If you can join your Palworld dedicated server by IP address but cannot find it in the Community list, the server is usually running correctly; its public-list registration or query traffic is not. Enable the -publiclobby startup option, restart the server, forward UDP 27015 for listing and UDP 8211 for gameplay, then search the exact server name after allowing time for registration. If direct IP joining also fails, troubleshoot the server process, firewall, port forwarding and possible CGNAT before working on the browser listing.
First, identify which connection path is broken
Palworld has two different ways to reach a dedicated server. Direct connection uses the server’s address and game port. Community browsing uses a public-list registration and a separate query path before the game connection is made. A server can therefore accept direct-IP players while being absent from the browser.
- Open Palworld’s direct-connect field and enter the server’s public IP address and game port.
- If the connection succeeds, the server process and gameplay route are probably healthy. Concentrate on community registration, the query port, exact-name searching and browser delay.
- If the connection fails, verify that the server is running, confirm its configured game port, allow the server executable through the firewall, forward ports to the host’s current LAN address and check whether the ISP uses CGNAT.
Pocketpair documents direct-IP joining and Community-server browsing as separate routes in its version 0.4.15 server documentation. Do not treat a missing list entry as proof that the game server itself is offline.
Enable Community listing with -publiclobby
A dedicated server started without the public-lobby option remains private. It is intended for players who know the address and port, not for discovery in the Community list. Pocketpair’s Community-server guide says to add -publiclobby at startup and restart the process.

Windows dedicated server
- Stop the running Palworld server cleanly.
- Open the launcher profile, shortcut, batch file or startup field used to launch the server.
- Add
-publiclobbyafter the executable. Pocketpair’s example isPalServer.exe -publiclobby. - Save the profile or script and start the server again.
- Wait for startup to finish before testing the Community list.
Linux dedicated server
- Stop the server process.
- Edit the command used by your service, shell script or game-server manager.
- Add the option to the command, following Pocketpair’s example:
./PalServer.sh -publiclobby. - Reload the service definition if your manager requires it, then restart the server.
- Keep the process running while you test from a different network.
The option must be present on every startup. Adding it once in an interactive command does not change a different service or launcher profile that starts the server later. If you use a graphical launcher, choose its Community or Public Server setting when that label is available; the setting should produce the same startup option.
Open both network paths, not just the gameplay port
Listing and gameplay are separate checks. The Palworld server-launcher FAQ identifies UDP 27015 for Steam query advertisement and UDP 8211 for actual gameplay. Forward both ports to the host computer’s current local address unless your configuration deliberately changes the game port.

Use the LAN address assigned to the host now, not an old address copied from a previous router lease. A DHCP reservation for the server PC prevents forwarding rules from silently pointing at another device after a reboot.

Allow the server through the host firewall
On Windows, allow the PalServer executable through Windows Firewall for the network profiles you actually use. If you created a port rule instead, make sure it permits inbound UDP for 27015 and 8211. A router rule cannot help when the operating system drops the packet after it arrives.
Test from outside the home network
A test performed on the hosting PC or on the same Wi-Fi network proves only local reachability. Ask a player on a different Internet connection to try the public address, or test through a mobile hotspot. Keep the external test separate from the browser search: first establish whether packets can reach the server, then diagnose registration.
Check for CGNAT before changing random settings
Carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT) places the router behind an ISP-controlled shared address. In that arrangement, port forwarding can be configured perfectly and still receive no unsolicited inbound traffic. This is a common reason that direct IP joining and list visibility both fail from outside.

Signs that CGNAT is involved
- The router’s Internet/WAN address is different from the public address reported by an external address-check service.
- The router shows a private or shared address on its WAN page, often in ranges reserved for private or carrier networks.
- Forwarding works for devices inside the home but no outside player can connect.
- Your ISP says inbound ports are unavailable or requires a special public-address add-on.
When CGNAT is confirmed, request a real public IPv4 address from the ISP if that service is available, or host the server on a network or managed service that accepts inbound traffic. Do not spend hours rewriting local firewall rules to solve an upstream NAT limitation.
Search in a way that survives a slow Community browser
The launcher FAQ warns that the server browser can be slow or unreliable and that many servers retain default names. Scrolling through pages is therefore a poor test.
- Give the server a distinctive name containing a short, uncommon word or phrase.
- Restart after enabling
-publiclobbyand after changing the server name. - Wait several minutes for registration and query propagation.
- Open the Community list and search the exact unique name, including capitalization and punctuation where relevant.
- Repeat the search from a player account that is not on the hosting machine.
If an exact-name search finds the entry but selecting it fails, the listing path is working and the problem is now gameplay reachability, firewall policy, NAT or platform compatibility. If no exact match appears while direct IP works, return to the public-lobby option and UDP 27015 checks.

Understand the Hairpin NAT limitation
Hairpin NAT, also called NAT loopback, lets a device inside your home network reach another device through the router’s public address. Some routers do not support it. Pocketpair states: “If your router does not support Hairpin NAT, you will not be able to connect to community servers hosted within the same network.”
This creates a confusing result: an outside player may see and join the Community server, while the host or a friend on the same home network cannot select it successfully. That does not prove that the public server is broken.
How to test around Hairpin NAT
- Have the local player use the server’s private LAN address for direct-IP testing, if the game and server setup allow it.
- Test Community browsing from a mobile hotspot or another external connection.
- Check the router documentation for a NAT loopback or Hairpin NAT setting.
- Keep local and external tests separate so a router loopback failure is not mistaken for an Internet-facing port failure.
Platform compatibility changes the required fix
Player platform determines whether direct IP is an option. Pocketpair’s version 0.5.0 documentation says community deployment is required for Xbox and PS5 players to join from those versions. The same documentation lists Steam, Xbox/Windows Store and macOS as cross-play-enabled platforms, while stating that PS5 cross-play is currently unavailable.

Consequently, a Steam player might bypass a missing listing with a direct address, while an Xbox or PS5 player can be blocked entirely until the server is deployed and registered as a community server. Check the game and server versions together; a platform statement tied to version 0.5.0 should not be generalized to later releases without confirmation.

Direct IP works, Community search fails
- Confirm that
-publiclobbyis in the command actually used to start the server. - Restart after saving the option.
- Forward UDP 27015 to the correct LAN address.
- Choose a unique name and search it exactly.
- Allow registration time and test from outside the host’s network.
- Check Hairpin NAT if only same-network players fail.
Direct IP fails from every external network
- Verify the server process is running and listening on the configured game port.
- Confirm UDP 8211 forwarding and the host firewall rule.
- Check that the router forwards to the host’s current LAN address.
- Compare the router WAN address with the public address to identify CGNAT.
- Repeat the test from an external connection, not only the hosting PC.
Outside players can join, but local players cannot
Prioritize Hairpin NAT. Use a LAN address for local direct-IP testing or an external network for Community-list testing. Changing public port rules will not add NAT loopback support to a router that lacks it.
The entry appears, but an Xbox or PS5 player cannot join
Verify that the server is deployed as a community server, that the client’s platform and game version are supported, and that the PS5 cross-play limitation documented for version 0.5.0 applies to the combination you are attempting.
When self-hosting is the wrong layer to repair
If you cannot obtain a public address, cannot control the router, need reliable uptime, or must support console players without exposing a home network, moving the server to a managed hosting environment can remove the CGNAT and port-forwarding dependency. Confirm the provider’s current Palworld version, supported platforms, community-list behavior and required UDP ports before migrating. Hosting does not remove game-version or platform restrictions, so those still need to be checked.
