Philips lists an 8.3 L capacity and 2200 W power. Its strongest case is for cooks who want guided cooking and room for larger batches; its size, single-basket layout and substantial countertop footprint make it less compelling for kitchens with limited space or for meals that need two foods cooked separately at once.
What is the Philips HD9880/90?
Philips markets this model as the 7000 Series Airfryer Combi XXL Connected or XXXL Connected, depending on the regional product page. The model number, HD9880/90, is the clearest way to identify it when checking local listings and specifications. Philips Australia lists a height of 357 mm rather than the 351 mm shown in the specification PDF, so check the local product page and leave clearance for airflow, opening the basket and handling hot food. How useful are the thermometer and cooking programs?
The integrated food thermometer is the most practical differentiator from a basic air fryer. It gives the appliance a way to guide cooking around the food’s internal temperature rather than relying only on a preset time. Philips pairs it with Auto-Cook programs and app guidance, which may reduce guesswork for users who prefer prompted settings. The feature set is most valuable if you regularly cook whole cuts or want guided recipes; it adds less for someone who mainly reheats snacks or manually adjusts familiar foods.
Philips lists functions including frying, roasting, grilling, baking, one-pot cooking, stir-frying, sautéing, cooking from frozen, reheating, defrosting, keeping warm, dehydrating, toasting, stewing, fermenting, confit, slow cooking, braising and sous vide, along with combination modes. These are manufacturer-listed capabilities, not a guarantee that the appliance replaces dedicated equipment for every technique.

What does independent coverage say about performance?
CHIP’s test summary describes fries that cooked quickly and came out crisp, while also noting operating noise. This is a secondary summary of independent testing, not a result from this review. Cleaning, handling and connectivity
Philips says the parts are dishwasher safe and promotes QuickClean access. Those are manufacturer claims about maintenance rather than independently established cleaning results. Individual comments on Philips’ site include positive remarks about cleaning and cooking, alongside a complaint about pan stability on the single rail and another about missing accessories. Philips’ energy and speed claims
Philips says the appliance can save up to 70% energy and cook up to 40% faster than an oven. These are Philips’ own comparison claims, with footnotes specifying comparison conditions and foods; they should not be treated as universal savings or timing for every meal, oven or kitchen.
