Choose by connector first, then by fit and game support. For iPhones with a Lightning port, you need a Lightning-specific Backbone One or Razer Kishi V2. For USB-C phones and USB-C iPhone models, compare the matching USB-C versions, then check your phone’s length, thickness, camera bump and case. In this comparison, GameSir means the wired USB-C G8 Galileo; the smaller X2s Type-C is a different controller with different fit limits.

None of the available documentation establishes a universal winner for comfort, latency, durability or reliability. The practical choice depends on your phone, the games and services you use, whether you need touch remapping, and whether charging or a headphone jack matters.

What each controller is—and what this comparison covers

The names in the question represent several connector variants and, in GameSir’s case, multiple models. Treating each brand as one interchangeable product leads to incorrect compatibility advice. This guide compares:

  • Backbone One: the USB-C model for Android and USB-C iPhone devices, and the separate Lightning model for Lightning iPhones.
  • Razer Kishi V2: USB-C and Lightning versions, with the exact phone support depending on the version.
  • GameSir G8 Galileo: a wired USB-C controller used here as the main GameSir comparison.
  • GameSir X2s Type-C: a separate USB-C model mentioned where its published fit and operating-system requirements differ from the G8.

Before buying, identify your phone’s physical port and model. A controller that fits the brand name but has the wrong connector cannot be made compatible with an adapter in the same way as a purpose-built variant.

Compatibility starts with the connector

Lightning iPhones

Lightning iPhones require a Lightning controller variant. Backbone’s Lightning product page directs iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 series owners to the USB-C version, while older Lightning-equipped iPhones use the Lightning model. Razer also lists a Lightning Kishi V2 separately from its USB-C version. Do not assume a product listing titled simply “Backbone One” or “Kishi V2” identifies the connector; read the variant name and the phone-compatibility list.

USB-C iPhones and Android phones

USB-C Backbone One and USB-C Razer Kishi V2 versions are intended for Android and USB-C iPhone devices. The GameSir G8 Galileo and X2s Type-C in this comparison are wired USB-C controllers. A USB-C port alone is not a complete compatibility guarantee: the phone must physically fit, support the required USB behavior and run a compatible operating system.

Why adapters are a poor shortcut

Mechanical length, connector position, camera clearance and USB communication all matter. A passive adapter may change the plug shape without solving a recessed port, a large camera island or a case that prevents the controller from seating. Buy the variant made for the phone’s port whenever possible.

Physical fit: measure the phone, case and camera

Pull the phone out of its case, measure it, and compare those measurements with the exact model’s published limits. Then repeat the check with the case installed. Camera protrusions are especially important because the phone can appear short enough while the camera housing collides with the controller bridge.

GameSir G8 Galileo limits

GameSir lists the G8 Galileo for phones from 110 to 185 mm in length, with phone depth of 13 mm or less and camera depth of 5 mm or less. Its specification says cases up to 1 mm thick are supported. These are manufacturer limits for this model, not universal limits for Backbone, Razer or every GameSir controller.

GameSir X2s Type-C limits

The X2s Type-C connection tutorial states iOS 14 or later, Android 8.0 or later, phone length of 110–168 mm and case thickness up to 1 mm. Its FAQ separately identifies iPhone 15 series and Android phones within a stated length range. The FAQ displays inconsistent units in its length wording, so use the 110–168 mm figure from the connection tutorial and check the current manual before purchasing.

Backbone and Razer fit checks

The cited Backbone and Razer product pages identify connector and platform variants, but the material available here does not establish one shared set of phone-length, camera-depth or case-thickness limits for all versions. Use the compatibility list for the exact Backbone or Kishi SKU, then confirm your phone and case against that model’s current specifications. If the page does not state a limit, treat it as not stated, not as permission to assume a large phone will fit.

Features that differ in practical use

Native controller support versus touch controls

A physical controller only works automatically when the game recognizes gamepad input. Native support is common in many console-style mobile games, cloud-gaming clients and remote-play apps, but it is not universal. Check the game’s current support notes before buying for one particular title.

Razer describes a remapping feature in its Nexus app for selected mobile games. Remapping overlays controller inputs onto touchscreen controls; it is a software function with per-game and per-platform caveats, not a guarantee that every touch-only game will work. GameSir’s related G8+ MFi documentation states that its Android touch-mapping functions are unavailable on iOS because of platform restrictions and advises iOS users to choose games with native controller support. That manual concerns the G8+ MFi, not automatically the G8 Galileo or X2s, so verify the exact model’s current support information.

Passthrough charging

Razer Kishi V2 documentation describes USB-C passthrough charging. GameSir lists passthrough charging for the G8 Galileo but qualifies that not all phones support it. Passthrough does not mean the controller contains a battery; it means a charger can connect through the controller to the phone when the phone and software permit it. Check whether your phone accepts charging through the controller while a game is running, and whether the connector remains accessible with your case installed.

Audio connection

The G8 Galileo specifications list a 3.5 mm audio jack. The material used for this comparison does not establish an equivalent headphone-jack specification for every Backbone One or Kishi V2 variant. If wired audio is essential, treat the exact model’s published port list as decisive rather than inferring parity from the product family.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Controls and customization

GameSir lists Hall Effect sticks, Hall Effect analog triggers, two rear buttons and software customization for the G8 Galileo. The X2s FAQ also describes Hall Effect sticks and analog triggers. These are hardware and software specifications; they do not prove lower latency, greater durability or a better feel than another controller. Backbone and Razer layouts should be checked on the exact product page if a particular button arrangement, stick position or rear control matters to you.

Backbone One: who it suits

Backbone presents its USB-C controller for Android and USB-C iPhone use, with native mobile games, cloud services and remote play among its use cases. Its named service examples include Xbox Game Pass, Apple Arcade, GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna and PlayStation or PC remote play. Those names describe possible services and pathways, not an inclusion of subscriptions or a promise that every game works in every country.

Backbone’s Android-specific note is important for PlayStation remote play: the official PS Remote Play app supports the Backbone One PlayStation Edition on Android, while other Backbone controllers are not supported there. If Android remote play is your main reason for buying, identify the PlayStation Edition requirement before choosing a standard model.

Backbone is therefore most attractive when you want a compact, phone-specific controller and your phone matches the connector edition. It is not automatically the right choice for a Lightning iPhone, a thick case or a game that lacks native gamepad support.

Razer Kishi V2: who it suits

Razer offers Kishi V2 in USB-C and Lightning forms. Its published feature set includes USB-C passthrough charging and the Razer Nexus remapping feature for selected mobile games. The key buying task is matching the correct connector and confirming that your phone appears on the supported-device list.

Kishi V2 is worth prioritizing when passthrough charging is a deciding requirement or when you need to investigate Nexus remapping for a particular game. Remapping remains conditional: the app, operating system and game must all support the method, and a remap profile does not turn every touch interface into a fully supported gamepad.

GameSir G8 Galileo: who it suits

The wired USB-C G8 Galileo has the most detailed fit and port information in this comparison. It accepts phones 110–185 mm long, up to 13 mm deep, with camera depth up to 5 mm, and supports cases up to 1 mm thick according to GameSir’s US specifications. It lists a 3.5 mm audio jack, Hall Effect sticks and analog triggers, two back buttons, software customization and passthrough charging, with the qualification that passthrough does not work on every phone.

  • Cushioned and Durable Membrane: The X5 Lite is equipped with cushioned and durable membrane triggers and buttons. The cushioned feedback provides a comfortable experience while ensuring quieter operation

Choose the G8 when those documented hardware features match your priorities and your phone fits the limits. Its published dimensions do not establish that it is more comfortable or more responsive than Backbone or Razer. A large camera island, a case thicker than 1 mm or a phone outside the length/depth range can disqualify it even if the USB-C connector is correct.

GameSir X2s Type-C: a smaller, separate option

The X2s Type-C is not another name for the G8 Galileo. Its connection tutorial specifies Android 8.0 or later, iOS 14 or later, 110–168 mm phone length and case thickness up to 1 mm. Those limits exclude some larger phones that fall within the G8’s 185 mm maximum. The X2s FAQ describes a wired connection, Hall Effect sticks and analog triggers, and references iPhone 15 series support.

Because the FAQ’s displayed length units are inconsistent, rely on the tutorial’s millimeter range and verify the current manual. Also confirm whether the exact X2s software supports the game and operating system you intend to use; do not transfer G8 Galileo claims to it.

How to choose in five steps

  1. Identify the port. Record whether the phone uses Lightning or USB-C. Eliminate every controller variant with the wrong connector.
  2. Record physical measurements. Measure phone length and depth, note the camera bump, and measure case thickness if you play without removing the case.
  3. Compare against the exact model. For the G8, use 110–185 mm, up to 13 mm depth, up to 5 mm camera depth and a 1 mm case allowance. For X2s, use 110–168 mm and a 1 mm case allowance from the connection tutorial. For Backbone and Kishi, use the current SKU-specific compatibility list.
  4. Check game input. Confirm native controller support for the games you care about. If a game is touch-only, investigate the exact controller’s legitimate remapping support on your operating system.
  5. Check secondary requirements. Decide whether passthrough charging, a 3.5 mm jack, rear buttons or cloud/remote-play support changes the shortlist. Verify each feature on the exact model page rather than assuming it applies to the whole brand.

Setup and troubleshooting

The phone is not detected

  • Remove the case and reseat the phone so the connector is fully inserted.
  • Confirm that the connector variant matches the phone’s port.
  • Restart the game and controller app after connecting; some games detect a gamepad only at launch.
  • Test a game known to support controllers natively. A failure in one touch-only game does not prove the hardware is defective.
  • Check the controller manufacturer’s current compatibility list and firmware guidance for your exact phone model.

Buttons work in menus but not in a game

The game may lack native support or may require a controller setting to be enabled. Look for the game’s input options, then check whether the controller’s companion app offers a supported remapping mode on your operating system. Do not assume an Android mapping feature is available on iOS.

Charging does not pass through

Passthrough is model- and phone-dependent. Try a known-good charger and cable, remove the case, and confirm that the phone supports charging through the controller. For the G8 Galileo, GameSir explicitly says not all phones support this function; absence of charging therefore is not automatically a hardware fault.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The phone will not seat because of the camera or case

Measure the obstruction rather than forcing the phone into the grips. A case thicker than the stated allowance or a camera bump deeper than the published clearance can prevent safe seating. Remove the case, use a compatible thinner case, or choose a model with limits that accommodate the phone.

Cloud gaming and remote play considerations

Backbone names Xbox Game Pass, Apple Arcade, GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna and PlayStation or PC remote play as supported use cases. A controller can provide the physical input while the service separately controls streaming, account, subscription, region and game availability. Check those service requirements independently. Remote play also depends on the console or PC app; compatibility with one service does not establish compatibility with every other service.

Price, availability and evidence limits

No consistent, date-stamped street-price comparison is established for these models. Prices, stock and regional bundles change, so check the exact connector edition and retailer listing in your country at the time of purchase. A lower listed price for one variant is not a valid comparison if it is a different connector, generation or bundle.

The specifications above come from manufacturer product pages and support material. They do not constitute controlled head-to-head testing. There is no independent evidence here to rank comfort, button feel, latency, battery impact, durability or long-term reliability. Treat Hall Effect components, remapping, charging and audio ports as documented features—not as proof of superior performance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which one should you buy?

  • Buy a Lightning Backbone One or Lightning Kishi V2 only when your iPhone has a Lightning port and the exact model list includes it.
  • Compare USB-C Backbone One and USB-C Kishi V2 when you use a USB-C iPhone or Android phone and want a compact controller, checking fit and game support before features.
  • Choose the G8 Galileo when your phone fits its 110–185 mm, 13 mm depth and 5 mm camera-depth limits, your case is no thicker than 1 mm, and you value its listed 3.5 mm jack, rear buttons, Hall Effect controls or passthrough charging.
  • Consider the X2s Type-C when its 110–168 mm length range and 1 mm case allowance fit your phone; verify the current manual because the FAQ’s displayed units are inconsistent.
  • For a touch-only game, select based on confirmed remapping support for that exact game and operating system, or choose a game with native controller support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can one Backbone One fit both Lightning and USB-C iPhones?

No. Backbone lists separate Lightning and USB-C versions. Use the Lightning model for a Lightning iPhone and the USB-C model for USB-C iPhone models, including the iPhone 15 and 16 series.

Does the GameSir G8 Galileo work with every USB-C phone?

No. The phone must fit the G8’s published limits—110–185 mm long, no more than 13 mm deep, camera depth no more than 5 mm, and a case up to 1 mm—and the phone must support the controller’s USB and charging behavior.

Will remapping make any mobile game compatible?

No. Remapping is software- and game-dependent. Razer documents Nexus remapping for selected games, while related GameSir documentation warns that Android touch mapping is unavailable on iOS.

Are these controllers tested to have the same latency or comfort?

No. The available manufacturer specifications do not provide controlled, comparable measurements for comfort, latency, durability or reliability.
