Is the Philips Fidelio FT1 with FA3 worth buying? It is a compelling, unusually versatile setup if you want vinyl and CD playback from one component and enjoy energetic, forward sound. The FT1 turntable/CD player and FA3 powered speakers are sold separately, so account for their combined local price. The main reservations are the speakers’ size and placement needs, plus a lively presentation that may be too emphatic for listeners who prefer a more restrained balance.
What is included in the Philips Fidelio FT1 and FA3 system?
The combination pairs Philips’ two-speed Fidelio FT1 turntable/CD player (model TAFT1/10) with the active Fidelio FA3 stereo bookshelf speaker pair (model TAFA3/10). They are separate products, not a single bundled system. The FT1 can play 33⅓ and 45 rpm records and tray-loading CDs; the FA3 supplies amplification and stereo playback without a separate amplifier.
Philips lists the FT1 with Bluetooth 5.4, Auracast, RCA output and a headphone port, and says it can be used wired or wirelessly. The launch announcement also describes an adjustable counterweight, a replaceable Audio-Technica moving-magnet stylus and auto-stop. Those details make it more than a basic record spinner: it combines two physical formats with wireless listening options. How does the FT1 and FA3 sound?
T3 reviewer Simon Lucas describes a presentation with energy, directness and detail, particularly enjoyable vocals, a broad and well-defined soundstage, substantial low-frequency output and lively treble. Lucas wrote, “What’s most immediately impressive and engaging about this set-up is the sense of energy and animation it creates.” That is his listening impression, not a measured result. T3’s review assesses the components together and with other sources and speakers.
The character is also the system’s most important trade-off. Its emphatic delivery can make music feel exciting and full, but may become relentless for listeners who want a more neutral or subtle sound. TechRadar likewise describes the FA3 as forceful and full-scale. What Hi-Fi? praises its bold, powerful sound and connectivity, while finding it less subtle and clear than the Ruark MR1 Mk3 and Onkyo GX-30ARC. These are reviewer judgments rather than lab findings. What should you know about setup and everyday use?
Both FA3 speakers require mains power. The secondary speaker connects to the primary either with a coaxial audio cable or through a 2.4 GHz wireless link. T3 reports that the system’s digital audio path operates natively at 24-bit/96 kHz and downsamples higher-resolution inputs. The speakers also tilt upward, so placement affects how directly their sound reaches the listening position.

Measure the available surface and make sure the pair will not crowd a desk or shelf.
- Check the listening angle: Their upward-tilting orientation is unusual; place them so that the intended listening position is appropriately aligned.
- Choose the inter-speaker connection: Decide whether a coaxial cable or the wireless link better suits your layout, and make sure both speakers can reach mains power.
- Plan your source connections: The FA3’s HDMI ARC can serve a compatible TV, while optical, USB-C and RCA cover other wired sources. Bluetooth and Auracast offer wireless options.
- Expect some control quirks: T3 found the app and remote controls idiosyncratic. Its review also notes glossy, fingerprint-prone surfaces.
How much do the Philips Fidelio FT1 and FA3 cost?
The components are sold separately, and prices vary by region and date. T3 reported UK prices of £269 for the FT1 and £349 for the FA3 on 23 August 2026, alongside approximate equivalents of $349/AU$469 for the FT1 and $399/AU$499 for the FA3. That dated report implies a combined UK component price of £618 at those reported prices, before any delivery or other costs; it is not a bundle price or a guarantee of current availability. T3’s review carries those figures.

For the FA3, TechRadar reported $399 / £349 / AU$499 and a January 2026 release, after the products were announced in September 2025. Philips’ regional FA3 storefront showed the speakers out of stock when viewed for this review, but that status does not establish availability in other regions. This pairing makes the most sense if you want vinyl and CDs from the same source, a powered stereo setup, and connections that can also accommodate a TV and other audio devices. Its energetic sound is a better fit for listeners who like an upfront, lively presentation than for those seeking a particularly restrained or subtle balance.

Consider alternatives by need rather than treating them as direct equivalents. The Ruark MR1 Mk3 and Onkyo GX-30ARC are powered-speaker options discussed in reviews, while the Sony PS-LX310BT is a Bluetooth turntable alternative. None is an exact substitute for the FT1/FA3 combination: T3 notes that finding a comparable turntable with an integrated CD player and matching speakers is difficult. Compare the number of formats you need, your TV and audio connections, preferred sound character, available space and the total local cost of separately sold components.
