Start on an Official Server, choose a dinosaur role that matches how you want to play, and treat Marks as a long-term build resource. Official Servers provide the standard rules and regional matchmaking, while Community Servers can radically change maps, statistics, mods, and progression. Your dinosaur grows by questing and surviving; abilities are unlocked with Marks and equipped from a Home Cave.
Path of Titans is a cross-platform dinosaur MMO for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. Supported platforms connect to the same servers, so friends can play together even when they use different devices.
What Path of Titans is
Path of Titans places you in a persistent multiplayer ecosystem rather than a linear campaign. You begin as a young dinosaur, complete quests, explore for resources, interact with other players, and gradually grow toward adulthood. Hunting other players can also contribute to growth, so travel and progression always carry some PvP risk.
Alderon Games describes servers supporting up to 200 players. Its product information also says that every dinosaur species has unique abilities and skills that let it occupy a niche in the ecosystem. That design is why there is no official, universally best beginner dinosaur: the right choice depends on the role and controls you enjoy.

The official press kit lists more than 30 dinosaur species (page accessed October 18, 2026). Species, maps, and available abilities can change as the game develops, so use the role guidance below rather than treating any list as a permanent tier ranking.
Official or Community Server?
Your first server determines the rules, progression environment, and social culture you will experience. Official Servers are the safest baseline when you are still learning movement, quests, combat, and the ability system.

Why begin on an Official Server
Official Servers use regional matchmaking, which gives you the normal rules and the simplest route into a populated game. Because there are no gameplay modifications, tutorials, ability descriptions, and advice written for the standard game are most likely to apply. Characters are shared across Official Servers, so changing to another official region does not create a completely separate ruleset.
Select the region closest to your physical location when possible. A nearby region generally gives you a more responsive connection than a distant one, although the quality of your home network and the server population at a particular time also matter.
When a Community Server makes sense
Community Servers are useful after you know what kind of experience you want. An owner might install a custom map, alter growth rates, add dinosaurs, change combat statistics, or run a special game mode. Some communities emphasize role-play or cooperative play; others may be designed around faster progression or frequent combat.

Read the server’s rules before creating a character. A server can define behavior that is not expected on Official Servers, and its custom settings can make a familiar dinosaur feel very different. Alderon’s development information says these servers remain browsable and selectable, while Official Servers use matchmaking. Do not assume a community server is active or well moderated without checking its current listing and rules yourself.
Quick decision
- Choose Official if you want the standard rules, regional matchmaking, and a straightforward learning environment.
- Choose Community if you specifically want mods, custom maps, altered growth, role-play, or a server’s own rules and social culture.
- Try both later if you want to compare standard progression with a specialized community without judging either one by the other’s rules.
Joining the right server
- Launch the game and open the multiplayer server screen.
- For the standard experience, select an Official Server region that is geographically close to you and use matchmaking.
- For a custom experience, open the community-server browser and inspect the server name, population, rules, map, and required modifications.
- Read the complete rules before entering, especially if the server advertises role-play, player-versus-player restrictions, custom growth, or special events.
- Enter with a dinosaur whose playstyle you understand. On a heavily modified server, confirm that the server’s settings support the role you want before investing time in growth.
If friends are joining, agree on the exact server first. Being on the same platform does not help if one person is using matchmaking on an Official Server and another is selecting a separate Community Server.
Choosing your first dinosaur
There is no official “easiest” starter species and no published win-rate table that establishes one. Each species is built around a different combination of movement, defenses, attacks, senses, metabolism, and group utility. Choose a role first, then select a species whose ability descriptions support it.

Use the ability descriptions as your tie-breaker
Two dinosaurs can fill a similar broad role while demanding very different habits. Compare their available attacks, defensive traits, senses, metabolism, and movement before committing. A fast species may suit you if you dislike being trapped; a tougher species may be better if you prefer holding ground; a support-oriented species is strongest when you enjoy watching teammates and reacting to threats.
Do not select a species solely because another player calls it overpowered. Balance changes, server modifications, and your own control preferences can matter more than a tier-list position. The official material supports role-based selection, not a universal ranking.
Questions to ask before creating the character
- Do I want to escape danger quickly or survive a fight head-on?
- Will I normally play alone, with one friend, or in a larger group?
- Do I want most of my routes on land, near water, or in the water?
- Am I comfortable managing stamina and positioning, or do I want a simpler, more forgiving routine?
- Do the listed abilities support the way I actually want to play?
Growth, quests, and death
Your character progresses from egg to adult. Quests, exploration, and other gameplay activities move you through growth stages while unlocking skins and abilities. Hunting another player is another stated way to grow, but it also exposes you to retaliation and a potentially dangerous fight.

Expect progression to involve route planning rather than a fixed sequence of missions. You will decide where to travel, which quests to group together, when to return to safety, and whether a visible player is a threat or a possible ally. Keep an escape route in mind before starting a quest in an unfamiliar area.
What death means on Official Servers
Permadeath is not enabled on Official Servers according to the official Gameplay FAQ. A death can cost time, interrupt a growth route, and force you to recover your position, but it does not permanently delete the character. This lets beginners learn combat and navigation without losing an entire dinosaur.
Community Servers can apply their own rules, so check their documentation if a server advertises special death, wipe, or progression mechanics. Do not assume an Official Server rule applies unchanged to a customized server.

Abilities, Marks, and slots
Abilities are traits or attacks that let you adapt a dinosaur to your preferred playstyle. You unlock them during gameplay by spending Marks, the progression currency earned as you play. Alderon’s development material describes the system as unlocking and swapping combat abilities over time as Marks accumulate.
How to equip an ability
- Earn enough Marks for the ability you want.
- Open the Character menu and enter the Ability menu.
- Review the available traits or attacks and choose the one that supports your role.
- Place an active ability into the appropriate ability-bar slot.
- Make sure you are inside a Home Cave when equipping or changing abilities; the game does not allow this equipment change everywhere in the world.
Plan a Home Cave visit when you expect to change your build. You can continue questing with your current setup, then return to make a deliberate change instead of trying to alter abilities during a dangerous expedition.

Servers with Growth enabled unlock additional slots at later growth stages. Early in a character’s life, you may have fewer places to equip abilities than you will have as an adult. Spend initial Marks on options that reinforce your chosen role rather than trying to cover every possible situation.

A practical Marks strategy
- Mobility build: prioritize movement, stamina, or escape options if avoiding fights is your main objective.
- Combat build: favor attacks, defenses, and tools that improve the kind of engagement you can consistently win.
- Group build: select abilities that help allies, communicate, or improve coordinated pressure.
- Water-oriented build: choose traits that make aquatic travel, pursuit, or retreat more reliable.
These are decision principles, not fixed builds. The best choice depends on the species, server settings, available slots, and the situations you encounter most often.
A beginner routine that avoids common mistakes
- Choose a nearby Official Server first. Learn standard rules before adding mods or custom settings to the variables you are trying to understand.
- Select a role before a species. Decide whether speed, defense, combat, support, or aquatic play sounds enjoyable.
- Read every ability description. Note whether an ability changes an attack, movement, defense, sense, metabolism, or social function.
- Keep your early route conservative. Group nearby quests and avoid crossing dangerous terrain solely for a single objective.
- Spend Marks with a plan. Buy abilities that solve the problems your role faces most often; do not spend them just because a new option appears.
- Return to a Home Cave for changes. Use the safe equipment location to review new slots and adjust your bar.
- Observe other players before engaging. A fight can interrupt growth even though Official Server death is not permanent.
- Reassess at each growth stage. New slots and abilities can change what your dinosaur can do, so update the build instead of assuming the hatchling setup remains ideal.
Playing with friends across platforms
The supported-platform list includes Windows 10 and 11, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. Alderon’s product information says supported platforms connect to the same servers, enabling cross-platform play.
How to meet in the same game
- Confirm that everyone is using a supported, updated version of the game.
- Agree on whether you are using an Official or Community Server.
- If using Official, select the same region so matchmaking places you in the intended area.
- If using Community, choose the identical server listing and install any modifications that server requires.
- Use the game’s player or social tools to group up after loading into the world.
Cross-platform support does not remove server differences. A console player and a PC player can play together when they enter the same supported server, but they will not automatically share a character or ruleset across unrelated Community Servers.
Controls and platform considerations
PC players can use keyboard and mouse, while consoles and mobile devices rely on their respective controller or touch interfaces. The most comfortable dinosaur is partly a control decision: precise movement and camera management may feel different on a touchscreen than on a gamepad or mouse.

If stamina management or rapid ability changes feel awkward, a more forgiving defensive or support role may be a better first experience than a species that depends on precise timing.

Common problems and fixes
“I cannot find my friend”
Check that both players selected the same server type and region. On a Community Server, verify the exact listing and required mods. On an Official Server, use the same regional matchmaking choice, then regroup through the game’s social tools.
“I cannot change my abilities”
Ability changes require a Home Cave. Return to one, open the Character and Ability menus, and place the selected active ability into the appropriate bar slot.
“I died and lost my dinosaur”
Official Servers do not use permadeath, so death does not permanently delete the character. Re-enter the world and resume the growth route. If you are on a Community Server, read its rules because custom death or wipe systems may differ.

“The server feels unlike the guides I read”
You may be on a Community Server with modified maps, statistics, abilities, growth, or rules. Check its description and rule page before troubleshooting the dinosaur itself. Switch to an Official Server if you want the standard environment.
“I do not know what to spend Marks on”
Identify the situation that causes you the most trouble—escaping, surviving attacks, finding resources, or supporting a group—and choose an ability that addresses that problem. Save enough Marks for a planned upgrade rather than buying options without a role in mind.
