Over the Hill has 62 achievements in its Steam launch build, including 33 marked rare. The hidden achievements are not a second story campaign: they extend the driving, weather, wildlife photography, recovery equipment, collectibles and regional-completion systems you already use while exploring. You can plan for all of them without seeing exact locations or trigger sequences, and the current game structure does not permanently lock achievement progress after you finish a region.
How many secret achievements are in Over the Hill?
The official Steam achievement page currently lists 62 achievements, of which 33 are marked rare. Some entries stay hidden until they unlock, so the in-game list does not reveal every objective at the start. The hidden layer is best treated as a set of extended milestones for normal play rather than as a separate puzzle chain.
That distinction matters for planning. You do not need to follow a secret ending route or make a one-time dialogue choice. Instead, you will gradually encounter objectives tied to distance driven, particular road conditions, wildlife photography, meteorite recovery, vehicle recovery and complete regional checklists. The exact places and action sequences remain undisclosed here.
What the hidden achievements cover
The achievements fall into recognizable groups. Each group rewards a different style of play, so you can decide what to pursue actively and what to let accumulate during ordinary exploration.

The sources do not establish a separate count for each category, and the hidden list can change as the game is updated. The total of 62 applies to the Steam launch build described by the current official listing.
Spoiler-safe examples of hidden objectives
The visible achievement names provide useful clues without giving away routes. They tell you which systems to practice, not where to perform a specific action.

Use these names as preparation prompts. If you have not yet driven at night, used the camera, tested the winch or practiced recovering a rollover, those are sensible skills to try during normal exploration. Deliberately creating a difficult situation is optional; the game does not require you to spoil a route to understand the objective.

Are any achievements missable?
The current reference indicates that Over the Hill has no campaign end state that permanently locks achievements. After regional completion, you can continue in the same save and clean up outstanding objectives. That makes the list functionally non-missable in the usual sense: a completed region is not a point of no return.
“Not missable” does not mean every objective is automatic. Weather mileage, submerged-vehicle recovery and wildlife encounters may require deliberate setup. A condition can be uncommon on the route you prefer, and a rare animal may take longer to find than a common one. The practical risk is inefficient planning, not losing access forever.

- Finish the tutorial systems. Learn driving, navigation, equipment and the basic upgrade and cosmetic flows. The tutorial, first upgrade and first cosmetic are the natural early unlocks.
- Explore continuously. Let distance achievements accumulate while you open trails, inspect scenery and collect ordinary finds. Avoid grinding a single short road unless you are deliberately practicing control.
- Record condition mileage. When snow, rain, sand or mud appears, spend enough time driving in it to make progress. If a condition is not appearing on your usual route, change your route or region rather than assuming the achievement is broken.
- Keep the camera ready. Photograph animals and birds as you encounter them. This starts the broad wildlife track without requiring a separate checklist on your first visit.
- Practice recovery tools. Use the winch and rollover-recovery controls during exploration so a difficult position becomes a learning opportunity. Tool-related objectives reward execution, not simply owning the equipment.
- Finish ordinary regional work. Clear the Canada and Algeria checklists once you have seen the relevant terrain and systems. These are naturally late goals because they depend on broad exploration.
- Make a patient wildlife cleanup pass. Rare and legendary photography is the least predictable part of the list. Their spawn conditions are not documented in the current references, so revisit suitable areas while exploring instead of following an unverified spawn timetable.
Systems that matter for achievement planning
Day and night
Over the Hill includes a day/night cycle. A night-related milestone such as Night Watcher is therefore best approached by allowing the world clock to change during a normal outing. You do not need a revealed route; simply keep a safe, recoverable vehicle position and continue exploring when daylight fades.

Weather and surfaces
Snow, rain, sand and mud are separate condition categories for mileage purposes. Short runs in a condition can require more deliberate routing than the large cumulative-distance achievements. Watch the surface beneath the vehicle and the weather around you, and avoid assuming that a visually similar trail counts for the same category.
Wildlife photography
Photography is a slow exploration track with animal, bird, rare and legendary entries. Common subjects are useful early practice: learn how the camera behaves and photograph every valid subject rather than waiting for a perfect composition. The available references do not document reliable spawn conditions for rare and legendary subjects, so any guide claiming a universal schedule should be treated cautiously.

Winch and recovery equipment
The game’s equipment includes a winch and other trail tools. Achievements such as Close Call and Back on Track test whether you can use those systems when the vehicle is in trouble. Learn where the recovery controls are before you need them, and leave enough room around the vehicle to understand what the winch can reach. The objective is to recover successfully, not to find a hidden collectible.
Meteorites and collectibles
Shiny Rock shows that meteorite recovery is part of the achievement ecosystem. Treat meteorites and other collectibles as reasons to inspect side paths and scenic areas. Because exact locations would spoil discovery, use the general rule of checking unusual formations and optional trails rather than driving only from marker to marker.

Two late achievements award completion of the Canada region and the Algeria region. They are not interchangeable: clearing one does not clear the other. Plan each as a regional passport, finishing the local checklist and exploration work before moving to the final cleanup pass.

Funselektor’s Steam launch announcement identifies Canada and Algeria as the launch regions. The official store describes varied biomes, trails, scenic landscapes, planks, winches and other equipment, so the regional objectives are also a test of how broadly you have used the game’s traversal systems.
Solo, co-op and a sensible division of effort
The official store supports solo play or co-op with up to three friends. A group can make scouting and recovery more comfortable, but the achievement descriptions themselves do not establish that every objective has shared credit or a special co-op requirement. If you are pursuing a specific hidden entry, check that it unlocks for the intended player before relying on a multiplayer session as your only attempt.
For spoiler-free co-op, divide responsibilities by activity rather than by undisclosed locations: one player can watch for wildlife, another can handle navigation and condition mileage, while everyone practices recovery and equipment use. Keep your own save progress and verify the unlock notification on your account.

- A condition achievement is not moving: Confirm that you are actually driving in the named snow, rain, sand or mud condition. Move to a route where the condition is unmistakable and keep driving long enough for cumulative progress to register.
- A wildlife photo did not count: Try another clear photograph of a valid animal or bird and watch for the unlock notification. Do not assume that spotting a subject without using the camera satisfies the requirement.
- You cannot recover the vehicle: Stop spinning the wheels, reposition if possible and use the winch from a reachable anchor. Practicing before a high-stakes expedition reduces accidental resets.
- A rare animal never appears: The current references do not document rare or legendary spawn conditions. Continue exploring and revisit suitable habitats instead of trusting an unverified fixed timer.
- A regional passport is incomplete: Return to the region and review its remaining checklist items. Regional completion is a broad objective, not merely reaching the end of a main trail.
- The hidden list looks incomplete: Hidden entries are intentionally concealed until unlocked. Compare your progress with the official total of 62 rather than expecting every name to be visible from the beginning.
What remains deliberately undisclosed
A spoiler-safe guide can identify systems and preparation, but it should not publish exact trigger locations, route order or action sequences for hidden entries. Those details would turn exploration achievements into a checklist and remove the discovery the game is designed to reward.
The current references also do not provide a trustworthy completion-time or difficulty statistic. Achievement rarity on Steam is a community metric, not a forecast of how long your own save will take. Your total will depend on how much you explore, how often weather changes on your routes and how quickly rare wildlife appears.
Bottom line for a no-spoiler run
Start normally, photograph wildlife, drive through every surface and weather type, learn the recovery tools, and let distance totals build while you explore. Finish the Canada and Algeria checklists, then use a patient final pass for rare and legendary photography. With no reported campaign lockout, you can make these decisions in any order that suits your save without exposing the exact solutions.
