Paper Rex (PRX) is not simply a team that rushes every round. Its recognizable edge is coordinated early pressure: fast contact, explosive space-taking and a willingness to contest areas before opponents are comfortable. The important comparison is how that pressure is built, how opponents prepare for it and whether PRX can change pace once its first idea is expected.
The short answer: PRX weaponizes pace, not chaos
Paper Rex’s identity is best described as fast, explosive and comfortable taking initiative early. Coach Alexandre “Alecks” Sallé explained that PRX is “slightly more fast-paced than other teams” partly because it uses two duelists more often than many opponents. He also said that explosive play can bypass a lot of defensive utility. That combination gives PRX a distinctive way to make the opening seconds uncomfortable: opponents must respect an early fight, an aggressive space grab and the possibility that two duelists will arrive together.
That does not make every PRX round a straight five-player sprint. Alecks has also said that very patient teams can punish a predictable attempt to run at them. Against such opponents, PRX has to slow down, preserve options and find another answer. The strategic distinction is therefore between pace as a recurring pressure and blind rushing as a fixed script.

DRX provides the clearest documented contrast. In a 2023 Pacific matchup, PRX player d4v41 said DRX repeatedly punished aggressive plays during the first 30 seconds. DRX player stax, meanwhile, acknowledged that PRX’s hyper-aggressive approach had influenced DRX’s own thinking. The matchup was an exchange of adaptations rather than a simple aggressive team versus a passive team.

That is why describing PRX as “all aim and no structure” is misleading. After a 2025 Masters Toronto playoff match, Sentinels coach kaplan described PRX as having an unconventional, rough reputation while praising its macro and strategy. The exact English wording was translated from a Japanese-language report, but the substance is clear: PRX’s unusual tempo does not mean it lacks a plan.
What “aggressive” means in a useful tactical comparison
Calling a VALORANT team aggressive is only useful when the term is broken into observable decisions. Five questions distinguish one aggressive style from another.
1. When does the first contact happen?
An aggressive team seeks an early duel, contest or space denial before the opponent has completed a default. A slower team may first gather information, establish utility control and force the attacker to reveal a route. PRX tends to move the decision point forward. The opponent has to solve a problem immediately instead of waiting for a late execute.

Speed is sustainable only when the first player has help. PRX’s two-duelist compositions can combine initiation, flashes, movement abilities and follow-up damage so that one player’s opening creates a second threat. The goal is not merely to win an isolated aim duel; it is to make the defender choose between multiple simultaneous dangers.
3. What happens after the first player commits?
Look for trade distance, utility timing and the number of teammates able to convert the space. A first contact that is immediately traded can still be valuable if it forces defenders away from a choke point or removes key utility. Conversely, a first death with no follow-up turns aggression into donated advantage. Public sources do not provide a verified PRX trade-rate dataset, so examples of conversion are more reliable than a claimed percentage.
4. Does the defense take initiative too?
A team can be aggressive on attack while playing conservatively on defense, or it can push for information and contest map control on both sides. The 2023 PRX–DRX account shows that early defensive choices were shaped by the matchup. The relevant question is not simply whether a team pushes, but whether its pushes are timed to deny the opponent’s preferred setup.
5. Can the team change speed?
Once opponents hold anti-push utility or sit ready for a first contact, repeating the same timing becomes predictable. Alecks identified very slow opponents, including FPX in the interview context, as especially difficult because PRX could not simply run at them. A complete aggressive identity therefore includes the ability to pause, fake pressure, regroup and attack a different timing.

How Paper Rex creates its distinctive pressure
Pace is the organizing principle
PRX’s early initiative compresses the defender’s decision window. A standard default may give a defender time to place utility, gather sound information and coordinate a response. PRX instead threatens to arrive before those steps are complete. Even when no duel occurs, the threat can force an early smoke, stall rotation or reveal a defender’s position.
This is different from treating speed as a permanent maximum. A fast first move can be followed by a pause, a regroup or a late hit. The value comes from making the opponent prepare for several timings rather than from sprinting every round.
Two duelists make the entry more explosive
Alecks directly linked PRX’s pace to its willingness to run two duelists: “I think it’s just slightly more fast-paced than other teams because we try to run two duelists compared to a lot of other teams.” He added, “It gives us the advantage being explosive can bypass a lot of utility.”
Two duelists do not automatically make a composition aggressive. They create the potential for synchronized entry, trading and movement that can cross a defended area before all of the opponent’s utility has value. The cost is that the composition may have less conventional utility or less forgiveness if the first contact fails. The exact agents and roster can change by map and season, so the tactical principle should not be treated as a permanent lineup rule.
Early contests create information as well as kills
An opening fight can reveal where defenders are positioned, which utility is available and how quickly a rotation arrives. PRX can use that information to decide whether to continue, pull back or attack elsewhere. A missed early duel is not automatically a failed round if it forces a defensive cooldown or exposes a pattern that the mid-round can exploit.
Pressure must be converted into map value
The strongest PRX rounds turn first contact into something durable: control of a choke, denial of a defender’s setup, a favorable trade or a rotation that opens another site. The relevant analytical question is what the team gains after the fight. Counting only opening kills would miss rounds where PRX wins space and utility without immediately producing a frag.
Slowing down is part of the identity
Alecks’ comments about patient opponents are important because they reject the idea that PRX has only one speed. If a defender expects a push and holds every countermeasure, PRX can delay, make the opponent spend attention on a fake threat and return to the site later. The adjustment may look less spectacular than an explosive entry, but it prevents the opponent from converting preparation into a guaranteed punish.

PRX compared with the documented peer examples
| Team or assessment | Distinctive pattern supported by the available reporting | What the evidence does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Paper Rex | Fast-paced, explosive pressure; frequent use of two-duelist ideas in the coach’s description; willingness to contest early space and sometimes bypass utility. | The older interview does not define every current map, composition or roster. It also does not provide a measured aggression rate. |
| DRX | In the 2023 Pacific matchup, d4v41 said DRX punished PRX’s early aggressive plays, especially during the first 30 seconds. Stax said PRX had influenced DRX’s approach. | This is matchup-specific historical evidence, not a universal description of every later DRX roster or series. |
| FPX | Alecks used FPX as an example of a patient opponent that waited to punish mistakes and made a simple run-at-them plan ineffective. | The interview concerns a past event and does not establish FPX’s current style. |
| Sentinels’ assessment | After the 2025 Masters Toronto playoff match, coach kaplan credited PRX with strong macro and strategy despite its reputation for unconventional, rough play. | This is an opponent-coach assessment after one event, not an independent statistical study. |
DRX: the clearest anti-PRX example
d4v41’s description is unusually specific: “DRX always punishes aggressive plays,” he said, explaining that during the first 30 seconds DRX often used the same kinds of setups to punish pushes. That detail points to preparation rather than superior raw aim. DRX was positioning early, retaining the right utility and expecting PRX to contest particular areas.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →At the same time, stax said PRX’s strategies had influenced DRX. This makes the matchup strategically interesting. DRX was not merely sitting back; it had adapted its own early-round behavior around the threat PRX posed. PRX, in turn, had to decide whether to keep contesting, change the timing or use the expectation of a push to create a fake.
FPX: patience as a timing counter
Alecks’ FPX example illustrates why patience can be more than passivity. A team that refuses to overreact to the first PRX movement denies the explosive composition the immediate target it wants. If defenders hold their utility and maintain crossfires, PRX may have to spend time clearing angles, create a slower execute or accept that its initial advantage has disappeared.
The counter is not “never fight.” It is to choose fights on terms that do not let PRX chain its entries. A patient defense can wait for the second player, isolate the first contact or force PRX to use movement abilities before the real execute begins.
Sentinels’ assessment: unconventional does not mean unstructured
Kaplan’s post-match comments provide a useful correction to casual descriptions of PRX. Macro includes how a team manages rotations, economy, utility, map control and late-round options. An unconventional opening can be part of a structured plan when teammates know which space is being contested, what trade is available and what the fallback looks like.

PRX may look improvised because its timing is unusual or because it takes fights other teams avoid. The presence of a plan should be judged by repeatable team behavior after contact, not by whether the first move resembles a conventional default.
What a PRX round looks like under the microscope
Opening phase: before the first 30 seconds
Start by recording the first meaningful contest: the location, which players arrived, what utility was used and whether the duel was planned or reactive. DRX’s documented success came from recognizing this window and preparing to punish it. A useful review asks whether PRX created a two-player threat, whether the defender had a crossfire and whether either side gave up information for free.

First contact: kill, trade or space?
Classify the result rather than labeling it simply a win or loss. A PRX entry can produce an opening kill, a traded death, forced utility, denied territory or no value. A defender can lose the duel but still win the exchange if PRX’s follow-up is stopped and the site remains intact.
Mid-round: continue or reset?
After the first contact, watch for a decision to continue pressure or disengage. Continuing makes sense when defenders are displaced, utility is low or a trade has opened a route. Resetting can be stronger when the opponent has stacked the area, preserved counter-utility or revealed an anti-push pattern. PRX’s ability to make that choice separates deliberate aggression from autopilot.
Late round: does early pressure leave enough resources?
Explosive entries can consume flashes, movement abilities and ultimates before the execute. A 2025 post-match report on a PRX loss to DRX quoted Alecks saying the team should have used ultimates better or played around them more effectively, and that DRX’s Ascent defense was difficult to break. That event-specific reflection shows the cost of forcing early solutions without preserving a way to solve the final site hold.
Defense: initiative versus information risk
On defense, an aggressive move may deny an attacker’s default, take a forward angle or force an early rotation. The risk is giving the attacker a free entry if the push is mistimed or unsupported. Compare the timing with the attacker’s utility, the escape route and the rotation distance. A push that is safe against one opponent may be reckless against a team holding specifically for it.

Advantages of PRX-style pressure
- It shortens the opponent’s preparation window. Defenders must make decisions before their preferred utility pattern is complete.
- It can overload a single angle. Paired duelists and chained utility create more than one immediate threat.
- It creates information early. A contest can reveal positioning, utility and rotation habits.
- It disrupts comfortable defaults. Opponents cannot assume that early map control will be uncontested.
- It can bypass some utility. As Alecks explained, explosive movement may cross a defended area before all utility has achieved its intended value.
Failure mode: predictable timing
If PRX reaches the same choke at the same second, defenders can pre-aim, layer utility and position a trade. The first 30 seconds then become a trap rather than an advantage. DRX’s reported approach is the clearest example of this preparation.
Failure mode: unsupported first contact
A duel is dangerous when the second player is too far away, utility is delayed or the retreat path is blocked. The right review question is not “Why did the entry die?” but “What team resource was supposed to make that entry survivable, and did it arrive?”

Failure mode: spending everything before the real fight
Early pressure can consume the flashes, smokes or ultimates needed to break a site. Alecks’ 2025 comments about ultimate usage against DRX show why resource planning matters. A team can win the first skirmish and still lose the round if it has no answer for the final defensive setup.

Failure mode: treating patience as surrender
A patient opponent is not necessarily passive. It may be preserving a crossfire, waiting for PRX’s second player or forcing the duel into a narrow angle. The best counter- aggression combines restraint with a prepared punish, which is why simply slowing down without a plan can give PRX free space.
What the available statistics can—and cannot—tell you
| Measure | Reported value and scope | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Riot Games Global Power Rankings | Paper Rex was listed first in the 2026 Stage 1 snapshot with 1,572 points and a 19–6 record (.760). G2 was second at 1,456, Nongshim RedForce third at 1,440 and NRG fourth at 1,431. | Use it as a relative-strength snapshot for that stage, not as live standings or proof of an aggressive style. |
| VCT Reference accumulated team record | 432 maps and a 110–52 series record, a 67.9% win rate, with the last listed map dated 2026-10-09. The page was accessed in 2026. | Use it as a third-party historical summary whose scope differs from the Riot stage snapshot. It does not measure early-round aggression. |
| VCT Reference round splits | 54.6% attack rounds and 52.3% defense rounds in the event context displayed by the page. | These rates describe round results in that page’s scope, not how quickly PRX makes contact or how often it pushes. |
No comparable current dataset in the cited material assigns PRX and peer teams an “aggression score.” Win rate, attack success and ranking points cannot substitute for timing, entry support or risk structure. A serious comparison should use round footage or event-level logs that record first contact, utility, trades and defensive initiative under the same definitions.
Current context and why dates matter
Riot Games’ ranking page is explicitly a 2026 Stage 1 snapshot. It is useful for showing PRX’s relative standing at that point, but it should not be presented as a ranking for every date in 2026. VCT Reference lists a later last-map date for its accumulated statistics, so the two sources measure different windows and should not be combined into one record.
Paper Rex’s official team page describes it as one of VCT’s longest-standing rosters and lists achievements for 2026, but the available page text does not provide a complete current roster list. That limitation matters when applying older coach interviews or 2023 matchup comments to a later lineup. The tactical identity may persist while agents, roles and individual execution change.
A practical framework for comparing any two aggressive VALORANT teams
Use the following checklist when reviewing a series rather than relying on labels such as “chaotic,” “disciplined” or “passive.”
- Mark the first contact. Record the round time, location and whether the team initiated or reacted.
- Map the support. Note which utility, movement ability or teammate position enabled the entry.
- Classify the result. Separate opening kill, trade, forced utility, space gained and no value.
- Track the opponent’s preparation. Identify pre-aims, crossfires, retained utility and repeated anti-push setups.
- Check the reset. After contact, determine whether the team continued, disengaged or changed sites.
- Evaluate resources. Count the utility and ultimates available for the final execute.
- Compare attack and defense. A team’s initiative may be much stronger on one side.
- Look for adaptation. Compare the second and third attempts after the opponent has shown its counter.
- Separate style from outcome. A lost round can contain a strategically successful space grab, while a won round can rely on an unsustainable mistake.
This framework explains why PRX can be both aggressive and strategic. The team’s signature is the pressure it applies early; its sophistication is visible in how teammates support that pressure, how resources are preserved and how the plan changes when the opponent refuses to give the expected fight.
Bottom line
Paper Rex differs from other aggressive VALORANT teams mainly through the speed and coordination of its early initiative. Two-duelist concepts, explosive entries and contested space make its opening rounds unusually demanding to read. DRX shows the value of disciplined anti-push preparation, while FPX illustrates how patience can deny a simple run-at-you plan. Sentinels’ assessment reinforces that unconventional tempo can coexist with strong macro.
