An ERP dashboard cannot show supply-chain information that its source systems never captured, that trading partners have not shared, or that cannot be matched reliably across records. The dashboard is the decision interface; end-to-end visibility depends on the data architecture beneath it: what is captured, how it is identified and exchanged, how discrepancies are reconciled, and how measures are defined.
Why an ERP dashboard cannot provide end-to-end visibility on its own
A dashboard summarizes data available to it. It does not automatically add detail, fill gaps between companies, resolve conflicting records, or make an old update current. If the underlying systems hold only an aggregate quantity or cover only part of a shipment’s journey, the dashboard reflects those limits.
Granularity is one common gap. A GS1 US healthcare example describes an ERP recording receipt of a carton quantity while a connected system records each stent’s serial number, lot number, and expiry date. The ERP view can answer how many cartons were received; it cannot answer which individual serialized products were in them unless the detailed records are captured and connected to the relevant transaction.
Coverage is another. A view of inventory at one facility is not necessarily a view of supplier production, distributor shipments, transportation legs, and downstream receipts. A dashboard may be accurate within its boundary and still be incomplete for an end-to-end decision.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Finally, displayed data may not share consistent meanings. Product codes, units of measure, timestamps, and event descriptions can differ between systems. If an integration drops unmatched records or treats different units as equivalent, a clean chart can conceal an unreliable underlying picture.
What data architecture makes visibility more trustworthy?
Think of visibility as a flow from operational activity to a decision, with controls at each stage. A warehouse or equivalent analytics store can help reconcile records and establish consistent metrics, but it is one part of the design rather than a substitute for sound capture and exchange.
- Operational sources: Identify the ERP records and other operational feeds needed for the decision: purchase orders, receipts, inventory, manufacturing and warehouse activity, supplier or distributor data, and serialization or scanning events.
- Capture and integration: Bring in records through suitable APIs, files, messages, or event capture. Map identifiers and set refresh schedules that reflect actual source and partner capabilities. A connection is not necessarily real time; document its cadence and what happens when a source is unavailable.
- Data quality and shared meaning: Align product and location identifiers, units, timestamps, and business-event definitions. Validate incoming records and preserve source lineage. Route missing, duplicate, conflicting, or unmatched events to an exception process rather than silently discarding them.
- Analytics data layer: Reconcile relevant operational records in a governed warehouse or comparable store. Define KPIs consistently there so separate dashboards do not produce different answers from the same underlying activity.
- Decision interface: Show measures and trends in dashboards, with drill-through to the transactions or exceptions behind them. Access controls should fit users’ roles and protect commercial or patient-sensitive information.
- Partner interoperability: Agree how records will be exchanged and interpreted across organizational boundaries. In the U.S. DSCSA context, FDA recommends EPCIS for secure, interoperable electronic data exchange; partner readiness and the applicable requirements still matter.
A Qatar case study offers one example of this pattern: supplier ERP data was extracted into an enterprise data warehouse, checked for inconsistent product codes, units, and transaction timestamps, then presented in Tableau dashboards with KPIs and drill-downs. It is an example of an implementation, not a universal reference architecture.

What should a pharma supply-chain dashboard be able to answer?
Start with the decision, then work backward to the data required. A dashboard intended to support replenishment has different needs from one used to investigate a serialized product or coordinate a recall. For each measure, document its definition, coverage, update cadence, owner, and source records.
- Inventory and availability: What quantity is available at which location, in what unit, and as of what source update?
- Supply risk: Which products or orders are delayed, short, or exposed to an identified supply issue, and which supplier or shipment records support that status?
- Product traceability: Can users move from an aggregate receipt to lot, serial, expiry, and shipment-event details where those records exist and are connected?
- Exceptions: Which orders, shipments, receipts, or product events do not reconcile, and who is responsible for investigating them?
- Performance measures: Are back-order, expiry, and inventory-quality metrics defined consistently, and can a user trace a result to its underlying transactions?
Useful visibility is not simply more data on screen. It is enough relevant, reconciled detail to support the decision, with a clear indication of what is missing or stale.
How do standards help data move across company boundaries?
Trading partners need shared identifiers and shared meaning, not merely a technical connection. If one party describes a product, location, or business event differently from another, exchanged records can still fail to match.

For enhanced tracing under the U.S. Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA), FDA recommends the GS1 Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS) standard to enable secure, interoperable electronic exchange among the pharmaceutical distribution chain. The recommendation is not a statement that EPCIS is the only possible approach. FDA also clarifies that DSCSA does not itself require a particular location identifier such as a Global Location Number (GLN), although a trading partner may request one for EPCIS exchange.
FDA’s DSCSA pilot program explored technologies and methods for enhanced product tracing and verification, but the program has concluded. FDA states that participation in the pilot should not be read as an endorsement of a technology or as a determination that a participant is compliant. A standard or successful pilot, by itself, does not establish compliance.
FDA describes DSCSA product-tracing requirements as applying to most human prescription drugs in finished dosage form and relevant trading partners, including manufacturers, repackagers, wholesale distributors, and dispensers. The agency lists exclusions including over-the-counter drugs, animal drugs, certain intravenous drugs, medical gases, and lawfully compounded drugs. Companies should confirm applicability against current law and FDA guidance before using a dashboard or integration design as an operational compliance interpretation.

What case studies show—and what they do not prove
A Qatar pharmacy network: an integrated data layer and descriptive results
A 2026 case study from Primary Health Care Corporation in Qatar describes dashboards deployed across a network of 32 pharmacies. It reports the following results and measures:
| Reported measure | Case-study result | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Back-order rate | 6.7% to 4.5% in 2024 | A change reported for this network; the authors describe a single observational case without statistical or inferential evaluation, so the dashboard cannot be credited as the cause. |
| Average medication shelf life | 551 to 568 days | Reported alongside an improved expiry profile in this case; it is not a guaranteed effect in other networks. |
| Valid inventory | 96% | Reported in the case-study abstract. |
| Very short-expiry items | 3% | Reported in the case-study abstract. |
The example illustrates how integrating, validating, and presenting data can support operational monitoring. Because the authors identify the work as a single observational case and caution against causal or broad generalization, its figures should be treated as descriptive results for that network.

A GS1 US case study of Operation Brilliance describes an eight-week Walmart and Gildan retail pilot and reports a 99% detection rate. The case is not pharmaceutical evidence and should not be used to predict pharma performance. Its relevant lesson is narrower: shared event information can help trading partners align shipment details and investigate discrepancies that fragmented, point-to-point exchanges may leave unresolved. GS1 US notes that visibility often stops at the boundaries of individual trading-partner relationships.

Historical pharmaceutical pilot: collaboration matters, but adoption is not automatic
A GS1 US case study describes a historical serialization pilot involving AmerisourceBergen and Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain. It presents partner collaboration and a robust, well-implemented serialization platform as important to exchanging useful information and supporting future supply-chain capabilities. The company scale figures in that historical case—more than 450 manufacturers and more than 60,000 customers—are contextual figures from the case, not current verified counts. The pilot is an illustration of collaboration, not proof that a particular architecture ensures compliance or produces a universal operational outcome.
How to assess an ERP visibility project before building more dashboards
Use these questions to find whether the limiting factor is presentation, integration, data quality, or partner coverage:
- Granularity: Does the decision require aggregate quantities, or lot, serial, expiry, and shipment-event details? Which source actually captures each level?
- Coverage: Which internal systems, trading partners, facilities, and transportation legs are included? Where does visibility stop?
- Data quality: Are identifiers, unit conversions, timestamps, and event definitions validated? Are duplicates and conflicts surfaced for review?
- Latency: When is each source refreshed, and how quickly can an event appear in the view? Describe the actual cadence rather than labeling data real time without evidence.
- Interoperability: Can partners exchange records in a format and vocabulary both sides support? For U.S. DSCSA enhanced tracing, has the team considered FDA’s EPCIS recommendation?
- Reconciliation: Can the system match an order to its shipment, receipt, and product events, and show unmatched records as exceptions?
- Governance: Who owns each data element and KPI? Can users trace a displayed value to its source and see when it was updated, while access remains appropriately controlled?
- Decision fit: Does the intended user have the drill-down and exception workflow needed to act, rather than just a high-level chart?
If a dashboard fails one of these tests, adding another visual may not help. Repair the missing capture, mapping, reconciliation, partner exchange, or governance capability first; then make the interface expose the resulting data and its limits clearly.
