Replace a Pixel battery when Google’s estimated remaining capacity falls below 80%, the phone reaches its model’s rated charge-cycle point, or everyday runtime has become inadequate. Google rates Pixel 3 through Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold batteries for about 800 full cycles and Pixel 8a and later for about 1,000 cycles, with capacity up to 80% when charged as recommended. Those figures are guidance, not a guaranteed failure date.
There is no universal Pixel battery-replacement price. Google calculates an estimate from the phone’s IMEI, warranty status, reported issue, damage found, repair partner and location. Use the Google Store repair flow to see the device-specific amount before submitting a mail-in order; a walk-in provider inspects the phone and quotes the repair. Warranty coverage is also issue-specific, so an active warranty does not automatically make every battery job free.
When should you replace a Pixel battery?
Google identifies three practical triggers: battery health below 80% of its original estimated capacity, reaching the rated charge-cycle count for the model, or noticeably shorter runtime. Replacing an aged battery can restore runtime, improve performance in cold or warm ambient temperatures and extend the phone’s useful life. Lithium-ion batteries are consumable parts; Google Pixel Phone Help says they are not intended to last indefinitely.
Use the 80% figure as a decision guide
On Pixel models that report battery health, Google labels a battery below 80% remaining capacity as “Reduced” and recommends considering replacement. The percentage is an estimate relative to the battery when new, not a promise that the phone will fail immediately at 79%.

Understand the rated cycle counts
Google publishes these longevity ratings (the support page accessed for this guidance does not display a publication year):

A cycle is cumulative use equivalent to a full discharge and recharge. Using 50% of the battery and recharging it adds about 0.5 cycle; two such sessions add one cycle. Therefore, the number of days since purchase is not a reliable substitute for cycle count. Heat, charging habits, workload and other conditions can make an individual battery age faster or slower than the rating.
Check what your model actually reports
On Pixel 8a and later, open Settings → About phone → Battery information to see the cycle count. Battery health status is an estimated percentage compared with a new battery. Google says Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro do not display battery-health status. Do not treat the absence of that menu on one of those models as evidence that the battery is healthy or defective; use runtime, shutdowns and a professional diagnostic instead.

- Replace sooner if the phone shuts down unexpectedly, loses a large percentage while idle, becomes unusually hot during ordinary use, or cannot last through your normal day.
- Stop using the phone and arrange service promptly if the back cover is lifting, the battery is swollen, there is a chemical smell or the device becomes dangerously hot. Do not puncture, compress or continue charging a visibly damaged battery.
How much does Pixel battery replacement cost?
Google does not publish one price that applies to every Pixel, country or repair center. Its repair-cost guidance says the amount depends on warranty status, the type of issue or damage, the repair partner and the location. A quote for one model in one country should not be presented as the price for all Pixel owners.

Get a device-specific estimate
- Open the Google Store repair flow and sign in when prompted.
- Enter the phone’s IMEI, then select the battery or other relevant issue.
- Review the estimate shown for your device and location.
- For mail-in service, check the amount before submitting the repair order. For walk-in service, take the phone to the listed provider; the provider inspects it and gives the repair cost and estimated timing.
The online figure is an estimate based on the information supplied. Google warns that inspection can reveal additional damage and raise the final amount. For mail-in repairs, Google contacts you about added items and requires acceptance of updated charges before proceeding. Walk-in providers likewise need your approval for extra work.

Taxes, shipping, local labor practices and exchange rates can also affect what you pay. Recheck the estimate immediately before authorizing service because availability and pricing change.
Does a warranty cover Pixel battery replacement?
Warranty coverage is determined for the specific device and reported problem. Google says in-warranty devices and damage covered by the applicable warranty have no repair charge. That does not mean every battery replacement is free while a warranty is active: normal consumable wear and unrelated damage may be excluded under the terms that apply in your jurisdiction.

Damage that can create a charge
Google lists cracked screens, cosmetic damage, liquid damage and some internal damage among types that may not be covered. A battery problem combined with one of these conditions can change the estimate or make the repair ineligible for no-charge warranty service.

Check eligibility instead of assuming it
- Find the IMEI in Settings → About phone, on the original packaging or in your Google account’s device list.
- Open Your Devices or Google’s repair center and select the phone.
- Enter the IMEI and describe the battery issue accurately.
- Read the coverage decision and any exclusions shown for that device and location.
Unauthorized modifications or repairs, counterfeit parts, accidents, misuse and liquid exposure can affect eligibility. Exact terms depend on the device warranty and local law. Google’s eligibility guidance does not remove statutory consumer rights, so keep proof of purchase and consult the applicable consumer authority if a decision conflicts with mandatory local protections.
Which repair route is right for you?
Google’s available routes depend on country, model and warranty status. The repair flow is the authoritative way to see whether mail-in service, walk-in service or another option is offered for your phone.

Prepare a phone for professional service
- Back up photos, messages, authenticator data and other important content.
- Remove the SIM card.
- Turn on Repair Mode when the model and software offer it, following Google’s on-screen instructions.
- If Repair Mode is unavailable, follow Google’s instructions to perform a factory reset after confirming your backup.
- Record the IMEI and photograph the phone’s condition before handing it over.
A reset protects personal data but erases locally stored content, so do not begin one until you have verified that the backup can be restored.

What is involved in a DIY battery replacement?
Google permits self-repair but recommends it only for people with relevant technical experience. A battery is not a simple plug-in accessory: opening the phone, separating adhesive, disconnecting the cell and resealing the device can damage the display, cables, frame or battery.

Pixel 8 example
The iFixit Pixel 8 listing identifies a genuine Google battery, model GS35E, and compatible Pixel 8 model codes. Its guide rates the replacement as difficult and estimates one to two hours. The job also requires replacement screen adhesive. This is an example for Pixel 8, not proof that the same battery fits another Pixel; verify the exact model code before ordering any part. The guide was last updated May 22, 2026 and states that it is not endorsed by Google.
DIY checklist
- Confirm the exact Pixel model and regional model code.
- Use a genuine, model-compatible battery and new screen adhesive.
- Have the opening, heating and fastening tools specified by the model’s guide.
- Work on a clean, nonflammable surface with the phone powered down.
- Plan for data backup and for the possibility that the phone will be unusable if a component is damaged.
Do not buy a part solely because it is advertised for “Pixel.” Capacity, connectors, battery-management electronics and adhesive fit vary by model. Product price and stock are volatile, so a listing observed at one time is not a stable service-cost benchmark.

The estimate is higher than expected
Check whether the quote includes a non-covered cracked screen, liquid indicator, frame damage or another issue. Google’s inspection can add chargeable work. You may decline the revised quote, but the provider’s return or shipping terms determine what happens next.
No walk-in option appears
Walk-in availability is limited by country, model and partner capacity. Use the mail-in option shown for your location or check again through the repair flow with the correct IMEI; do not assume a center that services another Pixel model can handle yours.

The phone still drains quickly after replacement
Give the system time to finish updates and indexing, then check battery usage by app. If drain remains abnormal, report it to the repair provider while the service record is available. A new cell cannot fix a faulty charger, damaged charging port, runaway app or motherboard problem.
The battery health menu is missing
That is expected on Pixel 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8 and 8 Pro according to Google. Use the model’s runtime and behavior, not an unofficial percentage app, as the primary decision evidence.
A practical decision framework
- Check symptoms. If the phone is swollen, leaking or dangerously hot, stop charging and seek professional handling rather than attempting DIY.
- Check the model data. On Pixel 8a and later, review cycle count at Settings → About phone → Battery information. On unsupported models, evaluate runtime and shutdown behavior.
- Check coverage. Enter the IMEI and issue in Google’s repair flow; do not infer free service from the existence of a warranty alone.
- Compare routes. Weigh the device-specific professional estimate against the genuine part, adhesive and tools, your skill level, data risk and local availability.
- Authorize with the full risk visible. Back up data, understand potential additional charges and approve only the work you want performed.
Bottom line for Pixel owners
Battery replacement is sensible below 80% estimated capacity, around the model’s rated cycle count, or whenever degraded runtime interferes with normal use. Pixel 3 through Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold are rated at about 800 cycles; Pixel 8a and later at about 1,000, both to up to 80% capacity under recommended charging conditions. Those are endurance ratings, not deadlines.
For cost and warranty, use the IMEI-based Google repair estimate and read the issue-specific coverage decision. A professional route reduces technical risk; DIY can be viable for an experienced repairer using the exact genuine part and adhesive, but the Pixel 8 example is rated difficult and takes an estimated one to two hours. Choose the option that fits the phone’s condition, your location and your ability to protect your data and device.
