Phantom Blade Zero has two PC requirement tiers on its Steam listing. The minimum profile is aimed at 1080p/30 FPS with upscaling, while the recommended profile is aimed at 1440p/60 FPS with upscaling. Both require 16 GB of RAM, a 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation, DirectX 12 and an SSD. The exact CPU and GPU examples are in the table below.

These are storefront targets, not independent benchmark guarantees. Steam does not state an install size, graphics preset, native-resolution target or performance guarantee for every scene. The listing gives an October 28, 2026 release date and identifies S-GAME Studio as developer; requirements may be revised before launch, so check the Steam page again near release.

Official Phantom Blade Zero PC requirements

The game is built with Unreal Engine 5. Steam separates the hardware into minimum and recommended examples. Treat the rows as complete profiles: CPU, graphics card, memory, operating system, DirectX and storage all matter together.

What the two performance targets actually mean

Minimum is a 1080p/30-FPS target, not a universal guarantee

The minimum row describes a 1080p output target at 30 frames per second with upscaling turned on. It does not establish that every level, combat encounter, visual effect or graphics setting will hold 30 FPS. It also does not say that the game will render internally at a native 1920×1080 resolution.

Recommended is a 1440p/60-FPS target with the same caveat

The recommended row is the appropriate starting point for a 1440p, 60-FPS goal, but Steam still assumes upscaling. It is not evidence of native 2560×1440 performance, nor does it guarantee a locked 60 FPS in every situation. The listing does not name the upscaling technology or specify a graphics preset.

Why upscaling changes the comparison

Upscaling renders frames at a lower internal resolution and reconstructs them for the selected output. That can make a target achievable on less powerful hardware than native rendering, while image quality and motion clarity depend on the eventual implementation and settings. Because Steam does not identify the upscaler, you should not assume a particular vendor technology or quality mode.

Can my PC run Phantom Blade Zero?

Use the following check instead of comparing only your graphics card. A machine that matches the GPU row but falls below the CPU, operating-system, DirectX or SSD conditions is not a confirmed match for the listed profile.

  1. Record your processor. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, select Performance, then CPU. Note the full model name.
  2. Record your graphics card and video memory. In Task Manager, choose Performance and GPU. Use the dedicated-memory figure for a discrete card; do not treat shared system memory as equivalent VRAM.
  3. Check installed system RAM. Task Manager shows the total under Performance > Memory. The listed profiles both require 16 GB.
  4. Verify Windows edition and bitness. Open Settings > System > About. The requirement is Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit; a 32-bit installation does not satisfy it.
  5. Verify DirectX. Press Win+R, type dxdiag, press Enter and check the System tab. The storefront requirement is DirectX 12.
  6. Check the game drive. Both profiles explicitly require an SSD. Identify the physical drive that will hold the installation; having an SSD elsewhere in the computer does not help if the game is installed on a hard-disk drive.
  7. Compare the complete result with one table row. If any major component is below a row, describe the system as below that published profile rather than assuming the GPU alone determines compatibility.

This process tells you whether your configuration aligns with the published examples. It cannot predict frame-time consistency, shader-compilation stutter, laptop power limits or the effect of a future patch.

GPU guidance: what graphics card do you need?

For the minimum profile

Steam names the GeForce GTX 1660 with 6 GB of VRAM and the Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB as minimum examples. Either is a reference point for the lower target when upscaling is enabled. The two cards have different architectures and memory capacities, so the presence of 6 or 8 GB alone is not a performance ranking.

For the recommended profile

The recommended examples are the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with 8 GB and Radeon RX 6700 XT with 12 GB. These are the relevant NVIDIA and AMD alternatives for the listed 1440p/60-FPS-with-upscaling target. A card with more VRAM is not automatically faster; compare the entire model and your intended settings.

Desktop cards, laptop GPUs and integrated graphics

Steam lists desktop model names and does not provide laptop-specific equivalents. Laptop versions can run at different power limits and may use a different memory configuration, even when the name looks similar. Integrated graphics are not represented in either official row, so the listing provides no basis for promising playable performance on an integrated GPU.

Do not turn a model name into a guarantee

The requirements page supplies example parts rather than a measured benchmark chart. It does not state minimum graphics presets, 1% lows, ray-tracing settings or a frame-rate range. Use the rows to decide whether your hardware is in the intended class, then adjust expectations until independent testing and the final PC build are available.

CPU, memory and platform requirements

CPU examples are part of the requirement

The minimum examples are the Core i7-8700K and Ryzen 5 3600; the recommended examples are the Core i5-10600K and Ryzen 5 5600X. A processor that falls below the relevant class can limit frame pacing even when the graphics card is strong. Conversely, meeting a CPU example does not compensate for an underpowered GPU.

16 GB of RAM in both tiers

Steam specifies 16 GB of system memory for minimum and recommended configurations. That is installed RAM, not graphics-card VRAM. If your PC has less, it does not meet either listed profile. If it has 16 GB, close unnecessary applications before launching; the storefront does not publish a higher capacity for the recommended tier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

64-bit Windows 10 or 11

The requirement is specifically Windows 10 or Windows 11 in 64-bit form. Steam does not list older Windows versions, Linux, macOS or a 32-bit build. Compatibility layers or alternative operating systems would need separate confirmation from the developer or a tested release.

DirectX 12

DirectX 12 is required in both rows. Updating graphics drivers is sensible before launch, but a driver update cannot convert unsupported hardware or an incompatible operating-system installation into a listed configuration.

SSD installation is mandatory

Do not plan to install Phantom Blade Zero on a mechanical hard-disk drive. Steam marks an SSD as required for both minimum and recommended profiles. The listing does not state the game’s download size, installed size, required interface (SATA or NVMe) or a minimum capacity, so no exact storage number can be responsibly inferred.

Before buying or upgrading storage, check which physical drive your Steam library uses. In Steam, open Steam > Settings > Storage, select the library location and confirm it points to the SSD. Leave practical free space for the installation process and later patches without treating an invented capacity figure as an official requirement.

What PC do you need for 1440p at 60 FPS?

Start with the complete recommended row: one of its listed CPUs, one of its listed GPUs, 16 GB of RAM, 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, DirectX 12 and an SSD. Steam associates that combination with 1440p/60 FPS while upscaling is enabled.

  • Total command: Alienware Command Center software allows you to create and edit AlienFX lighting across the ecosystem, choose and monitor your performance mode across distinct power states, and create custom gaming profiles for your whole library.

That statement is a target, not a locked-performance certification. Native 1440p, a maximum preset, ray tracing, heavy effects or demanding future areas could require more headroom; Steam does not quantify those cases. If your monitor is 1440p but your system sits between the two rows, plan to use a lower output resolution, a lower internal-resolution/upscaling mode or a lower frame-rate goal rather than assuming the recommended result.

How to decide whether an upgrade is worthwhile

Your situation How to interpret it Practical next step
CPU, GPU, RAM, OS, DirectX and SSD all match the minimum row Your system aligns with Steam’s lower published profile. Use the minimum target as the expectation and wait for launch testing before selecting higher settings.
GPU matches a row but CPU is below it The configuration is not a complete match for that row. Evaluate the processor before assuming the graphics card settles compatibility.
CPU matches but GPU is below the row The graphics side is below the published example. Plan for a lower resolution or frame-rate goal, or upgrade the GPU; no official result is stated for the unmatched combination.
System has less than 16 GB RAM It misses the memory requirement shared by both profiles. Increase system memory before judging GPU performance.
Game library is on an HDD It fails the explicit SSD condition. Move the library or install the game on an SSD.
Windows is 32-bit or older than the listed versions The operating-system requirement is not met. Use a supported 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 installation.

This framework avoids a common mistake: spending money on a faster GPU while leaving an unsupported CPU, operating system, memory configuration or storage device unchanged.

Ray tracing and path tracing: what is confirmed?

An unofficial guide reports separate examples involving an RTX 5060 for ray tracing and an RTX 5080 for path tracing, with upscaling assumed. Those tiers are not present in the Steam requirements section and should not be treated as official requirements. You can read the guide at phantomblade.guide, but confirmation should come from an announcement by S-GAME itself.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The official table therefore covers the base minimum and recommended profiles only. Do not tell readers that ray tracing is required, that an RTX 5060 or RTX 5080 is necessary to play, or that the recommended cards include a particular ray-tracing mode.

What the developer has said about accessibility and Steam Deck

In a June 11, 2026 interview with PC Gamer, game director Qiwei “Soulframe” Liang discussed the cost of hardware upgrades and said: “This year the hardware price is going up, and people who want to replace their hardware may postpone their plan to upgrade their equipment, so we think we need to let the game be played by as many players as possible without reducing the quality.” The statement describes a development goal, not a benchmark or compatibility promise. The full interview is at PC Gamer.

The same interview characterizes Steam Deck support as a difficult task and says the team was polishing the game’s appearance with ray tracing disabled. Neither statement certifies Steam Deck support, a frame rate on Deck, or a requirement to enable ray tracing on PC. Until an official compatibility statement or tested release is available, treat Deck playability as unconfirmed.

Common mistakes when reading the listing

  • Calling the targets native resolution: both published targets explicitly include upscaling.
  • Checking only the GPU: CPU, RAM, Windows bitness, DirectX and SSD are listed conditions too.
  • Assuming “recommended” means required: it is the profile associated with Steam’s higher target, not a statement that lower hardware cannot launch.
  • Assuming “minimum” means a locked experience: it is an example profile and target, not a scene-by-scene guarantee.
  • Guessing an install size: Steam requires an SSD but does not publish a capacity figure in the cited requirements.
  • Promoting unconfirmed ray-tracing tiers: the higher examples come from an unofficial guide, not the official Steam table.
  • Using a developer aspiration as proof: an intention to reach more players is not measured compatibility data.

What to recheck before buying or installing

  1. Open the live Steam listing and confirm that the CPU, GPU, RAM, OS, DirectX and SSD requirements have not changed.
  2. Verify the release date and any launch-day notes; the current listing gives October 28, 2026.
  3. Check your exact desktop or laptop GPU model, dedicated VRAM and power configuration rather than relying on a family name.
  4. Confirm that the intended Steam library is on an SSD and has enough working space for installation and updates.
  5. Update Windows and graphics drivers, then compare real launch benchmarks before promising a fixed frame rate or a particular graphics preset.

Until the final build is available, the most defensible buying decision is to match the complete official profile that corresponds to your target, keep upscaling in the plan, and avoid treating unverified advanced-ray-tracing claims as requirements.
