GTA VI’s launch trailer appears to hide a callback to the 1997 original Grand Theft Auto: Jason Duval’s shirt reads “U.S. Army Marauder Combat Training School, North Fort Law.” North Fort Law was a military base in Fort Law, New Guernsey, and featured in the original game’s “Heist Almighty – Penetrator” mission. The shirt strongly supports an Easter egg or character-background reference, but Rockstar has not confirmed that North Fort Law will be a playable GTA VI location or that the 2D and HD universes share one continuous map.
What North Fort Law was in the original GTA
In the original Grand Theft Auto, Fort Law is a district in New Guernsey. North Fort Law Military Base is listed as a location within that district, placing it firmly in the series’ 2D-era setting.

The “Heist Almighty – Penetrator” connection
North Fort Law appears in the mission “Heist Almighty – Penetrator.” The player helps Mason escape after Mason steals secret files from the military base. That mission is the clearest established story use of the location in the original game.

What Jason’s shirt says in the GTA VI trailer
Trailer analysis transcribes the text on Jason’s shirt as “U.S. Army Marauder Combat Training School, North Fort Law.” The wording is unusually specific: it combines a military-training institution with the exact name of the obscure base from the original game.
That specificity makes a deliberate callback the most straightforward reading. It may establish part of Jason’s military background, function as an in-universe place name, or simply reward longtime players who recognize a location that has not been prominent in later games.

Does this prove GTA VI visits North Fort Law?
No. The shirt is direct visual evidence of a reference, not confirmation of a destination. Rockstar has not announced North Fort Law as a GTA VI location, shown a map entry for it, or said that Jason will return there.

Does North Fort Law prove GTA VI goes to Liberty City?
It does not. North Fort Law was in New Guernsey in the original game, while Liberty City is a different franchise setting associated with other GTA stories. Fans may connect the shirt to theories about New Guernsey, New Jersey or Liberty City, but those are interpretations rather than established facts.

The reference also does not demonstrate that GTA VI uses the original game’s map. Rockstar can reuse names, visual motifs and historical details across separate continuities without declaring that every place occupies the same physical position.
What Rockstar has officially announced
Rockstar’s October 15, 2026 launch announcement introduces Jason and Lucia’s criminal predicament and confirms the launch trailer. Its statement, “Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them,” describes their situation but does not explain Jason’s shirt, North Fort Law or a Liberty City setting.

Rockstar’s official store lists GTA VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, including a physical code-in-box edition. The listed release date is November 19, 2026. That platform and date information is official; the North Fort Law interpretation remains based on trailer analysis until Rockstar provides more detail.
How to read the reference without overclaiming
- Separate what is visible from what is inferred. The shirt text is the visible evidence. Calling it a callback to the original base is a well-supported interpretation.
- Keep the continuities distinct. North Fort Law’s established original-game appearance belongs to the 2D universe; its presence in the HD universe is not automatic.
- Do not turn a name into a map reveal. Nothing currently proves that players can travel to a North Fort Law base in GTA VI.
- Label setting theories as speculation. Claims tying the shirt to New Guernsey, New Jersey or Liberty City need an explicit Rockstar confirmation before they become canon.
Bottom line for players waiting for GTA VI
North Fort Law is best understood as a deliberate-looking reference to an obscure military location from the original Grand Theft Auto, with an additional connection to Jason’s apparent military background. It enriches the series’ historical texture, but it is not yet evidence of a returning mission, a shared 2D/HD map or a confirmed Liberty City setting. The only current official release details are November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
