Most PDFs downloaded on an iPhone are in the Files app. Open Files > Browse > Downloads. If you do not see Downloads there, check iCloud Drive > Downloads and On My iPhone; the exact location depends on where the file was saved.
Where to find a downloaded PDF
- Open the Files app. If it is not on your Home Screen, search for “Files” from the Home Screen.
- Tap Browse, then Downloads.
- If Downloads is not listed, tap iCloud Drive, then Downloads. You can also use the search field in Files to look for the PDF by name.
- Check On My iPhone for a copy saved locally.
Apple says Files can show documents and other files downloaded from the internet or a mail app. Its guide describes iCloud Drive for files that sync across devices and On My iPhone for files stored locally. If you downloaded the PDF in Safari
In Safari, tap the Downloads button beside the search field to see recent downloads and check whether a download is still in progress. This shortcut can help when you have not yet found the file in Files. Apple outlines the shortcut in its guide to finding downloads on iPhone or iPad.
Why a PDF may not be where you expect
A PDF viewed in a browser is not necessarily saved in the folder you expected. The destination depends on the action you took and, when saving to Files, the location you chose. Do not assume every PDF is in iCloud Drive: it may be under On My iPhone instead.

- If the download may still be underway, check Safari’s Downloads button for its status.
- If it has finished, search by the PDF’s name in Files and check both iCloud Drive and On My iPhone.
- If you remember choosing a folder when saving, browse to that destination in Files.
Save a Safari PDF somewhere easy to find
- Open the PDF in Safari.
- Tap the Share button, then Save to Files.
- Choose or confirm a destination, enter a name, and tap Save.
Apple’s Safari PDF download instructions describe this save flow. Choosing a known folder makes it easier to find the document later.
