An AI label on a Photoshop or Premiere export does not necessarily mean the entire image or video was generated from scratch. Platforms can use Content Credentials and other provenance signals to identify how content was made, but their exact rules for labeling an individual post are not public. You can check whether AI tools or credentials were part of your workflow; there is no verified setting that guarantees Instagram or TikTok will omit a label.
Why an Adobe export can receive an AI label
Content Credentials are provenance metadata: they can record information about a creator and how content was produced, including whether AI generation or editing tools were used. That record can describe a step in the workflow without claiming that every pixel or frame in the finished export is synthetic. Adobe’s Content Credentials overview explains the information credentials can carry and notes that Adobe automatically applies them to content made with Firefly and its APIs.
TikTok says it can recognize Content Credentials and use them to help label AI-generated uploads. It announced that C2PA credentials could be used to automatically label some AI-generated content uploaded from other platforms, with adoption expected to be gradual. TikTok’s AI-generated content guidance and its May 9, 2024 announcement describe that approach.
Meta has said it uses invisible markers and information shared through standards such as C2PA and IPTC as part of its AI-labeling approach. Its broader policy says an “AI info” label may be based on industry-shared signals or a user’s disclosure. See Meta’s February 6, 2024 announcement and updated May 10, 2024 explanation.

These policies explain how provenance metadata may contribute to a label. They do not establish that every Photoshop or Premiere export carries a credential, that every credential triggers a label, or that a particular post was labeled for one specific reason.
What to check in your Photoshop or Premiere workflow
Look for generative AI use anywhere in the content history
Check whether the source image, footage, audio, or any asset in the sequence was created or altered with a generative feature. The final export may combine ordinary editing with an AI-generated element. A credential can describe that production history; it does not, by itself, tell you how much of the finished work was generated.

Check whether Content Credentials are attached at export
Adobe documents Content Credentials in Photoshop and Premiere, and says credentials may be attached during export. Premiere’s help also describes an export notification when a sequence contains Adobe AI-generated assets. The available documentation does not establish one universal export path or setting that applies across every app version and file format. Consult the help for your installed version, including Adobe’s Premiere and Media Encoder guidance.
Even if you confirm that a credential is present, that only identifies a possible signal for a platform to interpret. Adobe explicitly says it cannot guarantee that publishing destinations support Content Credentials. Support and interpretation can vary by platform. Adobe’s guidance discusses that limitation.

Can you stop Instagram or TikTok from applying the label?
There is no confirmed switch that guarantees an export will not be labeled. The official explanations describe broad signals and disclosure policies, but do not publish a field-by-field rule for how Instagram decides whether to label an ordinary Photoshop or Premiere export. TikTok describes its use of credentials, but that does not establish a predictable outcome for every file.
Do not treat stripping metadata as a reliable fix. The cited platform and Adobe guidance does not establish that removing Content Credentials prevents a label, and the label may have another basis, such as user disclosure. Removing provenance information can also make the production history less transparent.

How to investigate a specific post
- Review the assets. Note whether generative features were used for the source image, video, audio, or any component in the sequence.
- Review the export workflow. Check the app’s Content Credentials options and any export notification. Record the application version and file format rather than assuming the setting behaves identically across versions.
- Compare the same file at each stage. Keep a copy of the exported file and note what label appears after upload. Record the platform, account, file type, export route, and date. This makes a support report more useful; it does not reveal the platform’s private decision rule.
- Describe the result precisely. Say that the platform displayed an AI label, not that the label proves the whole image or video was AI-generated.
What an AI label does—and does not—prove
A platform label is a disclosure or signal, not independent proof that every part of a post was generated by AI. It may reflect provenance metadata, another industry-shared signal, or a user disclosure. Conversely, the absence of a label does not establish that AI tools were not used: platforms may not support or recognize every credential or signal. The exact reason for a particular Instagram label cannot be confirmed from the public policy descriptions alone.
