If you need Pakistani mutual fund NAVs in code, the free project described by Saad Salman is a self-hosted scraper and Express API that reads MUFAP’s public Fund Directory and serves a JSON snapshot. It is a practical option if you can deploy and maintain it; it is not a vendor-managed service or a guarantee of fresh data. Does MUFAP have a public API for mutual fund NAVs?
MUFAP provides public web pages rather than a documented public API in the sources covered here. Its Fund Directory lists fund names, asset management companies (AMCs), NAV, offer price, category, and risk profile. The NAV / Daily Prices Announcement shows a report date and individual NAV validity dates.
Those pages are the primary source to consult when confirming a value. A number in a scraper’s saved JSON file may reflect its last successful retrieval, not the latest MUFAP announcement. The official page’s displayed dates and values change over time; for example, the page showed an October 7, 2026 report date during the period covered by the source material, with some NAV validity dates of October 6. Treat those as dated examples, not current figures.
Why did Saad Salman build a separate API?
Salman says he found apparent JSON endpoints behind MUFAP’s directory page, but requests copied from a browser returned HTTP 500 when made outside a browser. He suggests that session handling or an anti-forgery token might explain the behavior, while describing that as a best guess rather than a diagnosis. This is the author’s account; it has not been independently reproduced here. Read his explanation in his project article.

Instead of relying on those endpoints, he describes a scraper that reads MUFAP’s public directory, saves the parsed data as JSON, and serves it through a small Express application. The approach avoids dependence on an undocumented endpoint, but it still depends on the public page remaining parseable and accessible.
What the free project provides
Current fund snapshot
In the article’s initial description, the scraper uses Cheerio to parse fund name, AMC, NAV, offer price, and category. The Express service exposes a GET /api/funds endpoint, with permissive CORS, and reads from a plain JSON snapshot. Salman describes running it locally at localhost:4000/api/funds; this is his documented setup, not an independently tested instruction.

Refreshes and history
Salman says MUFAP publishes updated NAVs once per business day and describes the project’s default refresh as daily, skipping weekends. His later update describes per-fund NDJSON NAV histories and a GET /api/funds/:id/history endpoint with date bounds. That can be useful for code that needs prior NAV observations as well as a current snapshot, but freshness depends on the scraper’s actual successful runs and the data available in the project’s current dataset.

The article’s updates also describe single-fund lookup, category, AMC, and name filters, Shariah flags, benchmark mappings, expense-ratio enrichment, and a daily public dataset. These are features reported in the article, not a guarantee that every field or endpoint is present in every current deployment. Check the project repository for the implementation and dataset as they stand before building a dependency on a particular field.

Salman presents the project as MIT-licensed and intentionally narrow: a self-hosted way to obtain MUFAP-sourced NAV data as JSON, rather than a full market-data service with promised uptime. His article gives different scale figures in different project updates: 500+ funds in its description, 531 in a comparison, 549 alongside Shariah metadata, and 554 in an update about the backfilled dataset. It also reports 432,000 history entries for that backfill. These are attributed, dated article figures for different project components or stages, not one current verified count.

The free API shifts infrastructure responsibility to the user. Before using it in an application, plan for the following:

- Monitoring: Record when each scrape succeeds and when the data was last updated. Do not treat a successful API response as proof that its NAVs are current.
- Parser maintenance: The scraper reads a public web page, so a change to MUFAP’s markup or access behavior can break extraction. Compare parsed records with the directory and daily announcement page.
- Historical data care: Keep backups of any history you need. A local snapshot or NDJSON history is only as complete as the scraper’s collection and storage.
- Operational safeguards: Decide how your application behaves when the source is unavailable, a scrape fails, or a field is missing. Surface the data timestamp and avoid silently presenting stale values as current.
The repository and article are the appropriate places to check implementation details; neither source establishes a guaranteed uptime commitment for the project.

How to use NAV data responsibly
Keep the source’s validity date alongside the NAV rather than storing a number alone. NAVs are time-specific, and an API snapshot can lag its source. For financial calculations, reconcile the data used by your application with MUFAP’s announcement and retain enough provenance to identify the fund and observation date.
