The Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold is a more refined book-style foldable, not an obvious generational leap. Its 8-inch inner screen, Google’s foldable software and IP68 rating may make it a compelling fit if those features are your priorities. But its launch price, weight, camera compromises and software-scaling quirks make it a harder sell for buyers who want the lightest hardware, the best Pixel cameras or a clear reason to upgrade.
What’s new, and what kind of phone is it?
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold pairs a 6.5-inch cover display with an 8-inch inner foldable screen. Google lists its custom Tensor G6 chip and 16GB of RAM, and says the phone is designed for Gemini Intelligence. That last point is manufacturer language, not an independent performance finding.
The main change reviewers describe is refinement rather than reinvention. TechRadar views the collection of changes as making a more elegant, lighter multipurpose device. WIRED, by contrast, calls the update iterative and questions whether the hardware justifies its price. If you already own the previous generation, that disagreement matters: the case for changing phones rests on whether the refinements solve a problem you actually have.

The large inner display is the clearest reason to choose this phone over a conventional handset. Tom’s Guide praises its detail, color and outdoor visibility. The cover screen gives you a more conventional way to use the phone while folded, but the Fold’s defining benefit is the extra room when you open it.
#1 Best Overall
- Designed for Gemini Intelligence, brighter screens, and a more durable design, the new Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold delivers eye-opening performance and makes multitasking effortless[1,2,3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[4]
- As stunning as it is strong: Pixel 11 Pro Fold’s ultra-durable composite back is lighter, stronger, and designed to be nearly impossible to crack[5,6]; and with scratch-resistant glass and an all-new hinge, it’s 3x stronger[5]
- Unfold the fun: Drift away into immersive entertainment on the brighter-than-ever 8-inch screen[2]; take it into tabletop mode for hands-free streaming of your favorite content
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
That room does not guarantee that every app will use it well. Tom’s Guide flags app-scaling quirks, a practical drawback for anyone expecting every app to adapt cleanly to the larger canvas. It also notes that the cover display lacks a dedicated StandBy mode for tabletop or tent use. Consider how you use your apps and whether you expect to prop the phone up before treating the inner screen as an unqualified productivity advantage.
Is the camera as good as the Pixel 11 Pro or Pro XL?
No. Android Central reports that the Fold’s main camera has less-than-best-in-class dynamic range and captures softer fine detail than the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL. Its reviewer also compared it with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Motorola Razr Fold and Honor Magic V6; those are reviewer observations, not lab results.

That makes the camera a meaningful trade-off if you are choosing between the Fold and a conventional Pixel Pro. The Fold gives you a large opening display, but the available review evidence does not support assuming that it matches the Pro or Pro XL camera experience.
How does it compare with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8?
WIRED’s 2026 review reports that the Pixel is heavier and thicker than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8, while reporting a higher dust-and-water resistance rating for Google’s phone. These are specific comparisons reported by that reviewer, not a claim that one device is better for every buyer.

| Comparison | Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold | Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | 239g, as reported by WIRED (2026) | 201g, as reported by WIRED (2026) |
| Thickness | 10.1mm, as reported by WIRED (2026) | 9.7mm, as reported by WIRED (2026) |
| Dust-and-water rating | IP68, as reported by WIRED (2026) | IP48, as reported by WIRED (2026) |
The trade-off is straightforward: the Pixel’s reported IP68 rating is higher, while the Samsung is lighter and thinner in WIRED’s comparison. The available information does not establish a comparable price or enough consistent camera and software measurements to make a complete spec-by-spec verdict. TechRadar’s separate comparison refers to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and describes the Pixel as cheaper in that context; do not treat that as a like-for-like price comparison with the Galaxy Z Fold8 without checking the models and current prices.
What do durability and charging claims mean in practice?
Google says the phone is designed to comply with IP68 under IEC 60529 when it leaves the factory. The company also cautions that it is not water- or dust-proof, and that resistance can diminish through wear, repair, disassembly or damage. An IP rating is not a promise that a foldable can be submerged or exposed to dust without risk.
Google specifies 30W wired charging and up to 25W Qi2.2 wireless charging. It also claims more than 24 hours of battery life. That duration is Google’s claim; the available evidence does not provide a controlled, reproducible endurance test. Tom’s Guide describes battery improvement as limited, while WIRED highlights Qi2 25W charging as a standout. Those assessments suggest charging convenience may be more persuasive than a proven leap in endurance.

Is $1,899 a reasonable price?
Tom’s Guide reported a US launch price of $1,899 for the 256GB base version, $100 above the previous generation’s launch price. That is launch context from 2026, not a statement of today’s retail price; check the current listing and availability before buying.
At that launch price, the phone is easiest to justify if the book-style design and Google’s foldable software are central to how you use a phone. WIRED’s 7/10 review questions whether the hardware earns its price; TechRadar is more positive about the refinements and rates software and performance more strongly than the cameras. Tom’s Guide’s concerns about app scaling and limited battery improvement add practical reasons to compare carefully rather than treating the price as automatically justified.
Should you upgrade?
Consider it if you want a Google foldable
- You specifically want an 8-inch inner screen in a book-style phone.
- You value Google’s foldable software enough to accept that some apps may not scale cleanly.
- The reported IP68 rating and Qi2.2 wireless charging are meaningful advantages for your priorities.
Look elsewhere or wait if your priorities differ
- You want lighter, thinner hardware: WIRED’s comparison reports the Galaxy Z Fold8 at 201g and 9.7mm, versus 239g and 10.1mm for the Pixel.
- You want the strongest Pixel camera experience: Android Central reports softer fine detail on the Fold than on the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL.
- You expect a major upgrade over the previous generation or need independently established battery gains: reviewers disagree on the value of the refinements, and Google’s battery figure is a manufacturer claim.
For an owner of the previous Fold, the $100 launch-price increase and iterative nature of the update make upgrading a personal-use decision, not an automatic one. For someone moving from a conventional phone, the decisive question is whether the large inner display and foldable experience are worth the compromises in weight, camera detail and app behavior.
