Not necessarily. Panasonic’s documentation does not establish that every DMP-UB900 is region-free. The exact model suffix, market version and whether the player has been modified all matter. Check the label on your unit and get written, model-specific confirmation before buying it for discs from another region.
What “region-free” means for the DMP-UB900
A player can support a disc format without playing discs from every region. Panasonic lists Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D and 2D, and DVD-Video among supported media formats on its Japan product page. That distinction matters if, for example, you want to play a Blu-ray bought in another region or a DVD encoded for a different region. The available Panasonic materials do not establish the factory playback-region code for every DMP-UB900 variant, so the model name alone is not enough to confirm compatibility.
Why the model suffix and purchase market matter
Panasonic maintains different firmware support for the DMP-UB900P in the United States and variants for Europe and the UK. Its Europe/UK guidance says firmware for a different purchase region cannot be installed. Find the complete model number on the player’s product label, then match it to the manual and support information for the market where it was sold. How to check a specific player before buying
- Ask for the full model number. Do not rely on a listing that says only “UB900”; ask for a clear photo of the unit label and verify the suffix.
- Identify the disc’s format and region. A claim that the player supports Blu-ray or DVD formats does not answer whether it can play your particular region-coded disc.
- Ask whether it is modified. If the seller advertises it as region-free, request written confirmation of which Blu-ray regions, DVD regions and video standards it supports, and whether the claim applies to the exact model suffix.
- Check the terms before paying. For a used player, confirm its condition, return policy and whether the seller documents the modification and any warranty. Panasonic’s cited materials do not verify a third-party modification or guarantee.
- Do not use firmware as an unlocking shortcut. Panasonic’s region-specific firmware guidance does not establish that installing firmware from another market is possible or unlocks disc regions.
What to expect from an advertised modified unit
A seller may offer a modified DMP-UB900 as region-free, but that is a seller’s claim unless supported by clear, written details for the specific unit. Ask which Blu-ray and DVD regions are covered, whether DVD video standards are supported, and what happens if the player does not work with your discs. The Panasonic sources cited here do not confirm a particular modification service, method or warranty.

If cross-region playback is your main requirement and you cannot verify a UB900’s modification, consider a player sold with documented multi-region support. Confirm its supported Blu-ray regions, DVD regions and video standards before purchase rather than assuming that “multi-region” covers every disc.
Don’t confuse HDMI setup with region compatibility
Panasonic lists an 18 Gbps HDMI cable among the included accessories and specifies that bandwidth for 4K/60p. That cable is relevant to the video connection, not to disc-region restrictions; replacing it will not make a region-locked disc playable. Panasonic’s DMP-UB900 specifications
