Dog Coins are a separate Palworld currency earned mainly by defeating or capturing Mimogs and by looting selected exploration activities. You cannot buy or craft them. Spend them at Medal Merchants, NPCs found in abandoned or ruined churches, on accessory-capacity upgrades, cosmetics, stat fruits and elixirs, and other version-dependent rewards.
The most dependable repeatable method is hunting Mimogs in higher-level regions. Loot junkyards, junk piles, Salvage Spots, Elemental Treasure Chests and Ancient Ruins along the way, and clear Base Raids when practical. Never butcher a Mimog for Dog Coins: the in-game description specifically says butchering does not award this currency.

Dog Coins are a special currency accepted by Medal Merchants. They are not the same as ordinary Gold Coins, and normal Gold Coin vendors do not accept them. Dog Coins also cannot be purchased from a merchant or crafted at a workbench. You must obtain them through exploration, combat or capture.
The item description reproduced by the Palworld Wiki reads: “A mysterious coin. Apparently there are people who collect these. A Mimog will usually have them, but for some reason, they cannot be obtained by butchering it.” That description explains both the main source and the most important mistake to avoid.

- Gold Coins: The ordinary money used by regular merchants.
- Crafting: Neither currency can be assumed to substitute for the other, and Dog Coins have no listed crafting recipe.
Because Dog Coins are tied to a special merchant and to several exploration activities, treat them as a long-term upgrade currency rather than money for routine purchases.
Every confirmed way to get Dog Coins
Defeat or capture Mimogs
Mimogs are the most dependable repeatable source. You can earn Dog Coins by defeating or capturing them; the source description does not require one approach over the other. Higher-level Mimogs generally provide better returns. PalDB’s 2026 game-data listing for its high-level Mimog entry reports a 100% drop chance of 170–250 Dog Coins, with an average of 210. That is an extracted data point for the listed entry, not a permanent promise for every Mimog, region or future patch.

If you are collecting the currency, do not use the butcher option afterward. Butchering a Mimog does not grant Dog Coins, even though the creature normally carries them. This is the clearest way to lose the expected reward.
Loot junkyards and junk piles
Junkyards and junk piles can contain Dog Coins. The farming reference indicates that higher-level areas generally offer better returns, so inspect these containers while moving through more difficult regions instead of making a special trip only to low-level areas. Their contents are loot-based, so an individual container should not be treated as a guaranteed payout.
Salvage Salvage Spots
Both basic and advanced Salvage Spots can produce Dog Coins. Advanced spots give considerably more according to the current wiki guidance. Salvage Spots were not always a source: the version history records their addition in version 0.6.0. If an older guide says salvage never provides Dog Coins, it may be describing an earlier build.
Open Elemental Treasure Chests
Elemental Treasure Chests are another documented source. Open them whenever you encounter one during normal exploration. The available item documentation confirms the source but does not establish one universal quantity for every chest, element or region, so do not plan a fixed number of coins per chest.

Loot Ancient Ruins
Ancient Ruins currently yield Dog Coins in the wiki entry. The version history records this route as added in version 1.0.0. Ruins therefore provide a useful reason to include ruin runs in an exploration circuit, particularly when you are already traveling through a region with Mimogs, junk piles or salvage locations.
Defeat Base Raids
Base Raids are also listed as a source, and the version history dates their addition to version 1.0.0. A raid should be viewed as an activity with its own objectives that can also contribute Dog Coins, rather than as a guaranteed replacement for Mimog hunting. The documented material does not establish one fixed coin amount for every raid.
Which method is fastest?
For repeatable farming, prioritize Mimogs in higher-level regions. They are the only source in the available data with a reported per-creature range, and they can be deliberately sought out. The PalDB figure of 170–250 coins, average 210, comes from its 2026 extraction of a high-level entry with a 100% drop chance. Game updates can change that data, so use it as a planning estimate rather than a permanent rate.
Combine targeted hunting with opportunistic looting. A practical route has three layers:

- Choose a high-level region where Mimogs are present. Higher-level Mimogs are associated with better returns, so avoid spending an entire session in beginner areas if your goal is currency.
- Defeat or capture each Mimog. Do not butcher it afterward. Confirm the Dog Coins are added before leaving the encounter area.
- Search containers and activities on the way. Open junkyards, junk piles and Elemental Treasure Chests; harvest Salvage Spots, especially advanced ones; and enter Ancient Ruins when they fit the route.
- Handle Base Raids when they are available and worthwhile. They add another documented source without requiring a separate currency activity.
This mixed approach reduces empty travel. Mimog hunting supplies the repeatable core, while containers, salvage, ruins and raids turn travel time into additional chances. Do not assume every activity has the same payout or that a container is guaranteed to contain coins.
How to avoid losing a Mimog payout
Use the correct end condition
The item description says Mimogs usually have Dog Coins, but explicitly excludes butchering. Defeat or capture the Mimog instead. If you are using a capture-focused setup, the reward comes from the successful capture; if you are fighting it directly, let the defeat resolve normally.

Do not confuse the currencies
Dog Coins may appear alongside other loot, but they are not a replacement for Gold Coins. A regular merchant’s Gold Coin prices do not tell you how many Dog Coins you need, and selling ordinary items for Gold Coins will not create Dog Coins.
Expect patch-sensitive yields
The 170–250 range and 210 average reported by PalDB apply to its listed high-level Mimog entry and are dated to 2026. They should not be copied as a universal rate for every encounter. The same caution applies to unreported quantities from containers, salvage, ruins and raids.

Find a Medal Merchant
Medal Merchants are a distinct NPC type located in abandoned or ruined churches. They accept Dog Coins and offer rewards that ordinary Gold Coin vendors do not. When you are ready to spend, search these church locations rather than checking a standard merchant stall.
The exact inventory can vary with the game version. The documented sources establish reward categories, but they do not provide one official, permanent price list that applies to every platform and patch. Open the merchant’s current shop screen in your build before farming toward a specific price.
Check the shop before committing your balance
- Travel to an abandoned or ruined church where a Medal Merchant is present.
- Open the merchant interaction and inspect the current stock and listed Dog Coin prices.
- Note whether the item is a permanent upgrade, a consumable, a cosmetic or gear that duplicates something you already own.
- Leave enough coins for a higher-priority item if the shop offers several choices and your balance is limited.
What Medal Merchants can sell
The following categories are documented, but individual names, stock and prices are version-sensitive.

“Mystery Accessory Box” describes the documented capacity-upgrade category, not a guaranteed universal item name or price in every build. Likewise, rare gear and schematic availability is described as later-version stock rather than a promise that every Medal Merchant has every item at once.

How to choose your first purchase
Use two questions: is the benefit permanent or consumable, and is the item uniquely available here or replaceable elsewhere?
Choose lasting utility when your build needs room
Accessory-capacity upgrades are compelling because they address a permanent loadout constraint. If you routinely have to remove an accessory to equip another useful effect, additional capacity can benefit every later activity. Confirm the current box and its price in the merchant window before farming, because the shop table can change.
Choose stat fruits or elixirs for a defined progression plan
Stat fruits and elixirs make sense when you know which character or Pal improvement you are pursuing and can use the consumable immediately. Their value is front-loaded: once consumed, the effect is spent. Avoid buying a consumable merely because you have enough coins if you are still saving for a permanent capacity upgrade.
Choose cosmetics for appearance
Cosmetic hats and other Pal-themed headwear are preference purchases. They can be the right choice for a collection or a themed character, but they do not provide the lasting combat or capacity benefit of an upgrade category.
Compare rare gear with normal acquisition routes
Rare gear and schematics can be expensive. Before buying, compare the merchant listing with what you can already obtain through ordinary exploration and crafting. A unique schematic may justify a high price; a piece of gear that duplicates equipment you already use may not. The current shop description, not an old guide, should determine the final decision.

The Palworld Wiki records these changes in its current, undated entry. Since the entry is maintained over time and the game continues to receive updates, verify the reward and price shown in your own build when a route or item matters to your plan.
Common mistakes and fixes
“I butchered the Mimog and received nothing.”
This is expected for Dog Coins. The item description specifically says they cannot be obtained by butchering. Hunt the next Mimog and defeat or capture it instead.
“A normal merchant does not accept my coins.”
Check the currency type. Dog Coins are for Medal Merchants, not ordinary Gold Coin vendors. Locate a Medal Merchant in an abandoned or ruined church.
“An old guide says Salvage Spots, ruins or raids do not work.”
Check the guide’s version. Salvage Spots were added as a Dog Coin source in 0.6.0, while Ancient Ruins and Base Raids were added in 1.0.0. A pre-change guide can be accurate for its publication build and still be obsolete now.
“The merchant’s prices do not match a table I found.”
Prices and stock are version-sensitive. Use the current in-game shop as the authority for your platform and patch. The available documentation does not establish one permanent list for every release.

“My Mimog payout is not exactly 210.”
The 210 figure is the average of a 170–250 range for a high-level entry in PalDB’s 2026 game-data listing. It is not a guaranteed amount per encounter or a universal rate for all Mimogs.
A practical Dog Coin checklist
- Confirm that you are collecting Dog Coins rather than Gold Coins.
- Prioritize Mimogs in higher-level regions for repeatable farming.
- Defeat or capture Mimogs; never butcher them for this currency.
- Loot junkyards and junk piles during travel.
- Harvest Salvage Spots, with advanced spots offering considerably more according to the wiki guidance.
- Open Elemental Treasure Chests.
- Include Ancient Ruins and Base Raids when your build contains those routes.
- Visit a Medal Merchant in an abandoned or ruined church.
- Inspect the current inventory and prices before deciding what to buy.
- Favor permanent utility for long-term loadouts, consumables for a defined stat plan, and cosmetics for appearance.
- Recheck quantities, stock and prices after major updates.
Bottom line
Farm Mimogs by defeating or capturing them, supplement the hunt with every documented exploration source, and protect the payout by avoiding butchering. Spend the currency only at Medal Merchants, then choose between permanent accessory capacity, targeted consumables, cosmetics and rare gear based on your current build and the shop’s live inventory. Because both yields and stock can change with updates, the in-game merchant screen and your current patch take precedence over any old price list.
