If an Over the Hill achievement did not unlock, update the Steam version first, then restart the game and repeat the exact objective. Funselektor Labs Inc.’s October 16, 2026 post-launch update fixed “some achievements not being unlockable for players that played the next fest demo.” The game launched on Windows through Steam on October 14, 2026, with Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud enabled.
Start with the confirmed demo-related fix
The most specific known cause affects players who used the Next Fest demo before buying or starting the full game. The developer’s October 16, 2026 changelog explicitly says it “Fixed some achievements not being unlockable for players that played the next fest demo.” If your save originated in that demo, updating is not optional troubleshooting; it is the first documented remedy.
Install the current Steam update
- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Right-click Over the Hill, choose Properties, and open Updates.
- Allow any pending download to finish. If Steam shows a queued update, move it to the front of the download queue.
- Close the game completely and relaunch it after the update installs.
Do not judge the fix from an already-open session. The running process may still contain the pre-update game code, so exit to the desktop, quit the process, and start a fresh session. Then perform the achievement’s objective again.
When the demo save is involved
A demo-origin save can remain relevant even after the full game is updated. Load the save only after confirming that the update is installed, and repeat the objective rather than assuming the previous completion will be retroactively recognized. The published note confirms a blocked-achievement fix, but it does not document which individual achievements were affected or whether every previously completed objective will be awarded automatically.

Check the exact achievement trigger
An achievement can look complete while one required condition is missing. Before repeating it, open Steam’s achievement list and read the wording literally. Separate the visible milestone from the complete trigger: a named location, item, event, mode, difficulty, sequence, or end-state may all be part of the requirement.
Questions to answer before retrying
- What is the exact name? Record the achievement title rather than describing it from memory.
- What action is required? Identify the final interaction, event, or result that should fire the unlock.
- Is a particular mode required? A free-roam activity, challenge, story segment, or other mode may not count if the achievement expects another one.
- Must the steps occur in one session? Unless the game or achievement text says progress carries across sessions, treat the sequence as a single-session attempt.
- Does the objective require a completion state? Reaching an area or starting an activity may not be enough if the trigger fires only after finishing it.
Write down the actions in order and compare them with the wording. Do not substitute a similar-looking milestone. The available official information does not publish a complete trigger list for every Over the Hill achievement, so a named achievement may still require interpretation from its in-game description.
Refresh Steam and account synchronization
A completed trigger may not appear immediately in the achievement list. Bethesda’s official achievement guidance warns that “Networking or connection issues may delay the appearance of your achievement.” A missing pop-up therefore does not prove that the game never recorded the event.

Use a low-risk synchronization reset
- Finish the current activity and return to a safe menu or exit point.
- Quit Over the Hill fully rather than leaving it suspended.
- Sign out of the platform account used to play, then sign back in.
- Reboot the computer.
- Launch Steam and start the game again.
- Repeat the objective from the beginning and allow time for the notification and account list to refresh.
This process addresses a delayed client, account-session, or network update without changing game files. It is safer than editing a save and should be completed before any file-level troubleshooting.
Distinguish a delayed display from a failed trigger
If the achievement appears after the restart or account refresh, the issue was synchronization rather than the game’s objective logic. If it remains absent, repeat the complete trigger once more on the current build. Avoid repeatedly checking only the pop-up; verify the achievement list after returning to Steam.
Retry from a clean, controlled state
If updating and refreshing do not resolve the problem, make the next attempt reproducible. A controlled retry helps separate a missed condition from a persistent defect.

Prepare the retry
- Use the updated Windows Steam build.
- Start from a save made before the achievement’s first required step, if one is available.
- Disable unrelated overlays or background tools only if they interfere with input or the game window; do not use unsupported unlock utilities.
- Follow the objective in the documented order and avoid skipping intermediate events.
- Remain online long enough for Steam to synchronize after the trigger.
Record what happened
If the second clean attempt fails, capture the information support will need: the exact achievement name, your platform, the game version shown by Steam, whether the Next Fest demo save was used, the save point from which you started, and the exact actions immediately before the expected unlock. Include whether Steam showed any synchronization warning and whether other achievements unlock normally.

Steam Cloud and save-file precautions
Steam lists Steam Cloud support for Over the Hill. Cloud storage can help preserve progress across installations, but the available sources do not publish a universal cloud-conflict procedure, a guaranteed repair workflow, or the exact set of files included in synchronization.
What is known about the Windows save location
An unaffiliated fan wiki reports DocumentsMy Gamesover the hill as a possible Windows save directory. That report says the file names and cloud scope are unconfirmed. Treat the path as a place to inspect, not as an official specification.

Back up before inspecting files
- Exit the game and Steam before copying anything.
- Make a dated backup copy of the suspected save folder somewhere outside the original directory.
- Do not delete, rename, or overwrite files while trying to force an achievement.
- If Steam presents a cloud-versus-local conflict, preserve both versions before choosing one.
- Restore the backup if a test leaves your progress missing or rolls the game back.
There is no developer-approved save edit or console command published for manually granting an Over the Hill achievement. Editing files can corrupt progress or replace a good cloud copy with a damaged local state, so it belongs only after ordinary retries and only with a verified backup.

The current release covered by the documented troubleshooting steps is the Windows version distributed through Steam. The Steam listing includes both Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 versions are planned for 2027, according to the developer’s announcement, but those ports are not current launch platforms.

That distinction matters when searching for a fix. A console-specific menu path, save location, or achievement-reset method cannot be assumed to apply to the Windows Steam release. Until a console version ships with its own support documentation, use Steam and Windows instructions for the presently available game.

Escalate a persistent failure
Contact the developer with the achievement name and the reproduction details collected during your clean retry. State that you are on Windows through Steam, identify the installed game version, and say whether the save began in the Next Fest demo. A short, ordered reproduction report is more useful than “the achievement did not pop.”
Contact platform support as well if Steam account synchronization appears abnormal or multiple unrelated achievements fail to register. Official achievement guidance says support cannot manually unlock achievements, so request help diagnosing the account, network, or synchronization condition rather than asking for a forced grant.

Use that boundary when evaluating forum advice. A workaround that assumes an undocumented file name, cloud scope, or command may work for one installation and still be unsafe or irrelevant to another. The reliable path is to update, verify the precise trigger, refresh the account session, retry cleanly, protect your saves, and escalate with a reproducible report.
