The OPPO A79 5G is easiest to recommend for daylight photos, a large 90Hz screen, and quick charging—not for demanding games or low-light selfies. It is the India-market 2023 model CPH2553 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Whether it makes sense now depends on its live price: its ₹19,999 price was the October 2023 launch price, not a current quote.
What the OPPO A79 5G gets right
Daylight photos from the main camera
The rear camera setup pairs a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with a 2MP secondary camera; the front camera is 8MP f/2.0. In Shekhar Thakran’s January 2024 91mobiles review, daylight photos had reasonably accurate color and good edge detection. Portraits were considered decent. The reviewer’s concise verdict was: “OPPO A79 5G shines in the camera department and offers fast battery charging as well.” 91mobiles
That praise is best read as a daylight strength, not a claim that every camera use is strong. In low light, the reviewer found that images lacked detail, and the selfie camera was underwhelming. The default AI mode also boosted colors, so output may look more vivid than the scene.

Large, smooth screen and a headphone jack
OPPO’s India specifications list a 6.72-inch FHD+ LTPS LCD with 2400 × 1080 resolution, selectable 90Hz or 60Hz refresh, up to 180Hz touch sampling, and 680-nit brightness. The screen is large and the higher refresh mode can make scrolling look smoother, but this is an LCD, not AMOLED. The 91mobiles reviewer found it reasonably bright while noting the contrast and color disadvantage against AMOLED alternatives available in that review period. The phone also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Fast charging and useful light-use endurance
The phone has a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery (4,880mAh rated) and supports 33W SUPERVOOC charging. In the 91mobiles review, light use lasted beyond a day, while heavier use could mean charging by evening. The review’s measured full charge took 74 minutes. Separately, OPPO’s October 2023 launch announcement claimed 51% charge in 30 minutes under its stated conditions; that manufacturer figure is not the same test as the reviewer’s full-charge result.
Where the A79 5G falls short
Performance is adequate for routine use, not a gaming-first choice
OPPO lists an MT6833 eight-core SoC and Mali-G57 MC2 graphics; the chipset is identified as MediaTek Dimensity 6020. Thakran found ordinary daily tasks manageable, but demanding workloads less suitable, and reported heat after gaming for more than half an hour. In the reviewer’s 50-thread CPU throttling test, run for 30 minutes, the phone retained 92% of peak performance. That single test result does not make it a strong choice for sustained gaming: the review’s practical observation was that extended play could get warm.

The reviewer also recorded AnTuTu 392,118 and Geekbench scores of 1,862 multi-core and 708 single-core. These are results from a January 2024 review, not a current ranking against newer phones. The reviewer’s performance category score was 6.5/10, the lowest of the review’s category scores.
Bulk, preinstalled apps, and a display trade-off
The 91mobiles review listed a bulky feel and too many preinstalled apps among its cons. Its overall score was 7/10, with design 7/10, display 7.5/10, software 7/10, camera 7.5/10, performance 6.5/10, and battery 7.5/10. Those ratings describe one reviewer’s assessment in January 2024; they are not current measurements or a comparison with today’s market.

The LCD is the key screen compromise: it provides FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz mode, but buyers who prioritize AMOLED contrast and color should look elsewhere. OPPO’s India page lists ColorOS 13.1, but the available information does not establish the phone’s current update status or support duration.

OPPO’s launch announcement also listed IP54 protection for the India launch model; that launch-era specification should not be treated as a substitute for checking the exact regional listing.

Should you buy the OPPO A79 5G?
Consider it if you want a large FHD+ 90Hz screen, a headphone jack, 5G, convenient charging, and a main camera that performed well in daylight in the 91mobiles review. It is a weaker fit if your priorities are AMOLED, dependable low-light or selfie photos, long demanding gaming sessions, or the strongest performance for your money.
