The current “P.T. PC port” is a fan-made native PC project, not an official Konami release and not simply another Unreal-style recreation. Its README says the game logic was rebuilt in C++, while the levels, models, textures, sounds, scripts and cutscenes are loaded from the player’s own copy of the 2014 PS4 teaser. The project aims to preserve the original behavior, then adds optional PC features such as configurable controls, modern display options, photo mode and mod support.
The short answer
There are three different things people may mean when they say “P.T. on PC”: the original PS4 build run on its intended hardware, the newer native PC port project, and older fan recreations that rebuilt the hallway and events from scratch. Those are not interchangeable.
The native port is materially closer to the PS4 demo than a conventional remake because it uses the original game data supplied by the player. It does not emulate a PlayStation 4, and it does not ship Konami’s assets. Instead, its code recreates the game’s behavior for Windows, Linux and macOS and uses a Vulkan renderer. The project documentation says its default settings are intended to match the original, while optional enhancements can be enabled when you want a more flexible PC experience.

What the original P.T. demo was
P.T. was released as a PlayStation Store playable teaser associated with Silent Hills. It was designed as a short, looping first-person experience rather than a conventional full game. The teaser’s distribution period was time-limited. An official P.T. website notice, reported by Game Informer on April 25, 2015, said distribution would expire on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.
On May 6, 2015, Game Informer reported Konami’s confirmation that P.T. had been removed from the PlayStation Store. The representative described it as a playable teaser for a project associated with Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus and said that project had been cancelled. That history explains why modern PC projects are preservation efforts rather than ports of an actively sold PC edition.
The delisting date does not by itself establish the status of every console, account or preservation method today. It only records the Store distribution and Konami’s later confirmation that the teaser had been removed.
What the native PC project actually is
It is a port, not emulation
The project README calls it “a native PC port of P.T., the 2014 PS4 teaser by Kojima Productions.” Its implementation rebuilds the game logic in C++ and runs that logic through a Vulkan renderer. In practical terms, the computer is executing a PC program rather than pretending to be a PS4 and running the original executable inside an emulator.
It uses original game data supplied by the player
The port does not provide the content needed to play by itself. According to the README, levels, models, textures, sounds, scripts and cutscenes are read at runtime from the user’s copy of the PS4 game. Neither the repository nor its installer includes those files. This is the key distinction from a recreation that models a similar hallway and writes replacement scripts.

Because the project depends on external game data, installing the PC executable alone will not produce a playable copy. You need a compatible set of P.T. files and must follow the project’s documented platform-specific setup procedure to make those files available to the build. Use only data you are entitled to use; the project’s README does not transfer ownership of Konami’s material or provide a general license.
It is not an official Konami PC release
The README explicitly says that P.T. is the work of Kojima Productions, is owned by Konami, and that the fan project is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to either company. There is no current official physical PC edition identified in the available material. A generic PC game disc is therefore not the purchase the project describes as necessary; the documented requirement is your own PS4 game data.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat you need before installing
- A supported computer platform: the project documents builds for Windows, Linux and macOS.
- Your own P.T. game data: the port reads the original files at runtime and does not bundle them.
- A compatible release: the documentation identifies the US release as tested. European and Japanese releases are reported to install with a note that the developer has not seen their data, so compatibility is not guaranteed for those versions.
- A graphics stack capable of running Vulkan: the port uses a Vulkan renderer. The documentation does not provide universal CPU, GPU, RAM or storage numbers, so hardware suitability depends on the machine and platform build.
- Input hardware: keyboard and mouse are supported, and gamepads are supported. A microphone is optional for the documented voice-trigger interaction because another input can be assigned.
Installation and first-run approach
The exact folder names and package steps can change as the project is updated, so use the README that accompanies the build you download. The reliable workflow is:
- Choose the build for your operating system. Windows, Linux and macOS packages are described separately, and a feature available on one platform may depend on hardware or platform support on another.
- Prepare a legitimate copy of the PS4 data. The project cannot start from the installer alone. Confirm that your files correspond to a release the project recognizes; the US version is the one the documentation says was tested.
- Complete the README’s data-location step. The build must be able to find the original levels, models, textures, sounds, scripts and cutscenes at runtime. Do not expect the installer to download or reconstruct those files.
- Launch with the original defaults first. Leave enhancements disabled or at their original-value settings while checking that the hallway loads, subtitles appear correctly and the control scheme responds.
- Configure input. Select mouse-and-keyboard controls or connect a gamepad. If the microphone-dependent sequence is inconvenient, assign the documented keyboard key or controller trigger alternative.
- Add optional features only after the baseline works. Upscalers, photo mode, free camera, language changes and mods can make troubleshooting harder. Enable one change at a time so you can identify a compatibility problem.
This procedure deliberately avoids inventing fixed paths or commands: the available documentation describes setup routes by platform but does not establish one permanent directory layout for every release.
Controls and the microphone question
The PS4 demo was built around a controller, but the PC project documents both mouse-and-keyboard and gamepad support. It also preserves the original-style options for brightness, subtitles and camera inversion.

One interaction in P.T. responds to microphone input. The README says that a microphone can be bypassed by assigning a keyboard key or controller triggers. Therefore, a microphone is not an unavoidable accessory for the port according to the project documentation. The substitute input may be more convenient for a desktop setup, but it is still an adaptation of the original interaction rather than evidence that the PS4 demo itself used a keyboard.
A PC-compatible gamepad is optional, not a documented requirement. The project does not identify a particular controller model, so compatibility should be checked for your operating system rather than inferred from a specific product.
PC-only options and how they change the experience
The project’s stated baseline is the original behavior. The additions below are intended to be optional; the README says enhancements are off or set to original behavior by default. Availability can vary by platform and hardware.
| Feature | What it provides | Effect on an original-style playthrough |
|---|---|---|
| Display modes and resolution selection | PC-oriented choices for windowing and output resolution | Lets the game fit a modern monitor without changing the underlying puzzle or loop logic |
| V-sync | Synchronization control for the display | Can be adjusted for tearing or latency preferences; the best setting depends on the display |
| Upscalers | Several image-scaling options are listed | May improve performance or clarity on supported hardware, but is not part of the original PS4 presentation |
| Graphics settings | Additional PC rendering controls | Provide flexibility beyond the fixed console configuration |
| Photo mode | Pause-and-frame tools for capturing the scene | Useful for inspection or screenshots, but not part of the intended uninterrupted horror flow |
| Free camera | Camera movement outside normal player control | Enables exploration of spaces and production details that the demo normally hides |
| Loop browser | A way to select or inspect loops | Changes the progression structure when enabled; leave it off for the normal sequence |
| Museum | An additional viewing or archival area | Supplementary content rather than a replacement for the demo |
| Extra languages | Language choices beyond the original installation’s configuration | Improves accessibility for some players but is an addition to the PS4 release |
| Mod support | A framework for user modifications | Extends the project beyond preservation; mods can alter behavior and are not evidence of original fidelity |
If your goal is historical comparison, keep the port’s additions disabled and use the original brightness, subtitle and camera-inversion values. If your goal is accessibility, screenshots or technical exploration, the optional tools are the reason to prefer the PC build over a strictly unchanged console setup.
Platform support and compatibility limits
Windows, Linux and macOS
The README documents builds or packages for all three operating-system families. That does not mean every feature is identical everywhere. Vulkan driver quality, controller handling, upscaler support and performance can depend on the operating system, graphics hardware and the specific package version.

Regional game data
The US release is the tested data set identified in the documentation. European and Japanese releases are reported to install with a warning because the developer has not examined their data. Treat that as a compatibility qualification, not as proof that every non-US copy fails or that every one will work.
System requirements
No named minimum processor, graphics card, memory or storage specification is established in the supplied technical material. A machine that can run modern Vulkan software may still encounter driver-specific issues, and a nominally powerful computer can fail if its driver or data layout is incompatible. Check the project’s current README and issue tracker for build-specific requirements before troubleshooting hardware.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How close is it to the PS4 demo?
The project’s design goal is behavioral preservation: original data, rebuilt logic and default settings that reproduce the console experience. That is a stronger basis for fidelity than a recreation that redraws assets from memory, but it remains a claim about an evolving fan project.
In an October 8, 2026 report, PC Gamer quoted developer Lorean Xavier saying, “I wanted to make the version of P.T. that my younger self always wished existed.” The same report quoted P.T. dataminer Lance McDonald describing the result as, in his assessment, a “1:1 port of the entire codebase” that recreated undocumented behavior he knew. McDonald’s statement is an attributed expert assessment reported by PC Gamer, not an independently measured benchmark.
The safest conclusion is therefore specific: the port uses the original game files and is engineered to reproduce the original behavior, while its creator and a knowledgeable observer describe it as unusually faithful. That does not establish identical frame timing, every hardware-dependent rendering result or perfect compatibility with every regional dump and future build.

Which version should you use?
Choose the original PS4 demo when
- You already have a working PS4 installation and want the historical console presentation without PC enhancements.
- You prefer the original controller and fixed rendering behavior.
- You do not want to manage external game-data files, Vulkan drivers or cross-platform configuration.
Choose the native PC project when
- You have compatible PS4 data and want to run the experience on Windows, Linux or macOS.
- You need mouse-and-keyboard controls, an input substitute for the microphone interaction or modern display settings.
- You want optional photo mode, free camera, loop browser, museum, extra languages or mod support.
- You are interested in preservation and technical inspection while keeping original behavior as the default.
Be cautious with older recreations when
- You need the original scripts, audio, cutscenes and undocumented behaviors rather than an approximation.
- You see “P.T. remake” used without a clear explanation of which assets and logic are recreated.
- You need confidence about regional compatibility or a specific feature set; those details vary by project.
Common misunderstandings
“The PC port is an official PC release.”
No. The documented project is fan-made, and its README disclaims affiliation or endorsement by Konami and Kojima Productions.
“Installing the port gives me P.T.”
No. The installer and repository do not include the game data. The project reads files from the player’s own PS4 copy.
“It is just an emulator.”
No. The project describes rebuilt C++ logic and a Vulkan renderer rather than emulation of the PS4 executable.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

“Every PC feature is always active.”
No. The README says enhancements are off or configured for original behavior by default, and some options depend on platform or hardware.
“A microphone is mandatory.”
Not according to the README. A keyboard key or controller trigger can be assigned for the documented voice-related interaction.
“A favorable quote proves perfect equivalence.”
No. The comments from the developer and Lance McDonald support the project’s fidelity goal, but they are not a comprehensive independent compatibility test.
Bottom line
The native PC project is best understood as a preservation-focused port layer around original PS4 game data. Compared with the PS4 demo, it changes the execution environment, input options and available tools, while attempting to keep the game’s content and behavior intact. Compared with older PC recreations, its defining difference is that it does not replace the original assets with approximations. If you want to play it, plan on supplying compatible PS4 files, using the platform-specific README, and treating regional support and feature availability as project-specific rather than guaranteed.
