Choose the NETGEAR Orbi 770 if you need multi-gigabit Ethernet on the router and satellite, or want a manufacturer-listed coverage estimate of up to 8,000 square feet with the three-pack. Choose the Linksys Velop Pro 7 if four 1-Gbps Ethernet ports per node suit your wired devices and its live price is better for the same number of nodes. Both are tri-band Wi-Fi 7 systems; neither is a proven universal winner, and the available independent reviews do not constitute a controlled head-to-head test.
Orbi 770 vs Velop Pro 7 at a glance
| Decision point | NETGEAR Orbi 770 | Linksys Velop Pro 7 |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi | Tri-band Wi-Fi 7 | Tri-band Wi-Fi 7 BE11000, covering 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz |
| Wired ports | Router: one 2.5-Gbps WAN and three 2.5-Gbps LAN ports. Satellite: two 2.5-Gbps LAN ports. | Each node: one 2.5-Gbps internet port and four 1-Gbps Ethernet ports. |
| Coverage information | NETGEAR lists up to 5,500 sq. ft. for the two-pack and up to 8,000 sq. ft. for the three-pack. | Pack options vary; Linksys says some homes may need additional nodes. |
| Expansion | NETGEAR lists an additional satellite for the system. | Additional nodes may be needed in some homes; confirm compatible expansion options for the specific kit. |
| Feature note | NETGEAR announced MLO combining the 5- and 6-GHz bands for fronthaul and backhaul. | Linksys says MLO is currently in beta. |
| Price evidence | NETGEAR’s US product page displayed $499.99 for the two-pack and $629.99 for the three-pack when accessed in 2026; prices can change. | A same-date, same-pack price was not established. |
The coverage numbers are manufacturer estimates, not guarantees for every home. A system’s actual speed and range depend on construction, placement, interference, traffic and the client devices using it. See NETGEAR’s Orbi 770 product page and Linksys’ MBE7000 product information and FAQ for model details and current terms.
Which one has faster Ethernet ports?
The Orbi 770 has the advantage for multi-gig wired connections: its router has a 2.5-Gbps WAN port and three 2.5-Gbps LAN ports, while its satellite has two 2.5-Gbps LAN ports. The Velop Pro 7 has a 2.5-Gbps internet port, but its four Ethernet ports per node are 1 Gbps each.
That difference matters if you have multi-gig internet service, a multi-gig-capable computer or storage device, or plan to use wired connections between mesh nodes. A 1-Gbps Ethernet port can bottleneck a single wired link below multi-gig speeds, even when the wireless system’s advertised aggregate class is higher. For ordinary gigabit devices, Velop’s four LAN sockets per node may be more convenient than Orbi’s smaller number of ports on each unit.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How should you compare Wi-Fi and coverage?
Both systems use three wireless bands and Wi-Fi 7. Linksys specifies the Velop Pro 7 as BE11000 and lists 2.4-, 5- and 6-GHz operation. NETGEAR advertises up to 11 Gbps for the Orbi 770. That figure is a manufacturer maximum, not a promise of the speed one client will achieve: realized performance depends on client capability, network conditions and how the system is installed.
Match the kit to the home, not just the square-foot figure
NETGEAR lists up to 5,500 square feet for the Orbi two-pack and up to 8,000 square feet for the three-pack. These are vendor estimates for the specified kits. Walls, floors, building materials, node placement and neighboring networks can change the result substantially. Linksys likewise cautions that actual range and performance depend on conditions such as obstructions, interference, traffic and client Wi-Fi standards.

Start with the floor plan and the locations where coverage is weak. A larger advertised area does not ensure a signal through dense construction or across multiple floors. The Orbi’s separately listed satellite gives it a defined expansion path; check the exact Velop kit and supported node options if you expect to add coverage later.
What the independent reviews do—and do not—show
TechRadar’s separate Orbi 770 review reported that the system filled a dead spot with the full 150-Mbps broadband speed available in that review setting. Its Velop Pro 7 review described fast, reliable coverage and noted some app rough edges. These are observations from different review contexts, not a same-site, controlled comparison; they cannot establish which will be faster in your home. What to know about MLO and setup
Multi-Link Operation (MLO) is a Wi-Fi 7 feature that can use multiple bands for a connection. NETGEAR’s launch announcement described combining 5- and 6-GHz bands for client links and backhaul, while Linksys’ MBE7000 FAQ says MLO is currently in beta. These descriptions do not establish identical feature behavior across current firmware versions. Check the current firmware notes and make sure your client devices support the capabilities you plan to use.
Setup is app-based on both systems. NETGEAR directs users to the Orbi app for setup and management. Linksys requires its app and an iOS or Android device for MBE7000 setup; its app can manage guest-network and parental-control features. App features and subscription requirements can change, so verify the current offering before buying. TechRadar’s guide notes limited features in the Orbi app and that some Orbi features require additional subscriptions.

Security, warranty and buying terms
Linksys’ MBE7000 FAQ describes Cognitive Security functions that block malicious websites and adult content using Fortinet Secure DNS and Cisco OpenDNS. Verify the current feature set and any applicable terms in your country. Linksys says the warranty period depends on the country of purchase.

Which mesh system should you choose?
Choose Orbi 770 if…
- You want 2.5-Gbps LAN ports on both the router and satellite for multi-gig wired devices or a wired multi-gig setup.
- You are considering a two- or three-unit kit and find NETGEAR’s listed coverage estimates useful for an initial sizing decision.
- You want the manufacturer-listed option to add an Orbi satellite.
Choose Velop Pro 7 if…
- Four 1-Gbps Ethernet ports per node better fit the number of wired devices you need to connect.
- You do not need multi-gig LAN speeds and its current price is preferable for a comparable node count.
- You are comfortable checking MLO’s beta status and Linksys’ current app and feature terms.
Before you buy
- Compare kits with the same number of nodes; a two-pack and a three-pack are not equivalent coverage or value comparisons.
- Check the current local price, warranty terms and seller authorization for the exact kit.
- List your wired devices and their network speeds. The Orbi’s 2.5-Gbps LAN ports and Velop’s four 1-Gbps Ethernet ports per node serve different needs.
- Plan node placement around your home’s layout and construction, then confirm current firmware and compatible client support for Wi-Fi 7 features such as MLO.
