How does combat work in Phantom Blade Zero?
The announced combat is built around flowing sequences of attacks and defensive responses. Steam’s store description lists seamless combos alongside dodging, deflecting, countering, and striking. PlayStation’s gameplay deep dive adds ranged attacks, summons, and choices among weapons and accessories as ways to adapt.
These are options in the advertised combat toolkit; official descriptions do not say every move or tactic is required in every encounter, or identify one approach as universally strongest.
The official PlayStation page calls the game a dark wuxia action RPG and describes its presentation as kung-fu-inspired. Steam’s popular user-defined tags include “Souls-like,” but the developer’s reviewed materials do not formally classify the game that way. That tag can signal a broad audience comparison, not a definitive account of its mechanics.

How many weapons are in Phantom Blade Zero?
PlayStation’s August 17, 2026 gameplay deep dive says exploration can unlock more than 30 main weapons and 25 Phantom Edges, a secondary weapon category. It also says some defeated enemies add to the player’s arsenal.
Storefront descriptions use a less specific Phantom Edges count: Steam says “more than 20,” and the US PlayStation product page says “20+.” The August deep dive gives the more precise figure of 25; the available descriptions do not explain the difference in wording.

How do weapon upgrades and progression work?
Expand and customize your arsenal
The announced progression loop lets players find weapons through exploration, add some weapons by defeating enemies, upgrade weapons, and pair them with accessories. Summons are also described as a combat option. The reviewed materials do not detail weapon statistics, upgrade tiers, currencies, skill trees, or a complete build system.
Reforge to reinvest upgrade materials
Reforging is intended to make experimentation less costly: after upgrading a weapon, players can reforge it and recover its upgrade materials to invest in another weapon. S-Game founder and CEO Soulframe Liang explained the feature in PlayStation’s gameplay deep dive: “Don’t worry if you second guess a weapon you’ve upgraded or want to switch up your build. You can always reforge it, get those materials back, and reinvest them in another.”

How do side quests connect to the story?
The protagonist, Soul, is framed for murdering his master and has a wounded heart with 66 days left to live. In the Wulin, he encounters people in need. PlayStation says interactions and some side quests may open new story paths and deepen understanding of the world; it does not specify the full branching structure or promise that every side quest changes the main plot.
Release date and platform details
Phantom Blade Zero is currently listed for October 29, 2026, with October 28 shown for the US and select regions. S-Game’s June 2, 2026 letter says the launch moved from September 9 to October 29. The one-day difference reflects the dates shown across official regional and storefront listings.
The official Steam listing identifies S-GAME Studio as developer and S-GAME Publishing as publisher. The PlayStation 5 page advertises DualSense adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and spatial audio, as well as adjustable difficulty, control and tutorial reminders, pausing during offline gameplay or cinematics, and manual saving. The game is also listed for PC; official materials reviewed do not provide comparative PC and PS5 performance benchmarks, and they do not establish a controller as required.
