Godlike.Host offers hosted Palworld servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
If Palworld says your admin password is not set or rejects /AdminPassword, the usual cause is that the password was placed in the wrong configuration file or the server was not restarted after the change. Stop the dedicated server, edit the active PalWorldSettings.ini under the saved configuration directory, set AdminPassword="your-password", save it, start the server, and authenticate in chat with /AdminPassword your-password. Keep ServerPassword separate: it controls who can join, not who receives administrative privileges.
What the Palworld admin password controls
AdminPassword is the credential Palworld uses to grant administrative privileges on a dedicated server. It is not the same as the password players enter to join. The official parameter reference defines ServerPassword as the join password and AdminPassword as the password used to obtain administrator privileges. Changing one does not change the other.

Palworld uses one shared administrator password for the server rather than separate named administrator accounts. Every person who needs admin commands uses that same value, whether authentication happens in the game chat or through a remote-console client (RCON).
The reliable fix, step by step
- Stop the dedicated server. Do this from the service manager, hosting panel, or the process console. Editing a file while the process is still running can leave the loaded configuration unchanged.
- Open the active configuration file. Edit
PalWorldSettings.iniin the saved configuration directory. On Windows dedicated servers, the path isPal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/. On Linux, it isPal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/. The directory is created after the server has started at least once. - Set the administrator value. In that file, add or change the setting to the exact form
AdminPassword="your-password". Replace the example value with the password you intend to use. Preserve the quotation marks and the setting name’s capitalization. - Save the file before starting the server. Confirm that the editor did not save a second extension such as
.txtand that you changed the file on the server that is actually running. - Start the server again. A restart causes Palworld to read the edited file. A browser refresh, reconnect, or map reload is not a substitute for restarting the dedicated-server process.
- Join the server and authenticate. Open the in-game chat and enter
/AdminPassword your-password, replacing the example with the configured value. The command is the in-game login step; setting the value in the INI alone does not authenticate your current player.
Test an ordinary administrator command after the login command. If it works, the password and the active configuration are aligned. If it does not, work through the checks below without changing unrelated settings.
#1 Best Overall
Make sure you edited the file Palworld is using
Use PalWorldSettings.ini, not the default template
A common mistake is editing DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini because it contains a similar list of parameters. That file is a template and does not apply a change to an already generated server configuration. The live setting belongs in PalWorldSettings.ini under the saved configuration directory.
If you cannot find the saved directory, start the dedicated server once, stop it cleanly, and then look again. The official setup guidance distinguishes the Windows and Linux directory names, so copying a Windows path into a Linux installation (or the reverse) will not reach the active file.

Servers are often installed more than once during testing, migration, or backup restoration. Confirm the service or panel’s installation directory before editing. If two instances exist, identify the one bound to the address and port your players use; changing an inactive copy produces no visible result.
Inspect the saved text, not only a panel field
Some management panels display a friendly “Admin Password” field while also maintaining the underlying INI. After saving a panel form, verify that it writes to the active configuration. Conversely, if you edit the INI directly, do not assume a panel’s unsaved value will be merged into it on the next restart. Use one authoritative method for the change and then inspect the resulting file.
Validate the setting and avoid password mix-ups
Use the exact key and value format
The parameter must be named AdminPassword. A misspelling, a different capitalization, or placing the value outside the server’s settings list can leave the old value in effect. The expected assignment is:
AdminPassword="your-password"
Do not remove the quotation marks used by the surrounding settings. If you are replacing an existing value, change only the text between its quotes unless the file’s format clearly requires another edit.
Do not substitute ServerPassword
ServerPassword is the password a player may need in order to join. It does not grant administrator privileges and it cannot be used with /AdminPassword unless you deliberately configured both settings to the same text. Keeping the two values distinct makes it easier to tell whether a failure occurs during joining or during administrator authentication.
Do not assume an undocumented password rule
Current official material does not establish a universal minimum length, maximum length, or required character class for AdminPassword. Do not rely on an alleged fixed rule as the explanation for a rejected login. First verify the active file, exact value, and restart sequence. If you need a controlled diagnostic, choose a temporary value that is easy to type and then replace it with your intended credential after the path is proven; treat that as a troubleshooting experiment, not as an official requirement.
Why a restart is required
The dedicated-server process loads its settings when it starts. Saving an INI while that process is running changes the file on disk but does not necessarily change the values already held in memory. The documented hosting workflow is therefore stop, edit, save, and fully start the server again.
Allow the process to finish shutting down before editing. If a panel reports “stopping” for an extended period, wait until it shows an offline or stopped state; otherwise a delayed shutdown may overwrite your edit with the old in-memory configuration. After the restart, join a fresh session and run the authentication command again rather than relying on a chat message from the previous connection.
Use the in-game authentication command correctly
Command syntax
After joining the target dedicated server, enter the command in chat:
/AdminPassword your-password
Replace your-password with the exact configured value. The command begins with a forward slash, contains no placeholder brackets, and must be sent to the server on which you edited the INI. A successful authentication should allow subsequent administrator commands; merely seeing the text appear in local chat does not prove that the server accepted it.
Shared credential implications
There is one shared admin password rather than a separate account for each moderator. Anyone who knows it can attempt administrator commands, so distribute it only to people who need that access and change it when the group of administrators changes. Changing the value requires the same configuration edit and restart sequence described above.
If /AdminPassword is still rejected
1. Recheck the active file first
- Confirm the setting is in
PalWorldSettings.ini, not only inDefaultPalWorldSettings.ini. - Confirm the directory matches the operating system:
WindowsServerfor Windows orLinuxServerfor Linux. - Confirm you edited the installation used by the running service, not a backup or staging copy.
- Open the file after saving and verify that the intended value is still present.
This check has the highest payoff because every later authentication method depends on the server loading this value.

2. Verify the process was actually restarted
A panel can return to a dashboard while an old process remains alive, and a manually launched instance can continue running after a second copy is started. Make sure the original process stopped before the new one started. If in doubt, perform a complete stop, wait for the stopped state, and then start only one instance.
3. Separate joining failures from admin failures
If the game refuses the connection before you enter the world, investigate the join password and connection method. If you can enter the world but the administrator command is rejected, focus on AdminPassword, the restart, and the exact chat command. Treating both passwords as one setting often sends troubleshooting in the wrong direction.
4. Retype rather than rely on an old chat message
After a password change, disconnect and reconnect, then type the command again with the new value. This ensures the message is sent to the current server process and avoids copying an old command from chat history.

Diagnose RCON separately
RCON is a remote-console access path, not an alternative spelling of the in-game command. The official settings list has separate parameters for it: RCONEnabled turns the service on and RCONPort identifies the port a client should use. RCON still uses the shared AdminPassword, but a correct password cannot help if RCON is disabled or the client is pointed at the wrong endpoint.
RCON checklist
- Confirm
RCONEnabledis enabled in the active server configuration. - Read the configured
RCONPortand enter that exact port in the RCON client. - Use the address of the dedicated server that is reachable from the client; do not assume the address used for a different service is correct.
- Enter the same value configured as
AdminPassword. - Restart the server after changing any of these settings, then reconnect the RCON client.
An RCON login failure therefore does not, by itself, prove that the admin password is wrong. It may indicate a disabled listener, an incorrect port, an unreachable address, or a client still targeting an older server instance.

Container images commonly generate the INI from environment variables instead of expecting you to edit a file inside a disposable container. In the documented mapping, ADMIN_PASSWORD supplies Palworld’s AdminPassword value and RCON_ENABLED supplies RCONEnabled.
Set the variables in the container or orchestration configuration that survives recreation, then restart or redeploy the container. Editing a generated file inside a running container may disappear when it is replaced, and changing a host-side variable without recreating the container may leave the old value active. After deployment, inspect the generated PalWorldSettings.ini when possible and authenticate from a new game session.
| Deployment style | Where to set the value | What reloads it |
|---|---|---|
| Windows dedicated server | Pal/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/PalWorldSettings.ini |
Stop and start the server process |
| Linux dedicated server | Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini |
Stop and start the server process |
| Container deployment | ADMIN_PASSWORD in the persistent container configuration |

When direct connection shows an empty-password error or times out
A password problem can be confused with a connection-listing problem. The official connection guidance distinguishes joining a dedicated server directly by IP and port from selecting it through the Community server list. A current hosting report documents a limitation in which password-protected servers may time out or display an empty-password error when reached through direct connect or a recent-servers entry, while joining from the Community server listing works.
Use the following branch when the server appears online but the password prompt behaves inconsistently:
- Confirm that the server is visible in the Community server list.
- Join it from that listing rather than from a saved recent-server entry or a direct IP attempt.
- Once inside the world, run
/AdminPassword your-password. - If the Community listing also fails, return to the configuration and restart checks; the listing workaround cannot correct an incorrect
AdminPassword.
This behavior is a reported connection-path limitation, not evidence of a universal Palworld password rule. It may vary with server version, client version, and hosting setup.
Choose the right fix for the symptom
| Symptom | Most relevant access path | First check | Reload needed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| You can join but admin commands fail | In-game chat | Active PalWorldSettings.ini contains the intended AdminPassword |
Yes; restart before retrying |
| The join screen rejects the password | Game connection | Whether you are using ServerPassword and the correct connection method |
Restart after changing the setting |
| RCON cannot connect | RCON client | RCONEnabled, RCONPort, server address, and shared admin password |
Yes, after configuration changes |
| Container keeps reverting the password | Container environment | Persistent ADMIN_PASSWORD mapping |
Restart or recreate the container |
| Direct connect times out or reports an empty password | Community server listing | Join from the Community list instead of direct/recent-server access | Only if the configuration was changed |
Use a hosting panel without losing control of the setting
Managed Palworld server panels may expose separate fields for the Admin or RCon password and automate the stop, save, and restart sequence. That can reduce file-editing errors, but the same distinctions still apply: the panel’s admin field must map to AdminPassword, the player join field must remain separate, and RCON needs its own enabled flag and port.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →When a panel reports that a password was changed, verify three states: the form value, the generated PalWorldSettings.ini, and the server process state. If those disagree, the process that players are reaching is not using the value you think it is. A panel cannot bypass an old process, an inactive installation, or a client pointed at the wrong RCON endpoint.
Prevent the problem on the next change
- Record which operating system and installation directory host the live server.
- Keep
AdminPasswordandServerPasswordlabeled separately in your notes or panel. - Change the active file or persistent container variable, never only the default template.
- Stop the server before editing and wait for a confirmed stopped state.
- After saving, start one server instance and test from a new player connection.
- For RCON, record the enabled state and port alongside the password so a port error is not mistaken for a credential error.
- After administrators change, rotate the shared password and repeat the full restart and authentication sequence.
The shortest dependable diagnosis is: identify the live configuration, confirm the correct key, restart the process, authenticate in chat, and only then investigate RCON or connection-listing behavior.
