Palantir Technologies and the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (Mopac) have withdrawn their allegations against each other, ending a High Court dispute over the Metropolitan Police’s proposed data-analysis contract. The settlement closes the lawsuit but does not give Palantir the contract: the company remains in the tender process, with a decision reported for spring 2027.
What was settled on 14 October 2026?
Palantir and Mopac jointly ended the legal case by withdrawing allegations against one another. The High Court hearing had been scheduled for January, but it will no longer take place. The agreement resolves the dispute over how the procurement intervention was made; it does not determine which supplier will ultimately serve the Metropolitan Police.
The settlement also clarified the reason for Mopac’s May 2026 decision. Its joint statement said the decision “was not based on Palantir’s values or ethics or any wider reporting about the company.” Mopac acknowledged that earlier media reporting of a statement by a mayoral spokesperson could have wrongly suggested that an assessment of Palantir’s values had influenced the decision.
Sadiq Khan said: “London is the technology capital of Europe, and I am proud that leading software firms choose the city as their home.”

What contract was at the centre of the dispute?
The proposed agreement was a two-year contract worth up to £50 million, according to ITV News London’s 2026 reporting. It would have supplied the Metropolitan Police with Palantir’s Unified Operational Analytics (UOA) system.
UOA was intended to automate intelligence analysis used in criminal investigations. In practical terms, the proposed system would support the handling and analysis of information generated during investigations, rather than represent a completed award to Palantir.

Why did Khan’s office block the proposed deal?
Mopac said the Metropolitan Police had not submitted its procurement strategy for approval. It also said the force had seriously considered Palantir as the only supplier. Mopac described that situation as a “clear and serious breach” of procurement procedure.

What the stated reason was not
The settlement’s wording is important because it separates procurement concerns from an assessment of Palantir’s corporate values or ethics. The joint clarification says those issues, and wider reporting about the company, were not the basis of the May decision.

Did Palantir win the £50 million police deal?
No. The figure describes the proposed two-year contract’s maximum reported value, not money awarded to Palantir. Ending the lawsuit does not select a supplier, authorize payments or restore the earlier proposal automatically.

Palantir remains eligible to compete in the Met’s procurement. ITV News London reported that a decision is expected in spring 2027, so the eventual supplier and final contract terms remain open.

What happens to the Met procurement now?
- The High Court case ends: The mutual withdrawal removes the scheduled January hearing and concludes the legal challenge.
- The tender continues: Palantir remains part of the bidding process rather than receiving an automatic award.
- A later selection is expected: The reported timetable points to a procurement decision in spring 2027.
- The final deal may differ: Until the Met completes the process, the winning supplier, scope, price and implementation terms cannot be treated as settled.
Why the settlement matters for public-sector technology
The dispute highlights the difference between a technology need and a lawful purchasing route. A police force may seek advanced analytics for investigations, but the authority overseeing it still has to approve the procurement strategy and demonstrate that competition and value for money have been considered.
