You can follow a community recipe to run OpenMuse on CasaOS, but the available instructions do not establish a verified, current, end-to-end installation procedure. The recipe describes three Docker containers and requires SSH access, a model endpoint, and a CopilotKit Intelligence project key. Treat its branch, commands, and capabilities as author-reported—not as an official CasaOS or OpenMuse install method—and verify the live project configuration before deploying it.
What the CasaOS OpenMuse setup is supposed to run
A guide published by Murat on DEV Community on October 7, 2026 describes an OpenMuse deployment on CasaOS v0.4.9 using Docker Compose. It assigns three roles to the containers:
api: a Node API server and assistant agent, reported on port 8787.web: a chat interface served as a static site through nginx, reported on port 8081.browser-worker: a sandboxed browser for web tasks, reported on port 8790 and bound to loopback.
The article says the assistant can chat, manage CasaOS apps, read logs, and start or stop containers with user approval. Those details are the guide author’s description; they have not been independently checked against the OpenMuse source code. The article also says OpenMuse has no official Dockerfiles or CasaOS installation guide, so this should be understood as a community deployment recipe, not vendor-supported documentation. Read the DEV Community guide.

Check your host and prerequisites first
The recipe assumes a working CasaOS installation with Docker and Docker Compose, SSH access from another computer, an OpenRouter API key or another OpenAI-compatible model endpoint, and a CopilotKit Intelligence project key. The article says the CopilotKit key is required in every mode. It does not establish current credential names, provider compatibility, key-injection details, or the services’ current pricing and privacy terms.

CasaOS lists support for amd64/x86-64, arm64, and armv7 hardware. Its official README identifies Debian 12 as tested and recommended, Ubuntu Server 20.04 as tested, and Raspberry Pi OS as officially supported; several other systems are categorized as community-supported, with some not fully tested. These are CasaOS platform statements, not an OpenMuse compatibility matrix. A supported CasaOS architecture does not guarantee that this particular branch will build or perform acceptably on it. Check the CasaOS README.
- Confirm you can SSH into the CasaOS host and have permission to run Docker commands.
- Confirm you can obtain the model endpoint and CopilotKit credentials the live project configuration actually requires.
- Check that the host has enough available memory and storage for the build and workload. No OpenMuse minimum is established in the available sources.
- Decide whether you are comfortable running an unverified community branch rather than an official installer.
Use SSH and check port conflicts
The guide recommends using SSH from your own computer because it reports that the CasaOS browser terminal can mangle keystrokes during a session. CasaOS separately says terminal-based CasaOS updates should be run through SSH or a directly attached terminal, not the CasaOS UI terminal. That update guidance is not proof that the UI terminal always fails for app installation.

Before building, check whether ports 8787, 8081, or 8790 are already occupied, and look for existing OpenMuse or browser-worker containers. The guide specifically warns that docker compose down only affects the Compose project in the current directory; it will not stop an unrelated host process or a container managed by a different Compose project. Do not stop or remove a service until you have identified what owns it.
Prepare the source tree described by the guide
The recipe uses /DATA/AppData/openmuse as its working location and says its Dockerfiles expect the cloned source in a repo/ subdirectory. It identifies the branch as casaos-manager-v3. The commands below reproduce that reported source-fetch step; they do not verify that the branch still exists, that its contents are safe or current, or that the remaining Compose and environment configuration is suitable for your host.

The integration of dual 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports (powered by Realtek RTL8125 controller) makes this compact computer an exceptional hardware choice for tech enthusiasts. Easily configure it into software routers, hardware firewalls (pfSense, OpnSense), home NAS servers, or local homelabs.
mkdir -p /DATA/AppData/openmuse
cd /DATA/AppData/openmuse
git clone --branch casaos-manager-v3 https://github.com/Magrebi/openmuse.git repo
cd repo
The guide also reports changing ownership of the app-data directory to the current user. Do not blindly apply a recursive ownership change: first confirm the actual account running the deployment and whether existing files in that directory need to remain owned by another service. The recipe’s use of /DATA/AppData is a convention described by its author, not a universal requirement established for every CasaOS installation.
Inspect the live Compose configuration before building
The accessible guide excerpt does not provide enough verified detail to publish the remaining Compose commands or environment-variable setup safely. Before running any build or starting containers, inspect the checked-out branch’s Compose files, Dockerfiles, and documentation. In particular, establish:

Build expectations and recovery considerations
The guide author estimates roughly 30 minutes for installation, with most of that time spent waiting for the build. That is an estimate, not a benchmark or a guaranteed completion time; host hardware, network access, dependency downloads, and current source state can change it.
If a build or startup fails, avoid repeatedly running broad cleanup commands. First read the Compose output and identify the failing service, then check whether the port is occupied, whether the required credential is present under the exact name expected by the live configuration, and whether the branch’s dependencies support the host architecture. Preserve logs and data until you understand which volumes are persistent and what a removal command would delete. The available guide excerpt does not establish a tested rollback or recovery procedure.
What this recipe does—and does not—establish
The CasaOS README is useful for checking CasaOS platform support and general installation or maintenance guidance, but it does not validate the OpenMuse branch. Likewise, the DEV Community guide describes one author’s deployment approach; it does not make that branch an official OpenMuse installer or guarantee compatibility on every CasaOS device. The separate CasaOS Guides index is available at the CasaOS Wiki, though its page body is not established here.
