Over Fifty Contents Insurance for Renters is an Australian sum-insured policy branded by Over Fifty, with Allianz Australia Insurance Limited identified as the provider by CHOICE. It may suit renters seeking cover for belongings and associated liability, but public information does not establish a current premium or a public CHOICE score. Check the current Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), Key Fact Sheet and your policy schedule before deciding: those documents set the terms that apply to your cover.
What is Over Fifty renters contents insurance?
It is contents insurance for renters: you choose a sum insured intended to reflect the replacement value of your belongings. The insurer’s calculator can help estimate that amount, but it is only a guide. The insurer says payment is limited to the covered loss or the sum insured, whichever is less, subject to the policy terms.
A landlord’s building insurance is not a substitute for cover for a renter’s belongings. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) explains this general distinction in US consumer guidance; the policy reviewed here is Australian, so rely on its Australian policy documents for applicable terms.

CHOICE’s product record lists cover for events including theft, fire, flood, storm, earthquake, tsunami, vandalism and escape of water. Each benefit is subject to policy definitions, exclusions, limits and any waiting periods. CHOICE lists a 72-hour waiting period for bushfire or grassfire and flood; check the current PDS because waiting periods and conditions should be confirmed against the documents applying to your policy.

| Benefit | What the public product information says | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Legal liability | Up to $20 million, according to the insurer’s product page and CHOICE. | Covered circumstances, exclusions and applicable limits in the PDS. |
| Temporary accommodation | Up to 12 months, or up to 10% of the contents sum insured, as stated by the insurer and CHOICE. | Which events qualify, how the amount is calculated and any other conditions. |
| Pet boarding | Up to $500, according to the insurer’s stated benefit. | Qualifying circumstances and conditions. |
| Moving, visitors and household disruption | The insurer describes additional benefits for moving between addresses, guest and visitor property, debris removal, and spoilage of food or medicine. | Eligibility, covered events, sublimits and exclusions in the PDS and schedule. |
The insurer also offers optional accidental-damage and portable-contents cover. Portable cover may require items to be listed with declared replacement values to insure them away from home. Do not assume either option is included: check the selections and listed items on your policy schedule, along with any item limits and exclusions.
How much contents cover do you need?
Choose a sum insured based on the cost of replacing the belongings you want covered, not their sentimental value or what you paid years ago. Work through each room and account for less obvious possessions such as clothing, kitchen equipment, electronics and household items. The insurer’s replacement calculator is a starting point; the policy terms determine how a claim is settled and the sum insured caps payment.

A written or digital inventory, photographs and evidence of ownership can make it easier to estimate the amount and document a claim. Maryland Insurance Administration guidance recommends keeping these records. That is general US recordkeeping guidance, not a stated condition of this Australian policy or a guarantee of payment.

Does it offer good value?
A public value verdict is not possible from the available price information. CHOICE says the insurer did not share price data and describes its assessment as cover-only; its exact rating and recommendation are available to members, not on the public page. There is therefore no substantiated current premium, public score or like-for-like price ranking to cite.

The insurer advertises a possible first-year online-purchase discount of up to 10%. It is a promotion, not a guaranteed saving; check current eligibility and offer terms when requesting a quote. Your actual premium and eligibility require a quote.

Compare quotes using equivalent cover choices rather than headline premiums alone. The Maryland Insurance Administration recommends equivalent comparisons as general US consumer guidance; the same method is useful for structuring a comparison, but it does not describe Australian policy rules.
