For U.S. adults with perceived mild-to-moderate hearing loss, the reviewed options span from the lower-cost Audien Atom Pro 2 and ELEHEAR Beyond to the support-oriented Jabra Enhance Select 700. These are examples selected by two review publishers—not a universal clinical ranking. Choose by fit, ease of adjustment, speech needs, connectivity, support and return terms as well as price, and verify current pricing and availability before buying.

Who should consider an OTC hearing aid?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says OTC hearing aids are for adults 18 and older who believe they have perceived mild-to-moderate hearing loss. They are air-conduction devices that users can customize through controls, tests or software, and can be bought in stores or online without a prescription or required fitting by an audiologist. They are not intended to treat severe or profound hearing loss. FDA guidance lists common signs such as trouble hearing speech in noisy places, difficulty following conversations in groups or on the phone, listening fatigue, and needing to turn up the TV or radio more than other people do.

Seek medical or hearing-care advice rather than relying on an OTC device if you have a sudden change in hearing, ear pain or discomfort, recent blood, pus or fluid from the ear, suspected earwax or an object in the ear, vertigo, or difficulty hearing loud sounds. If an OTC aid does not help enough, consult a hearing-care professional.

Audien Atom One OTC Hearing Aids
  • HEAR CLEARLY AGAIN — WITHOUT THE PRESCRIPTION PRICE TAG: The Atom One is a true FDA-registered OTC hearing aid — not a cheap amplifier. Developed by audiologists using feedback from over 1 million customers, it delivers real hearing support for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss. No prescription required. No doctor's visit needed. No hearing test necessary. Just charge, insert, and start hearing what you've been missing
  • SIMPLE ANALOG DIALS — ADJUST VOLUME & FREQUENCY WITHOUT AN APP OR BUTTONS: Forget complicated apps or tiny buttons you can't feel. The Atom One features two analog dials — one for volume (V) and one for frequency (F). Turn clockwise to increase, counterclockwise to decrease. That's it. Start low and work your way up to find your perfect setting. Ideal for seniors or first-time hearing aid users who want straightforward, no-tech controls.
  • 24-HOUR RECHARGEABLE BATTERY — NO DISPOSABLE BATTERIES EVER: Get a full day of hearing on a single charge. Place the hearing aids in the USB-C charging dock and they'll be fully recharged in about 3 hours. Devices automatically power on when removed and power off when docked — no on/off switch to fumble with. No tiny batteries to buy or replace. Just dock at night, wear all day
  • NANO DESIGN DISCREETLY FITS IN THE EAR — COMFORTABLE ENOUGH TO FORGET YOU'RE WEARING THEM: Audien's ultra-small nano design discreetly fits in the ear for a virtually invisible look. Comes with 3 sizes of silicone ear domes (small, medium, large) so you can find the right fit for your ear. Universal design — not left/right specific — so either aid fits either ear. Pull-wire included for safe, easy removal.
  • AUDIEN SOUND CHECK — EXPERT-GUIDED SETUP INCLUDED WITH EVERY PURCHASE: Every Atom One purchase comes with Audien Sound Check, a complimentary expert-guided setup session. Our specialists walk you through proper insertion, dial adjustment, and finding your ideal volume and frequency settings — so you hear clearly from day one. No guesswork, just expert support.
Model Reported price Why it may fit What to weigh
Audien Atom Pro 2 $289 per pair, listed by Audiologists.org A lower-cost in-the-ear example; Audiologists.org names it its budget pick and reports rechargeable operation and four listening modes. That is one publisher’s recommendation, not evidence it will fit every ear or hearing profile. Audiologists.org review
ELEHEAR Beyond $399 per pair at Audiologists.org; $449 per pair at HearingTracker A lower-cost receiver-in-canal option. The reviews describe rechargeable operation, Bluetooth and app adjustments; both identify it as a value-oriented choice. The publishers report different prices. Confirm the current price, included features and seller terms. Audiologists.org review; HearingTracker review
Yeasound RIC800 $549 per pair, listed by HearingTracker A midrange receiver-in-canal candidate that HearingTracker names its overall pick, citing its lab sound assessment, comfort and battery life. Those are HearingTracker’s assessments, not a clinical guarantee or a promise of the same experience for every wearer. HearingTracker review
Jabra Enhance Select 700 $1,995 per pair, listed by Audiologists.org A higher-priced option for buyers who value remote support. Audiologists.org describes rechargeable operation, Bluetooth, a 100-day trial and three years of virtual follow-up care. Recheck trial and support terms with the seller. The review describes it for mild-to-moderate loss and notes its higher cost relative to lower-priced options. Audiologists.org review
Audicus Omni 2 $1,998 per pair, listed by HearingTracker A higher-priced candidate for people interested in remote programming; HearingTracker also highlights a comfortable fit. Verify the current package, included support and terms directly before purchasing. HearingTracker review

The two roundups use different evaluation approaches and recommendations, so their picks should be read as useful shortlists rather than a head-to-head ranking on a single shared scale.

How to choose between models

Start with fit and handling

Behind-the-ear, receiver-in-canal and in-the-ear designs differ in visibility, handling and physical fit. Consider whether you can comfortably place, remove and maintain the device, and whether its shape suits your ear. A model that is difficult to handle or uncomfortable is unlikely to be a good everyday choice, regardless of its feature list.

Look at fitting and personalization

Compare preset listening programs, app-based self-fitting and remote programming. Remote adjustments can help personalize settings, but they do not include an in-person ear exam or real-ear verification. HearingTracker notes that fitting and support matter, and that OTC follow-up can be more limited than a clinic-based pathway.

Judge performance in the situations that matter to you

Reviewers may report lab measures for speech in quiet or noise, feedback and own-voice perception. Treat these as results from that publisher’s methods, not a clinical prediction of how you will hear. Think about whether your main challenge is conversation in a noisy room, group discussion, phone calls or another setting, then check what the review actually assessed.

Check phone, Bluetooth and power requirements

Confirm which phone and app functions a model requires and whether its Bluetooth features match your device. The reviewed examples include rechargeable models, and some list Bluetooth and app adjustments. Consider charging habits and battery arrangements alongside connectivity rather than assuming every feature is necessary.

Read the service and return terms

Before ordering, verify the exact return window, warranty, included professional support and who provides that support. Trial periods and service packages can vary or change; a feature mentioned by a review is not a substitute for checking the current seller’s terms.

How much weight to give the reviews

Audiologists.org says its 2026 recommendations use a 25-point hands-on protocol and audiologist review, and that its staff evaluated more than 40 OTC aids, compiled more than 400 user surveys and reported over 6,000 hours of research. These are publisher-reported methodology figures, not independently audited statistics or proof that a particular device will work for an individual. Its 2026 roundup was updated August 10, 2026.

HearingTracker describes its own lab and audiologist review in its 2026 roundup. Because publishers may test different products and use different methods, do not treat their picks or scores as directly interchangeable. No product listed here should be understood as a clinical recommendation tailored to your hearing profile.

When an OTC device is not the right next step

OTC hearing aids are intended for adults who perceive mild-to-moderate loss, not for every hearing problem. Use the FDA’s warning signs above to decide when to seek care first, and contact a hearing-care professional if a device does not provide enough benefit. A professional can help assess the cause of a problem and whether a different type of care or device is appropriate.
