The fastest reliable way to level in Palworld is to capture the first 12 examples of every Pal species you encounter, then combine that collection bonus with dungeon Alpha captures, exploration experience, and repeatable high-level content. Capturing advances your Paldeck while supplying party members and often beats simply defeating common wild Pals. In version 1.0, released July 9, 2026, exploration experience from some dungeon and enemy-base clears adds another reason to keep moving instead of farming one spawn forever. The level cap is now 80, not the old cap of 65.
What changed in Palworld 1.0
Older leveling advice can be misleading because version 1.0 expanded the game and raised the ceiling. Pocketpair’s July 9, 2026 release notes add 72 Pals, bringing the total to 287, and increase the player level cap from 65 to 80. A route that ends in the mid-60s is therefore incomplete for a current character.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- New cap: Player level 80.
- Expanded collection: 287 total Pal species, including 72 added in version 1.0.
- Exploration XP: Clearing some dungeons and enemy bases can now award exploration experience.
- Travel utility: Watchtowers reveal the surrounding map and function as fast-travel points, making a moving route more efficient.
- World control: The EXP Rate setting can be adjusted from 0.1 to 20 on worlds or servers where you have permission to edit settings.
Exact XP per action and time-to-level figures are not version-locked in a public, reproducible table. Treat activity rankings below as practical guidance rather than a promise that one action always gives the most XP on every platform, difficulty, or patch.
The leveling rule that matters most: capture 12 of each species
For the early and middle portions of a playthrough, the collection bonus from capturing multiple examples of a species is the foundation of efficient leveling. The current leveling guidance recommends capturing the first 12 examples of every Pal species you meet. Killing the same common Pal repeatedly may feel faster in the moment, but it does not build the collection, expand your roster, or provide the same cumulative benefit.

Why capture beats a simple defeat loop
- Captures contribute toward the species collection milestone.
- Captured Pals can immediately fill weaknesses in your active party.
- Extra copies can be assigned to base work or stored in the Palbox.
- Each capture can happen while you are already gathering resources, opening fast-travel points, or revealing the map.
The rule is not “stop at exactly 12 no matter what.” If a Pal is useful, rare, or easy to catch, continue collecting it for team or breeding needs. The efficiency point is that your first 12 should normally be captures rather than discarded opportunities.
A practical early-game capture circuit
- Leave your starting area with enough spheres and healing items. Do not spend every sphere on one difficult target; the goal is a broad collection.
- Target nearby species in rotation. Catch several of one species, then move to another instead of repeatedly defeating a single spawn.
- Activate watchtowers and fast-travel points as you travel. They shorten future trips and reveal nearby terrain.
- Gather materials along the same route. A circuit that supplies ore, wood, food, and sphere ingredients produces more value than an XP-only detour.
- Keep the strongest captures in your active party. Send duplicates and specialists you are not using to the Palbox rather than carrying an overloaded party.
- Return to the route after respawns. Use fast travel to connect several known areas instead of walking the entire circuit again.
When a capture is not worth forcing
A failed capture attempt can consume spheres, damage your party, and leave you exposed. If a target is far above your level or repeatedly breaks free, mark its location and return after upgrading your spheres, armor, weapons, or party. The collection rule improves efficiency only when the capture itself is reasonably repeatable.
Dungeon runs: combine several sources of progress
Dungeons are useful because one run can combine ordinary Pal captures, a final Alpha encounter, chest loot, exploration progress, and travel discovery. Their layouts and spawns are semi-random, and dungeons differ by tier, so compare them by the whole run rather than by one enemy’s XP.
Why the final Alpha matters
The dungeon reference reports that capturing the final Alpha Pal awards nearly twice the experience of capturing a non-dungeon variant. That makes the boss room the key decision point: if your spheres and survivability are sufficient, capture the Alpha instead of treating it only as a defeat encounter. “Nearly twice” is a comparative description, not a universal XP number; the exact reward can vary with the game version and settings.
Efficient dungeon procedure
- Choose a dungeon you can clear consistently. A lower-tier run completed safely can outperform a harder run that ends in a death or retreat.
- Enter with capture supplies first. Carry enough spheres for ordinary encounters and the final Alpha, plus spare healing resources.
- Capture useful Pals on the way. Do not ignore easy species if they are still short of their 12-capture milestone.
- Loot chests while moving toward the exit. Materials and schematics can advance technology and reduce the need for separate farming trips.
- Prepare for the final Alpha before opening the boss arena. Heal, repair equipment, and switch to a party suited to the encounter.
- Capture the Alpha when the attempt is reliable. If repeated breaks would consume your supplies, take the safer result and improve your equipment for the next run.
- Record the route’s real cost. Note approximate run time, healing use, ammunition, sphere consumption, and how often you must recover from a death.
How to judge a dungeon route
Do not call a dungeon “best” solely because its Alpha has a large reward. A useful route has short travel time, a high completion rate, manageable healing and ammunition costs, and loot that supports your next technology unlock. If a dungeon’s boss repeatedly defeats you, its theoretical XP advantage disappears when measured per minute of successful play.

Exploration and enemy bases now contribute to leveling
Version 1.0 explicitly adds exploration experience for clearing some dungeons and enemy bases. This changes the value of activities that older guides treated as optional sightseeing or loot trips. You can now make map expansion part of a leveling plan, particularly when the same trip also unlocks fast travel and gathers materials.

Build exploration into every journey
- Activate each watchtower you pass. It reveals surrounding map areas and serves as a fast-travel point.
- Open fast-travel points near dungeons, resource fields, and enemy bases before attempting a long farming session.
- Clear a base when your party can do so without a high chance of a wipe; the exploration reward is not worth repeated recovery time.
- Use the map to connect several objectives into one loop rather than returning to your base after every fight.
The official wording is limited to “some dungeons and enemy bases,” so do not assume every structure grants identical exploration XP. If a clear produces no visible progress, treat the activity as a combat and loot objective rather than counting on an exploration payout.
Mid-game plan: rotate captures, dungeons, and technology goals
Once basic survival is comfortable, the most efficient route is usually a rotation rather than a single farm. Capture nearby species until their early milestones are complete, run a dungeon that matches your current gear, and use the loot to unlock the equipment that lets you reach the next region.
A repeatable mid-game loop
- Start at a fast-travel point near several wild species. Fill missing collection milestones while your party is already prepared for the area.
- Travel to a suitable dungeon. Capture ordinary targets that still matter to your collection and collect chests.
- Attempt the final Alpha. Prioritize capture when your sphere supply and damage control make it realistic.
- Clear a nearby enemy base or unexplored landmark. This can add exploration experience and may provide materials for the next technology tier.
- Return through a watchtower or fast-travel point. Deposit duplicates, repair, craft spheres, and restock before the next loop.
This structure prevents a common waste pattern: spending long stretches farming XP while falling behind on spheres, armor, weapons, map access, or Pal collection. Levels are most useful when they unlock the next area and make future captures safer.
Late-game leveling: Oil Rig raids and legendary Pals
The current fan leveling guide places Oil Rig raids and legendary-Pal captures in the late-game route, citing Jetragon and Frostallion as examples. These are high-level activities, not guaranteed winners in an XP-per-minute contest. The recommendation is strategic: use them after your equipment and party can complete them consistently.

Requirements before attempting high-level content
- Armor that lets you survive the area’s incoming damage long enough to capture or finish targets.
- Weapons with enough sustained damage to avoid running out of ammunition during a long encounter.
- Spheres appropriate for the Pals you are targeting, with a reserve for failed throws.
- A party with complementary damage types, survivability, and useful work or travel abilities.
- A nearby fast-travel option and a recovery plan if the attempt fails.
When to choose a safer dungeon instead
If an Oil Rig or legendary attempt requires repeated corpse runs, expensive restocking, or long preparation, calculate its successful-run time rather than its headline reward. A dungeon you can clear repeatedly may deliver better practical progress because every minute produces captures, loot, and exploration instead of recovery. Move into high-level content when your clear rate is stable, not merely when you can survive one lucky attempt.
World Settings: the direct EXP shortcut
If you own the world or administer the server, the World Settings reference lists an EXP Rate slider from 0.1 to 20. Higher values increase experience gain. This changes every comparison in the guide, so record the multiplier when discussing your route or comparing results with another player.
Changing the rate in a world you control
- Open the world-selection screen.
- Select the world you want to edit and choose the option to change its world settings.
- Locate EXP Rate in the gameplay settings.
- Choose a value between 0.1 and 20, then confirm and launch or reload the world as prompted.
Menu wording can differ by platform or later patch, but the setting is part of world configuration rather than a character-only option. On a server you do not administer, you may not be able to change it. Increasing the rate is convenient for solo play or a custom challenge, but it also shortens the intended progression curve; state the chosen multiplier when sharing a build, route, or time-to-level result.
Which activity is fastest? Compare the whole loop
No version-locked public table establishes a universal XP-per-minute winner. Use the following comparison to choose an activity that matches your current level, supplies, and goals.
| Activity | XP role | Travel time | Failure risk | Consumable cost | Additional progress |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Capturing the first 12 of each species | Core early-game collection progression; exact XP per capture not stated | Low when rotating nearby species and using fast travel | Low to moderate if targets are appropriate to your level | Spheres and some healing | Pal collection, party expansion, Palbox options, materials gathered en route |
| Dungeon ordinary captures | Steady capture XP; exact value not stated | Moderate; reduced by nearby fast-travel points | Moderate and dependent on dungeon tier | Spheres, healing, ammunition | Chest loot, technology materials, exploration progress in some dungeons |
| Dungeon final Alpha capture | Nearly twice the experience of capturing a non-dungeon variant, according to the dungeon reference | Included in the dungeon run | Higher than ordinary captures | Better spheres and more healing may be required | Powerful capture, boss loot, dungeon completion |
| Exploration and enemy-base clears | Exploration XP is awarded by some clears in version 1.0; exact amount varies and is not published here | Can be efficient when linked to a travel route | Varies by base and region | Healing, ammunition, repairs | Map reveal, fast travel, base loot, technology progress |
| Oil Rig raids and legendary Pals | Late-game recommendation; no reproducible XP ranking published | Often high unless your route is established | High | High-level spheres, ammunition, healing, repairs | Rare or legendary captures and advanced loot |
For your own comparison, track four numbers over several successful runs: minutes per completion, supplies consumed, deaths or retreats, and useful loot gained. A route with slightly lower reward but near-perfect completion can be faster over an hour than a dangerous route with a higher reward per attempt.

Party, inventory, and route preparation
Keep a flexible active party
Use your strongest captures for difficult areas, but reserve at least one party slot for a Pal whose ability improves travel, gathering, or survival on the route. Collection progress is the priority early; later, replace weaker members as dungeon and legendary encounters demand more specialized damage and durability.
Carry supplies for the entire loop
- More spheres than the minimum needed for one target, especially before an Alpha or legendary attempt.
- Healing items and enough food to avoid returning halfway through a circuit.
- Weapon ammunition and repair materials for dungeon and base clears.
- Space for Pal captures, chest loot, and materials gathered during exploration.
Use the Palbox as an efficiency tool
Deposit duplicates after each circuit so your party and inventory remain manageable. Keep useful specialists available rather than selling or discarding them simply because they do not belong in the combat party. A broad roster reduces the time spent rebuilding a team when a dungeon’s enemies or a high-level Pal expose a weakness.
Common leveling mistakes and fixes
Defeating one common Pal for too long
Problem: The loop produces combat drops but leaves collection milestones unfinished. Fix: Rotate through nearby species and prioritize the first 12 captures of each before returning to a narrow combat farm.
Ignoring travel infrastructure
Problem: Long walks erase the value of a theoretically efficient farm. Fix: Activate watchtowers and fast-travel points while exploring, then connect dungeons, bases, and resource areas into one circuit.
Attempting content above your reliable gear level
Problem: A failed Alpha, Oil Rig, or legendary attempt consumes supplies and creates no repeatable XP rate. Fix: Drop to a dungeon or capture route you can clear consistently, use its loot to upgrade, and return later.

Comparing routes without stating the EXP Rate
Problem: Two players report different leveling speeds because their world multipliers differ. Fix: Record the EXP Rate value, platform, and relevant patch before comparing results.
Recommended Free Tools
Assuming every dungeon or base awards exploration XP
Problem: Version 1.0 says some dungeons and enemy bases grant exploration experience, not all of them. Fix: Check the actual progress change for the activity and value non-awarding locations for their combat, loot, or collection benefits instead.
Running out of spheres at the important encounter
Problem: Ordinary captures consume the supplies needed for an Alpha or legendary target. Fix: Set aside a reserve before entering a dungeon or high-level area, and leave when the remaining stock no longer supports a realistic capture attempt.
A complete progression checklist
- Set and record your world’s EXP Rate before judging a route.
- Capture the first 12 examples of each species encountered in accessible areas.
- Activate watchtowers and fast-travel points during every regional trip.
- Keep your strongest captures active and store useful extras in the Palbox.
- Run dungeons that you can complete repeatedly, capturing ordinary targets and the final Alpha when practical.
- Link dungeon runs with chest looting, material gathering, and technology unlocks.
- Clear suitable enemy bases and unexplored landmarks for combat, loot, and possible exploration XP.
- Measure routes by successful XP per minute after travel, healing, ammunition, repairs, and recovery time.
- Move to Oil Rig raids and legendary Pals only after your party, armor, weapons, spheres, and recovery plan are dependable.
- Remember that the current target is level 80; advice ending at level 65 reflects an older cap.
Bottom line
For most players, the fastest sustainable route is not a single enemy farm. Capture 12 of each accessible species while opening the map, use dungeons for ordinary captures and their high-value final Alpha, collect exploration experience from eligible dungeon and enemy-base clears, and shift to Oil Rig or legendary content only when it is repeatable. If you control the world, the 0.1–20 EXP Rate slider is the direct shortcut; otherwise, build your progress around captures, travel efficiency, and runs you can finish without costly failures.
