The feature is Samsung Secure Folder. In an August 20, 2026 Android Police article, writer Parth Shah said its everyday convenience was the reason he returned to a Galaxy after using a Pixel. That is one user’s account, not the result of an independent comparison test. For Pixel owners weighing a switch, the key question is whether Secure Folder’s reported workflow suits them better than Google’s Private Space.
What made Secure Folder compelling to one Pixel user
Shah described a workflow built around Samsung’s own apps: he could select media in Samsung Gallery and move it into Secure Folder, with a similar flow in My Files. The article also says he could add apps already installed on his phone and customize the folder’s name and icon. These are Shah’s reported observations; they should not be treated as verified steps for every Galaxy model or One UI version.
That convenience is the core of the switching argument. If you often want to put personal files and apps behind a separate lock, having those actions fit into the apps you already use may matter more than a feature checklist. Shah named the Galaxy S25 Ultra as the phone he returned to, but his account does not show that this model is required for Secure Folder or that it is the best current Galaxy to buy.

How Pixel Private Space compares
Pixel Private Space is a genuine counterpart, not an absence of a privacy feature. Google describes it as a separate space and profile that can be locked, hidden while locked, and used for separate app instances. You can also copy or move files into it from the main profile.

| Task | Samsung Secure Folder, as described by Shah | Google Pixel Private Space, per Google |
|---|---|---|
| Put files in the private area | Shah reports selecting media in Samsung Gallery and moving it into Secure Folder; he says My Files offers a similar flow. This is his account, not independently verified across devices. Android Police, August 20, 2026. | Google documents both copying and moving files. Moving removes the original from its main-profile location; copying leaves it there. Google Android Help. |
| Use an app inside | Shah says he can add apps already installed on his phone. The account does not establish the behavior on every model or software version. Android Police, August 20, 2026. | Apps installed in Private Space are new instances. Google says the existing app is not copied or modified, and its data cannot be moved from the main space. Google Android Help. |
| Hide the space | Shah says he values Samsung’s visibility controls; the article does not establish their details across devices. Android Police, August 20, 2026. | Google documents a setting to hide the Private Space container while it is locked. Google also says its existence may still be discoverable through computer access, device logs, or apps. Google Android Help. |
| Check availability | Not established by the cited account for all Galaxy models or One UI versions. | Requires Android 15 or later and supporting hardware; Google lists some managed, supervised, or multi-user configurations where it is unavailable. Google Android Help. |
Which one fits your workflow?
Choose based on how you handle files
Both features can hold files apart from the everyday space. Google explicitly documents a choice between copying and moving: copying keeps the main-profile original, while moving deletes that original from its former location and stores it in Private Space. Shah’s description of Secure Folder emphasizes moving media from Samsung Gallery and My Files, but it does not provide a device-wide, independently checked comparison of the number of steps.
Account for app data, not just app icons
Google’s separate-instance approach has an important consequence: installing an app in Private Space does not bring over its main-space app data. If you rely on data already held by an app, that separation may affect how you use the private instance. Shah’s article says Secure Folder can add an app already installed on the phone, but it does not establish how app data behaves in every situation, so do not assume that the existing app session or data will carry over without checking your Galaxy’s settings and the app itself.

Decide what “hidden” needs to mean
Locking or hiding a private space is not the same as making its existence impossible to detect. Google specifically notes possible discovery of Private Space through computer access, device logs, or apps. Shah’s preference for Samsung visibility controls is personal experience, and the cited article does not support a universal security ranking between the two implementations.

Check compatibility before changing phones
Google says Private Space requires Android 15 or later and supporting hardware, and may be unavailable in managed or supervised setups and some multi-user configurations. Confirm the feature is available on your specific Pixel rather than assuming every Pixel configuration supports it. For Secure Folder, the cited account does not establish model or One UI requirements; verify support and the precise Gallery, My Files, and app behavior on the Galaxy you are considering. The evidence here does not establish that one phone family is categorically more secure.

Should Secure Folder be your reason to switch?
Secure Folder is a plausible deciding feature if you want the integrated file-and-app workflow Shah describes and you have confirmed it works as needed on your prospective Galaxy. It is not, by itself, proof that a Galaxy is better for every Pixel owner: Google’s Private Space can also lock and hide a separate area, create separate app instances, and accept copied or moved files. Compare the actual tasks you need to do—especially whether you need an original file retained and whether app data must be separate—before making a phone decision.
