the most straightforward choice if your system meets the minimum or recommended table and you prefer adjustable graphics settings, a mouse-and-keyboard interface, or the Steam/Epic ecosystem. Before buying, compare your CPU, GPU model and VRAM, RAM, Windows version, DirectX support, and free disk space together.
Best Value
- Get up close and personal with nearly 200 visually stunning animals in 4K Ultra HD and HDR
- New wildlife from South America and Australia
- Create the Zoo of your dreams with the biggest, most detailed environments ever utilizing intuitive powerful controls designed for Zoo Tycoon fans of all ages
- It's Your Zoo - design and manage your ideal zoo from piece-by-piece road construction to the ability to adjust the enclosures and decorate them
Choose PS5 or Xbox Series X|S when you want a console installation
Console editions remove the need to interpret PC component lists. Select the console on which you already play, then check the live store page for the edition and current download requirements. The announced platform support is limited to the current-generation systems listed above.
Choose an edition based on confirmed extras
If you only want the base management game, the Standard Edition is the simpler comparison. The Deluxe Edition is relevant when six extra species and exclusive animal signs justify its additional cost in your territory. Because prices and promotions are not fixed by the available sources, use the final checkout total rather than an old announcement or a price from another region.
Launch-day installation and troubleshooting
Before installing on PC
- Update Windows, your graphics driver, and the store client you will use.
- Confirm that the entire PC configuration meets the minimum table, not just the GPU.
- Free at least 40 GB on the target drive and preferably install to an SSD, as Frontier recommends.
- Review the live store listing for the edition, release status, and any additional download information.
If the PC version crashes or performs poorly
Start with Frontier’s launch, crashing, and performance support article rather than assuming that a third-party utility is endorsed or guaranteed to fix a game-specific problem. Compare your system against the published requirements, verify available storage, and check whether your Windows version and drivers are current. If the problem remains, use Frontier’s support workflow and provide the requested system and error details. Frontier’s troubleshooting guidance is the authoritative place for updated fixes.
If you expected co-op
Recheck the mode description before requesting a refund or changing platforms. Animal trading in Franchise and downloading Workshop creations are different from inviting another player to build in the same zoo. The official listings currently support the former features but do not confirm the latter.
Quick Recap
What to verify immediately before purchase
- That the store still lists 13 October 2026 as the release or availability date in your territory.
- That your chosen platform is PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or a Windows PC meeting the complete specification.
- That the edition includes the content you want, especially the Deluxe upgrade pack.
- That the multiplayer behavior matches your expectation: solo construction with trading and community sharing, rather than confirmed live co-op.
- That the current price, taxes, download size, and any promotional terms are shown by your own storefront.
