PITAKA’s Classic aramid cases keep the Galaxy Z8 foldables light and add support for selected magnetic accessories, but they leave important areas exposed. On the Galaxy Z Fold8, the case covers the camera-side back only: it has no front-screen frame, and the hinge remains uncovered. Notebookcheck found the cases suitable for scratch protection and light impacts, not for cushioning a serious fall. They make the most sense if minimal bulk matters more to you than full-device coverage.
What does the PITAKA Galaxy Z8 case review find?
Notebookcheck reviewed three model-specific PITAKA Classic cases: one each for the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The review, by Daniel Schmidt, was published on 30 August 2026. It describes carefully made, precisely fitted shells with accurate cutouts and a discreet magnet ring. Its main reservation is the tradeoff behind the slim construction: limited coverage and little cushioning in a hard fall.
Notebookcheck says its review sample was supplied free by the manufacturer. It also says the manufacturer had no third-party influence, received no advance copy, and had no publication requirement. These cases are shaped for different phones. Check the exact model name before ordering; a Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, and Flip8 case should not be treated as interchangeable.

These figures are Notebookcheck’s measurements of the cases it reviewed in 2026. They are not manufacturer specifications. For the Fold8, PITAKA’s current product page lists 17.6 g (±1 g) and 1.05 mm (±0.1 mm) for the selected Edge case. Those are the manufacturer’s stated figures, so they are best kept distinct from Notebookcheck’s measurements rather than combined into a single value. What protection do you get—and what stays exposed?
Fold8 front screen and hinge
The Fold8 case is a rear shell, not a full wraparound case. PITAKA warns that its Galaxy Z Fold7/Fold8 cases cover only the camera-side back and do not include a screen cover. The review likewise notes that the Fold8 front frame is not included. If you want the front display covered, you will need to consider a separate screen protector; the case itself does not provide that protection.

The hinge is also left uncovered on the Fold models. The shell stops before it, and Notebookcheck says the folding mechanism works without interference in both open and closed positions. That unobstructed movement is a fit observation, not protection for the hinge against scratches or impact.

Notebookcheck reports a slightly raised edge on the Fold8 case’s camera-side rear. PITAKA’s FAQ says individual circular lens protectors are compatible, but full lens caps are not. Check that any lens accessory matches the case layout before buying.

The reviewer’s protection assessment is modest: the thin walls can help with scratches and light impacts, but offer little cushioning if the phone lands hard on concrete. As Schmidt puts it, “Due to their design, the cases offer only minimal drop protection.” The review does not establish a certified drop rating or an independently measured durability result. If a serious fall is a key concern, the slim profile is a compromise rather than a substitute for a thicker protective case.
Do magnetic accessories work with the PITAKA cases?
Notebookcheck says the tested magnet structure supports MagSafe- and PixelSnap-compatible accessories. That does not mean every magnetic accessory will fit or work equally well. PITAKA’s FAQ lists the MagEZ Grip and MagEZ Car Mount Pro 2 Qi2 as compatible, while warning that magnetic power banks may charge but can have weaker attraction or partly obstruct the camera. It lists the Magnetic Woven Wallet as incompatible.

So treat magnetic support as accessory-specific: check PITAKA’s current compatibility information for the exact accessory, and consider the camera position when using a power bank. The manufacturer’s product FAQ is the source for its named accessory compatibility notes.

Is the PITAKA Edge worth the premium?
The clearest case for the Fold8 Edge is its low weight and slim profile. PITAKA lists the Fold8 Edge at $69.99 on its product page accessed in 2026. Notebookcheck’s review quoted a suggested retail price of around €80, and showed a $52.49 Amazon listing for a Fold8 Ultra case when accessed. These are source-specific historical price signals, not guaranteed current prices; availability and price can change, and the Amazon listing was for the Ultra variant rather than the Fold8.

PITAKA’s Fold8 collection also contrasts Edge, positioned as a thin, light daily-protection option, with Cairn, presented as a more protective design. Its table lists approximate Edge figures of 25 g (±4 g) and 1.2 mm (±0.2 mm), and Cairn figures of 44 g (±1 g) and 1.9 mm (±0.2 mm). PITAKA explicitly says those figures came from lab testing of an S26 Ultra case and may vary by model; they are not Fold8 measurements or independent proof of drop performance. For buyers who prioritize coverage, note that PITAKA announced a wider modular protection system for the Fold8, Fold8 Ultra, and Flip8 on 23 July 2026, describing back-case, hinge, front-case, and Aaron Button elements. That announcement is a company statement, not independent testing or confirmation that every component is currently available. PITAKA’s product FAQ says front-cover and hinge-protective Fold8 cases may be considered or released in the future; treat those as manufacturer plans, not current options.
