The Motorola Edge 70 is the better fit if a thin, light body, wireless charging and a higher-resolution ultrawide camera matter most. Choose the OnePlus Nord 5 if you want a larger, faster-refreshing screen and a higher-tier processor on paper, especially for gaming. There is no matched test proving one is faster or lasts longer in every situation, and battery capacity and prices vary by market.

Which phone is better for gaming?
The Nord 5 is the stronger specification-led choice for gaming: its Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 sits above the Edge 70’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 in processor tier, and its 144Hz display is larger than the Edge’s 120Hz panel. That makes the Nord the more promising pick for demanding games and a more expansive view, but it does not prove higher frame rates or better sustained performance in every game.

TechRadar recorded a Geekbench multi-core average of 5,147 over three tests on the 12GB/512GB Nord 5 it reviewed. That is a result for that phone, not a head-to-head comparison with the Edge 70. No matched lab performance test is established here, so treat the chipset difference as an informed buying indicator rather than a benchmark verdict. TechRadar’s Nord 5 review

Which is more comfortable to carry?
The Edge 70 is substantially thinner and lighter on the published figures: 5.99mm and 159g, versus the Nord 5’s 8.1mm and 211g. The 52g difference and slimmer profile are likely to matter if you prefer a phone that feels less bulky in a pocket or hand. Comfort is personal, but this is the clearest physical distinction between the two. Motorola UK specifications · TechRadar’s Nord 5 review
How do their screens and cameras compare?
Screen size and refresh rate
The Nord 5 gives you a 6.83-inch display with a stated 144Hz refresh rate; the Edge 70 has a 6.67-inch panel rated up to 120Hz. The Nord’s screen is larger and has the higher listed refresh rate, which can suit gaming and people who want more screen area. The Edge is still a high-refresh display, and the better size depends on whether you value viewing space or a more compact phone.

Camera hardware
Both phones list a 50MP main rear camera and a 50MP front camera in the cited specifications. The Edge 70’s ultrawide is 50MP, has a 120-degree field of view and autofocus, with macro capability; the Nord 5 review lists an 8MP ultrawide. That gives the Edge more capable ultrawide hardware on paper, but megapixel count alone cannot establish which phone takes better photos. No direct camera comparison is established. What do battery capacity and charging tell you?
Capacity figures need their market labels. Motorola’s UK specification lists the Edge 70 at 4,800mAh typical and 4,655mAh rated. TechRadar identifies the UK Nord 5 it reviewed as 5,200mAh, while reporting 6,800mAh variants in India and Australia. A comparison article gives conflicting capacities, so those figures should not be treated as universal specifications. Capacity alone also does not predict real-world endurance, and no direct battery-life test between these two phones is established.

Motorola advertises up to 50 hours for the Edge 70, qualifying that as an approximate claim under optimal conditions with actual results varying. It is a manufacturer claim, not a comparative test. For charging, the Nord 5 has the higher stated wired rate at 80W; the Edge 70 supports up to 68W wired and adds 15W wireless charging. Motorola says the 68W TurboPower charger is sold separately, so check the box contents and local availability if you want that maximum wired rate. Motorola lists IP68 and IP69 ratings and MIL-STD 810H for the Edge 70; the comparison article reports IP65 for the Nord 5. These are stated ratings, not a promise that either phone is immune to damage. They indicate a higher published ingress-protection rating for the Edge 70, but do not make it damage-proof. Is the Edge 70 worth more than the Nord 5?
The available launch prices do not settle that question. Motorola announced a €799 starting price in select European and Middle Eastern markets, while TechRadar reported UK Nord 5 launch prices of £399 for 8GB/256GB and £499 for 12GB/512GB in 2025. These are different currencies, configurations and market contexts, and neither figure tells you today’s local price. Compare current offers for the same storage tier in your country before deciding whether the Edge’s slim build, wireless charging and camera hardware justify any price difference. Which one should you buy?
- Choose the Motorola Edge 70 if a very thin, light phone is your priority, or if you want wireless charging, higher stated ingress-protection ratings and a higher-resolution ultrawide camera.
- Choose the OnePlus Nord 5 if gaming-oriented hardware, a larger 144Hz display or a lower documented UK launch price matters more than slimness and wireless charging.
Neither choice can be ranked on long-term software support from the available information: current official update commitments for both exact regional models are not established. Verify the model’s local specifications, current price and included charger before placing an order.
