Hulu is the better choice for watching the original Law & Order on demand based on the catalogs currently displayed by both services. Hulu’s official series page lists 20 seasons and 457 episodes, while Peacock’s official page lists nine seasons. Peacock may still fit you better if you prefer its clearly published plan choices, or if you want a Peacock subscription for other programming as well. Hulu + Live TV is a separate option for watching select episodes on demand and new or syndicated broadcasts as they air, subject to regional restrictions and blackouts.
Catalogs, prices, advertising rules and live-channel availability change. The figures below reflect the official pages available in October 2026; check the service page and checkout screen immediately before subscribing.
Quick answer: Hulu has the larger original-series catalog
If your priority is the greatest number of episodes of the original Law & Order available to start on demand, Hulu leads on the services’ displayed catalog totals. Hulu lists 20 seasons and 457 episodes. Peacock lists nine seasons. Those figures come from each service’s own series page and are not an episode-by-episode audit, so an individual episode can still be unavailable, newly added or removed when you look.

Hulu + Live TV addresses a different need: it can provide select on-demand episodes and live or syndicated episodes as they air on included cable channels, but that route requires the Live TV plan and is subject to regional restrictions and blackouts.
#1 Best Overall
| Question | What the official pages currently show | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Original Law & Order on demand | Hulu: 20 seasons, 457 episodes. Peacock: nine seasons. | Hulu has the larger displayed catalog. |
| Live or syndicated viewing | Hulu’s guide describes this through Hulu + Live TV. | This is a live-TV route, not the same as the standard on-demand catalog. |
| Peacock plan choices | Select, Premium and Premium Plus are listed. | You can choose among ad-supported and mostly ad-free options, with exceptions. |
| Hulu plan-price comparison | The reviewed Hulu series page does not provide a complete, directly comparable tier and advertising breakdown. | Verify Hulu’s current price and features at checkout rather than relying on an inferred comparison. |
What exactly is being compared?
This comparison is about the original Law & Order series, not the entire franchise. The original show is the one associated with the opening narration about “the police, who investigate crime, and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders.” Hulu’s guide separately says Hulu subscribers have access to 24 seasons of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU), but that figure comes from a January 19, 2024 guide and should not be treated as the current count for either the original series or SVU.
When you search a service, check the exact series title and season selector. Franchise landing pages can place the original series, SVU and other spin-offs close together, while rights can differ by series and season.
Catalog comparison for the original series
Hulu: 20 seasons and 457 episodes listed
Hulu’s official Law & Order series page lists 20 seasons and 457 episodes as of the October 2026 access point. That is the strongest evidence for viewers who want to work through the original run or jump among many seasons without changing services.
The number is a service-published catalog display, not a promise that every episode is permanently licensed. Streaming rights can change, and the page may update without notice. Open the page, select the season you want and confirm that the specific episode has a play control before paying for a plan solely for that installment.
Peacock: nine seasons listed
Peacock’s official Law & Order page lists nine seasons. Because Peacock’s page and Hulu’s page present different totals, do not interpret Peacock’s nine seasons as proof that every other season is unavailable everywhere; it is the total currently displayed in Peacock’s catalog.
For a viewer who wants a particular season, Peacock can still be sufficient. The practical check is simple: open the Peacock page, use its season selector and look for the episode number or title you need. If the season is not listed, Hulu’s larger displayed catalog gives you a better chance of finding it in one subscription.
Why the totals are not a complete availability audit
Catalog counters are useful for choosing between services, but they do not establish simultaneous availability for every episode. Services can rotate licenses, present regional variations or alter a page while a subscription is active. Treat 20 seasons/457 episodes and nine seasons as the pages’ current displayed totals, not as permanent guarantees or a claim that every episode has identical playback terms.
How much does the catalog difference matter?
The headline gap is 11 displayed seasons: Hulu shows 20 and Peacock shows nine. Hulu also supplies an episode total, 457, while Peacock’s page in this comparison supplies a season total rather than a directly comparable episode count. That means you can confidently say Hulu’s displayed original-series library is broader, but you should not manufacture an episode-count ratio or assume that every season contains the same number of episodes.
Rank #2
For a complete-series marathon, the difference is significant because a Peacock subscriber may reach the end of its displayed selection sooner. For a casual viewer who watches only a familiar run, a favorite character arc or a handful of episodes, nine seasons may be enough. The right test is not only “Which page has the bigger number?” but also “Does that page include the season and episode I will actually watch?”
On-demand viewing versus live television
Standard on-demand viewing
On-demand viewing lets you choose an available season and episode whenever you want. For this use case, Hulu’s displayed 20-season, 457-episode catalog is the decisive advantage. Peacock’s nine-season listing may be enough for casual viewing, but it offers fewer displayed seasons of the original series.
On-demand access is also the easier option for binge-watching: you are not waiting for a broadcast slot, and you can resume an episode from the service’s playback interface. Availability still depends on the plan and the service’s current rights, so confirm the episode page before subscribing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHulu + Live TV for broadcasts and syndicated episodes
Hulu’s guide to streaming Law & Order says Hulu subscribers can watch select episodes on demand or stream new and syndicated episodes as they air on cable channels through Hulu + Live TV. Live content requires the Live TV plan. The guide also warns that regional restrictions and blackouts apply.
This is a different route from Hulu’s standard on-demand catalog. It is useful if you want to watch an episode at its scheduled broadcast time, follow syndicated rotations or use Hulu as a broader live-TV replacement. It is less predictable for a specific older episode because the schedule, channel carriage and local availability determine what you can watch.
The guide was published January 19, 2024. Use it to understand the distinction between on-demand and live access, then verify the current channel lineup, local availability, blackout rules and price on Hulu before subscribing.
Which route suits which viewer?
| Your priority | Best starting point | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Watch many seasons in order | Hulu on demand | Its page lists 20 seasons and 457 episodes. |
| Watch only episodes contained in nine seasons | Either service, after checking the exact season | Peacock may be sufficient if your target episodes are among its displayed seasons. |
| Watch scheduled syndicated broadcasts | Hulu + Live TV | The guide describes live and syndicated access through the Live TV plan. |
| Avoid paying for a live plan | Standard on-demand tier with the episode you want | Live TV is a separate route and is not required for ordinary on-demand playback. |
Peacock plans, prices and playback limits
Peacock’s Law & Order page displays three paid plans. The prices below are the amounts shown on that page in October 2026; they are volatile and may differ by promotion, billing date, taxes or location.
| Peacock plan | Monthly price shown | Annual price shown | Advertising and downloads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Select | $8.99/month | $89.99/year | Listed with ads. |
| Premium | $12.99/month | $129.99/year | Listed with ads. |
| Premium Plus | $19.99/month | $199.99/year | Described as no ads with limited exceptions. Peacock says some ads remain and not all content is downloadable. |
If you keep a plan for a full year at the displayed rates, the annual option is lower than paying the displayed monthly amount 12 times: Select would total $107.88 monthly or $89.99 annually; Premium would total $155.88 monthly or $129.99 annually; Premium Plus would total $239.88 monthly or $199.99 annually. The nominal annual differences are $17.89, $25.89 and $39.88, respectively. These are arithmetic comparisons of the listed prices, not a guarantee that the annual offer, taxes or promotions will remain unchanged.
Annual billing lowers the displayed yearly total but requires more money up front. Monthly billing may be preferable if you plan to watch a specific season and cancel afterward. Check the cancellation and renewal terms at checkout rather than assuming that an annual subscription can be ended for a prorated refund.
Do not read “no ads” as an absolute promise. Peacock describes Premium Plus as ad-free with limited exceptions, notes that some advertising remains and says downloads are not available for all content. If uninterrupted playback or offline viewing is important, inspect the plan’s current terms and the specific episode’s download availability.
What is known—and not established—about Hulu’s plans
The reviewed Hulu catalog page establishes that the original series is listed with 20 seasons and 457 episodes. It does not establish a complete, directly comparable current table of Hulu tier prices, advertising rules and download limits. That means a precise “Hulu costs less than Peacock” or “Hulu has fewer ads” conclusion would be unsupported from these pages.

Before choosing Hulu, open the series page and proceed to the current plan-selection or checkout screen. Confirm:
- the plan required for the episodes you want;
- whether advertising is present and what exceptions apply;
- whether downloads are supported on your devices;
- whether a Live TV plan is required for the viewing method you want; and
- the recurring monthly or annual charge, taxes and any promotional end date.
Because Hulu’s Live TV option is a separate product from ordinary on-demand access, do not assume that subscribing to a basic Hulu tier automatically includes live channels.
Choose by the way you watch
Choose Hulu for a broad episode marathon
Hulu is the straightforward pick if you want the largest currently displayed selection of the original series, intend to watch across many seasons or want the best chance of finding a specific older episode in one on-demand catalog. The 20-season/457-episode listing is substantially broader than Peacock’s nine-season listing.
Choose Peacock when its plan structure is the deciding factor
Peacock can make sense when nine seasons cover the episodes you want and you value a clearly displayed choice among Select, Premium and Premium Plus. Premium Plus is the only displayed Peacock tier described as having no ads, and even it has the stated exceptions and incomplete download availability. The plan may also be attractive if you already subscribe for other Peacock programming, since the marginal value is not limited to Law & Order.

Choose Hulu + Live TV for scheduled or syndicated broadcasts
Select Hulu + Live TV when your goal is to watch new or syndicated episodes as they air on included cable channels, not simply to browse an on-demand library. Check your location first: Hulu’s guide specifically notes regional restrictions and blackouts, and the channel lineup can vary by market.
Rank #4
Use a particular episode as the tie-breaker
If you are looking for one episode, season or storyline, catalog breadth alone is not enough. Search the exact title on both official pages, open the season selector and verify that the episode is playable under the plan you are considering. A service with a larger headline total is not useful if the one episode you need is excluded or unavailable in your region.
Consider your viewing horizon
If you expect to finish a short selection in a month, compare the current monthly charges and avoid paying for a year solely because the annual figure looks lower. If you expect to watch throughout the year, calculate the 12-month monthly total against the annual offer, then account for taxes, promotions and any plan changes. The displayed Peacock arithmetic favors annual billing, but the best value depends on how long you remain subscribed and whether you use the service for other shows.
How to check availability before subscribing
- Identify the series. Confirm that the page is for the original Law & Order, not SVU or another spin-off.
- Check Hulu’s listing. Visit Hulu’s official series page and note the displayed season and episode selectors. At the October 2026 check, it showed 20 seasons and 457 episodes.
- Check Peacock’s listing. Visit Peacock’s official page and look for your target season and episode. At the same access point, it showed nine seasons.
- Search the exact episode. Match the season number, episode number and title. Do not rely on a thumbnail or franchise search result alone.
- Decide between on-demand and live. If you need scheduled or syndicated broadcasts, review Hulu’s streaming guide and verify the current Live TV lineup and local restrictions.
- Verify the plan at checkout. Confirm recurring price, ads, downloads, device limits and any promotional terms. Peacock’s displayed prices are listed above; the reviewed Hulu page does not supply a complete comparable tier table.
- Check playback controls. If you need offline viewing, look for a download option on the actual episode. Peacock says not all content can be downloaded, so the plan label alone is not enough.
- Recheck immediately before payment. Catalogs and prices can change between the time you compare them and the time you subscribe.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming the franchise count is the original-series count
A search result for SVU does not expand the original series’ catalog. Keep the title, season count and episode count tied to the exact series page you are using.
Comparing Hulu’s on-demand catalog with Hulu + Live TV as if they were identical
Live TV adds a broadcast route with local restrictions and blackouts; it does not mean every episode in a syndicated schedule is permanently available on demand.
Treating a displayed price as permanent
Streaming prices, annual offers, taxes, promotions and plan benefits can change. Use the current checkout screen, especially if you are deciding between monthly and annual billing.
Assuming “ad-free” means every stream has zero advertising
Peacock’s Premium Plus description includes limited exceptions and says some ads remain. Read the current plan terms if advertising is a deciding factor.
Assuming every episode can be downloaded
Peacock explicitly says not all content is downloadable. Check the download control for the specific episode and device rather than relying on the plan name.

Forgetting local availability
A live channel or syndicated airing can be affected by regional restrictions and blackouts. If you are choosing Hulu + Live TV for one scheduled showing, confirm your ZIP-code or market-specific lineup rather than assuming that another viewer’s channel list applies to you.
Best Value
Paying for a plan without checking the target episode
A service can list a series while a particular installment is unavailable, restricted to another tier or temporarily absent. Open the episode page first, especially when one storyline is the reason for subscribing.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Can I watch Law & Order live on Hulu?
Hulu’s guide describes select episodes on demand and new or syndicated episodes as they air on cable channels through Hulu + Live TV. Live viewing requires that plan, and regional restrictions and blackouts apply.
Is Hulu cheaper than Peacock for Law & Order?
A complete current Hulu-versus-Peacock tier-price comparison is not established by the series pages. Peacock displays Select at $8.99 monthly or $89.99 annually, Premium at $12.99 monthly or $129.99 annually, and Premium Plus at $19.99 monthly or $199.99 annually at the October 2026 check. Verify Hulu’s current price and features at checkout.
Does Peacock Premium Plus remove every advertisement?
No. Peacock describes Premium Plus as having no ads with limited exceptions, says some ads remain and notes that not all content is downloadable. Read the current plan terms for the episode and device you will use.
Are Law & Order episodes downloadable?
Do not assume so from the plan name. Peacock states that not all content is downloadable. Check for a download control on the specific episode and verify Hulu’s current download rules at checkout if offline viewing matters.
Does Hulu’s 24-season figure refer to the original series?
No. Hulu’s January 19, 2024 guide uses that figure for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. It should not be substituted for the original series’ current count.
Which service is better for watching one specific episode?
Search the exact episode on both official pages, select its season and verify that playback is available under the plan and in your location. Hulu’s larger displayed catalog improves the odds, but the individual episode is the decisive test.
The Bottom Line
Pick Hulu for the original Law & Order if catalog breadth is your priority: its page lists 20 seasons and 457 episodes versus Peacock’s nine seasons. Pick Peacock when nine seasons are enough and its Select, Premium or Premium Plus choices suit your budget or existing subscriptions. Pick Hulu + Live TV only for the separate live or syndicated viewing use case, and always confirm the exact episode, local availability, advertising, download rules and current price before subscribing.
