The Philips Azur 8000 DST8050/21 is a 2400 W conventional steam iron with up to 55 g/min continuous steam, a 240 g steam boost and a 350 ml tank, according to Philips. Its appeal is convenience: motion-sensing steam, one-setting OptimalTEMP temperature control and Quick Calc Release. Those are manufacturer specifications and claims, not results from an independent comparative test.
What the Philips Azur 8000 DST8050/21 offers
Philips lists this exact regional variant as model DST8050/21. Its published specifications are:
- Power: 2400 W.
- Continuous steam: up to 55 g/min.
- Steam boost: 240 g.
- Water tank: 350 ml.
- Weight: 1.78 kg, according to Philips’ 2023 specification sheet.
The 55 g/min figure is the stated maximum continuous output; it is not a measurement of typical use. Philips product material and the specification sheet describe the product, rather than documenting independent performance testing. How steam and temperature controls work
Motion-sensing automatic steam
Philips lists motion-sensing automatic steam as a convenience feature: the iron detects movement and supplies steam accordingly. The published material does not establish how much time or water this saves in ordinary ironing, so treat it as an operating feature rather than a guaranteed efficiency result.

OptimalTEMP
OptimalTEMP is designed to avoid manually changing temperature settings between suitable ironable fabrics. Philips describes it as “One optimal temperature setting, for no burns guaranteed.” That is Philips’ product claim, not an independently verified guarantee that every fabric or circumstance is burn-proof. Check garment care labels and follow the iron’s instructions, especially with delicate or unusual materials.
Vertical steam and steam boost
The iron supports vertical steaming, which can be useful for refreshing hanging garments or curtains, and has a stated 240 g steam boost for a burst of steam. The brochure does not provide an independent test of crease removal or specify a real-world result for either feature.

Descaling, water and automatic shut-off
Philips identifies Quick Calc Release as the DST8050/21’s descaling approach and says the iron is suitable for tap water. Water quality varies by location, so consult the model’s manual and local support guidance for water choice and descaling steps rather than assuming every tap-water condition is identical. Philips’ water guidance and descaling instructions address these care questions.
Philips lists automatic shut-off after eight minutes. This is a stated safety convenience; follow the product manual for operating and storage precautions. If the iron has steam or heating problems, use the troubleshooting information on the DST8050/21 support page.

What owners report—and what that evidence can tell you
Philips-hosted consumer reviews include praise for ease of use and the automatic temperature handling. Some reviewers also mention water use, the iron’s weight, or uncertainty about relying on automatic temperature control with delicate fabrics. These are individual experiences, not controlled comparisons or proof of a typical outcome. The listed 1.78 kg weight may matter if you prefer a lighter iron or do long ironing sessions.
How DST8050/21 differs from nearby Azur 8000 variants
Do not assume figures from another Azur 8000 suffix apply to this model. Philips markets related variants with different power and steam specifications; the /21’s published values are 2400 W, up to 55 g/min continuous steam and a 240 g boost. Compare only exact model suffixes on the relevant regional listing. In particular, specifications for DST8050/20 or DST8050/26 should not be used as specifications for DST8050/21. Is the Philips DST8050/21 worth buying?
It is a plausible choice if you want a conventional steam iron with automatic steam, one-setting temperature management, vertical steaming and an accessible tank size, and you are comfortable with its stated 1.78 kg weight. Its key strengths are the convenience features Philips specifies; the available evidence does not establish that it irons faster or performs better than competing models. Before buying, confirm that the listing is DST8050/21, compare exact-variant specifications, and check the local price, availability and warranty terms for your country.
