It may suit a kitchen where several cooking modes matter more than a fan-assisted convection oven. The main practical trade-off is that steam cooking requires filling and managing a 600 ml water tank. What does the Panasonic NN-DS59NBQPQ do?
Panasonic describes the NN-DS59NBQPQ as a four-in-one appliance: microwave, steam, grill and oven heating from top and bottom elements. Panasonic Australia lists a 27 L capacity, an inverter microwave rated at 1000 W, steam rated at 1100 W, and a grill rated at 1350 W on high. The oven temperature range is 30–220°C. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent cooking-test results.
The microwave has seven listed power levels: 1000, 800, 600, 440, 300, 270 and 100 W. Steam has two levels. Panasonic lists three grill settings; the medium and low wattages are approximate in its specifications.

Does the NN-DS59NBQPQ have a convection oven?
No. Panasonic lists top-and-bottom heater oven cooking, not fan-assisted convection. That distinction matters if you want a countertop appliance that circulates hot air for more even baking or roasting. The NN-DS59NBQPQ still offers an oven mode, but its published specifications do not identify a convection fan.

How do the combination modes and automatic programs work?
Panasonic lists six combination settings, bringing microwave, steam, grill and oven heating together in selected pairings. Examples include grill plus microwave, steam plus microwave, steam plus grill, and steam plus oven. The combination options can be useful when you want to use more than one heating method in a cooking cycle, but the available specifications do not establish how particular foods turn out.
Panasonic Australia lists 28 automatic programs, four cleaning programs and one-push reheat. Its product page also identifies Genius Sensor auto reheat. These are manufacturer-described features; the program list does not by itself show which settings are best for a particular recipe or portion size. Buyers who prefer manual control may use the power, temperature and combination settings instead of relying on automatic programs.

How does the steam function work, and how often will you refill the tank?
The integrated tank holds 600 ml. The operating instructions say to fill it before steam-combination cooking. If it empties during operation, the oven stops and prompts you to refill it; after refilling, press the dial to restart.

Preheating is available only for the steam-plus-oven combination. The need to fill, monitor and clean a water tank is part of the everyday workflow, so consider whether that extra step suits how you cook.

How big is the NN-DS59NBQPQ, and will it fit on a counter?
Panasonic Australia lists the appliance at 514 mm wide, 347 mm high and 456 mm deep including the handle. Its detailed specifications page lists a net weight of 16 kg; the product page lists 15.5 kg. Allow for the door, handle, ventilation and the clearances specified in the manual, rather than checking the countertop footprint alone.
The Australia specifications page gives an electrical supply of 230–240 V / 50 Hz. The model suffix and electrical details can vary by market: Panasonic Australia uses NN-DS59NBQPQ, while the manual and New Zealand materials also use NN-DS59NB as a base designation. Check the rating plate, local manual, warranty and seller listing for the exact country SKU before buying.

Panasonic Australia lists four cleaning programs, but program availability is not evidence of how much routine cleaning the appliance needs. Steam use adds a water tank to the usual care of a microwave and cooking surfaces. Consult the local manual for cleaning steps and installation clearances.
