Short answer: S-GAME has ideas and story material for Phantom Blade Zero expansions and sequels, but it has not announced a named sequel, DLC package, release window or production plan. The studio is also considering limited 2D animation inside the game, not confirming an animated series or film.
That distinction matters: statements from creator and CEO Soulframe describe future content as something players can expect in principle while S-GAME first focuses on making the base game substantial enough that extra content is not required.

What S-GAME has actually said about future content
In a pre-release interview, Soulframe said: “We hope first to ensure that the basic game content is very rich so that there is no need for DLC to provide additional supplements. However, we do have a lot of stories and characters that cannot be included yet, and both DLC and sequels can be expected.”

What “can be expected” does and does not mean
There is currently no announced DLC name, sequel title, story synopsis, launch window, budget, sales target or confirmed platform list. “Expected” describes the studio’s direction and creative capacity, not a shipping commitment. Until S-GAME publishes a separate announcement, any specific claim about Phantom Blade Zero 2 or a particular expansion would be speculation.

Why the animation comments are easy to misread
The interview question concerned whether the game’s animated story material could lead to more 2D animation. Soulframe answered that there “may be some possibility” of using 2D animation for special scenes such as the memory world, phantom illusions or other scenes different from reality, adding that the team was “still figuring it out.”

This describes a visual technique under consideration for the game itself. It is not confirmation of a separate animated production. The Year of the Dragon anime was described as a self-contained story intended to give audiences a taste of the Phantom Blade series, so it should not be treated as evidence that an ongoing adaptation has been ordered.
What game is launching first
The immediate product is a PlayStation 5 game. S-GAME’s creative-director letter, dated June 2, 2026, moved the launch from September 9 to October 29, 2026.

PlayStation describes Phantom Blade Zero as the spiritual rebirth of Rainblood, rather than a straight remake. The new story follows Soul, an elite assassin framed for murdering the Order’s patriarch. After receiving a mystic cure that lasts 66 days, he must find the mastermind before the cure fails.
The setting is Phantom World, a combination of Chinese kung fu, steampunk-like machinery and occult elements that S-GAME calls “Kungfupunk.” These foundations matter when judging any future content: an expansion could add a side story or new characters, while a sequel could continue the world with a separate campaign, but the studio has not said which path it will take.

How to read future announcements
When S-GAME provides more detail, the useful questions are practical rather than speculative:

- Story scope: Is the project a new chapter, a side story or a full continuation?
- Delivery model: Is it downloadable content for the original game or a standalone release?
- Visual format: Are the 2D sequences part of the game, or is there a separately produced animation?
- Timing: Is there a firm release date, a broad window or only an early concept?
- Platforms: Which editions and systems are officially supported?
- Base-game inclusion: Is the material included with the launch game or sold separately?
For now, the defensible reading is straightforward: S-GAME wants to make the launch game rich, has acknowledged stories and characters that could support DLC or sequels, and is exploring—not confirming—additional 2D animation. The only fixed near-term milestone is the October 29, 2026 PlayStation 5 launch.
