Pixelmon commands come from several different sources, so the safest workflow is to identify your installed Pixelmon and Minecraft versions, start with the official Pixelmon command list, and then grant only the permission node each staff or player role needs. Commands that affect another player usually require a separate administrative node, while sidemods such as Trainer Commands, Even More Pixelmon Commands (EMPC), and Pixelmon Extras have their own syntax and permissions.
This cheat sheet organizes the base commands, targeting rules, permission setup, sidemod differences, and recovery precautions so you can run a server without giving every helper operator status.
What counts as a Pixelmon command?
The official Pixelmon Wiki Commands page describes its scope plainly: “This is a list of commands added by Pixelmon.” That list is the canonical starting point for commands built into Pixelmon itself. Minecraft commands, permissions supplied by your server platform, and commands from optional sidemods are separate layers.
Command availability and arguments can change between Pixelmon and Minecraft releases. Before copying a command into a script, rank file, command block, or staff guide, check the command list shipped for the exact versions installed on your server. A command shown in an online post may belong to a sidemod or an older release even when its name looks familiar.

Quick setup: give access without giving OP
- Record the versions. Note the Minecraft version, Pixelmon version, server software (for example, a standard Forge or a hybrid implementation), and every installed Pixelmon sidemod.
- Test the command as console and as a normal player. Some commands are intentionally player-only; others accept a target only when an administrator node is present.
- Grant the narrow node. Add only the permission required for the command to the relevant group in your permissions plugin. Do not grant a broad wildcard merely to make one command work.
- Test another-player behavior separately. A player may be allowed to heal or edit their own party but still be denied the version of the command that targets someone else.
- Negate dangerous commands for ordinary ranks. Permissions plugins can explicitly deny a node. Use that for reset, kill, take, or other irreversible operations, even if a parent group might otherwise inherit a broad permission.
Hybrid server software can remap Pixelmon’s permission prefix. If a documented node beginning with pixelmon has no effect on a hybrid setup, test the corresponding minecraft prefix as a compatibility check. This is not a universal replacement: keep the node that your installed software actually recognizes.

Do not assume that a command which works on your own party can target someone else. The separate admin or other node is an intentional safety boundary. If you only want helpers to restore a player’s own party, grant the base command and withhold the targeting node.

Money and reward commands can be economically destructive without deleting a Pokémon. Audit them like item-spawn commands and keep them out of general player ranks unless your server design deliberately allows self-service rewards.

Permission design for common roles
Build groups around tasks rather than around a single “Pixelmon admin” role. A practical separation looks like this:
- Player help: self-service information commands such as the Pokédex, EV, research, spawning information, and wiki lookup, if your server permits them.
- Support staff: the base healing node for approved use, but not
pixelmon.command.admin.healotherunless they must heal someone else. - Event staff: spawning and raid nodes only during controlled events, with access removed afterward when possible.
- Moderators: battle intervention and freeze controls, with targeting permissions documented and logged.
- Senior administrators: destructive commands such as reset, kill, take, and forceful edits, ideally tested first on a backup or disposable world.
Keep a change log for permission edits. When a command fails, record the exact sender, target, arguments, server software, and error message before widening access. A failed node is often a prefix or version mismatch, not proof that the user needs OP.

Trainer Commands: event-driven NPC and statue actions
Trainer Commands is a server-side sidemod, not part of the base Pixelmon command set. It lets NPCs and statues execute Pixelmon or Minecraft commands when players interact with them or when battle events occur.
Configure an action
Use /tedit add <win|loss|battle_start|forfeit|interact> <command> [flag] to add an action. The event is one of win, loss, battle_start, forfeit, or interact. Use /tedit remove to remove the first matching action, /tedit list to display configured lists, and /tedit reload to reload configuration.

The permission node for editing is trainercommands.command.tedit. Because execution identity changes what a command can affect, review every action before allowing staff to edit it. A console action can have considerably more authority than the same text executed by a player.
Even More Pixelmon Commands (EMPC)
Even More Pixelmon Commands is a configurable sidemod. Its documentation warns that arguments can be hidden or required depending on permissions and configuration. Do not paste an EMPC command into a base Pixelmon guide or assume its argument order matches a similarly named command from another mod.

After changing EMPC configuration, run /empc reload. If a command is missing, shows fewer arguments than expected, or rejects a previously valid form, inspect the installed EMPC version and configuration first, then check the permission assigned to the sender.

Pixelmon Extras commands and permissions
Pixelmon Extras is another optional sidemod with its own command namespace and permissions. Its documented command set includes:
/pokeevolve/pokegivetype/pokerandom/pokereset/pokerestart/pokeretrieve/pokesee/pokesell/pokespawncoords/poketake/poketest/redeemfossil/starter/tms/tradesim/wiki/xpmod
Pixelmon Extras uses pixelextras.command.* permissions rather than the base Pixelmon prefix. It also documents bypass nodes for operations such as forceful trade simulation or selling protected Pokémon. Grant those bypasses only to staff who understand the consequences. Several names overlap with base Pixelmon commands, including /pokereset, /pokeretrieve, /pokesee, /pokesell, /poketake, /redeemfossil, /starter, /tms, /tradesim, and /wiki; determine which mod owns the command on your server before assigning a node.
Destructive-command safeguards
Commands that reset, kill, take, restart, or force edits can permanently change a player’s collection or the server economy. Treat /pokereset, /pokekill, /poketake, and the destructive variants supplied by sidemods as staff-only operations.

- Require a ticket or reason before using them.
- Confirm the exact player, Pokémon, party slot, and intended result aloud or in staff chat.
- Take a backup before bulk corrections or migration work.
- Prefer a reversible command or manual correction when one exists.
- Record the command, executor, timestamp, and outcome.
Never test destructive syntax on a live player’s only copy. Use a test account and a world backup, especially when a sidemod adds force or bypass behavior.
Troubleshooting a command that does not work
“Unknown command”
Confirm that the relevant mod is installed on the server, not merely in a client pack. Check spelling, namespace collisions, and the installed version. A command listed by Pixelmon Extras will not exist on a server running only base Pixelmon.
“You do not have permission”
Verify the exact node, group inheritance, and whether the command is self-targeted or other-player targeted. For example, pixelmon.command.pokeheal does not by itself establish permission to heal another player; that action uses pixelmon.command.admin.healother. On hybrid software, test the documented prefix-remapping compatibility check rather than granting OP.
The syntax or arguments are different
Check the version-specific help output and sidemod configuration. EMPC can hide or require arguments based on configuration and permissions. Trainer Commands also changes execution behavior through its flags.
The command works from console but not in chat
Inspect whether the command requires a player context, a selected Pokémon, a location, or a target that console cannot provide. Conversely, commands using the -c execution flag in Trainer Commands deliberately run with console authority and may not behave like player-issued commands.
