If you want to avoid traveling at night, Hogwarts Legacy is the clearest fit: its World Map has a Wait control that switches between day and night. Minecraft Bedrock can go further in its Editor World Options, where you can choose Always Day, LockTime, or a specific time preset. Days Gone lets you travel at any hour but makes darkness more dangerous, while Octopath Traveler II makes time of day part of its content system. L.A. Noire is a boundary case because Story Mode time is scripted, although Free Roam cycles naturally.
These games do not all solve the same problem. Some let you skip darkness on demand, some let you lock the clock, and others treat nighttime as a risk or as a gateway to different activities.
At a glance: which games let you avoid or control night?
| Game | How much control you have | What night changes | Where the behavior applies | Best match for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hogwarts Legacy | Open the World Map and use Wait to switch day or night | Primarily a travel and activity-timing nuisance | Most map locations; the control can be unavailable in some places | Players who want to skip night before setting out |
| Minecraft Bedrock | Editor options include Normal, Always Day, LockTime, and named time presets | Can be removed, frozen, or set to a chosen time | Bedrock Editor and test-world controls described by Microsoft | Players who want a permanent daylight rule or a fixed clock |
| Days Gone | No documented universal wait button; you choose when and where to travel | More Freakers and changed Marauder behavior after dark | Open-world travel and weather/time systems | Players who accept night as an optional strategic risk |
| Octopath Traveler II | Time of day is part of the game world rather than a simple skip menu | Locations, activities, and available interactions change | Solistia’s full day/night cycle | Players who want day and night to matter mechanically |
| L.A. Noire | Story Mode time is scripted; Free Roam advances naturally | Free Roam follows a cycle and street crimes appear at their proper times | Story Mode versus Free Roam | Players who want atmosphere, not a general-purpose wait feature |
What “optional nighttime travel” means
There are three distinct designs behind this question. A game can provide an explicit wait or sleep command, allowing you to change the clock before leaving. It can provide a world setting that keeps daylight on permanently or freezes time at a selected value. Or it can leave the clock running but make night avoidable through route planning, safe locations, or mission timing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThose distinctions matter because a visible day/night cycle does not automatically mean you can skip it. A scripted story may force a particular hour, and a game that lets you wait may disable that control inside a mission or at a specific location. Check the mode and location limitations before assuming that a daylight option works everywhere.

Hogwarts Legacy: the clearest “wait until day” option
How to change the time
Hogwarts Legacy has the most direct answer for a player who simply wants to travel in daylight. PowerPyx’s February 6, 2023 guide instructs you to open the World Map and press the map’s Wait button. The control switches the world between day and night; it is not a multi-hour slider, so use it as a deliberate day/night toggle.
- Open the World Map from the map screen.
- Look for the on-screen Wait prompt.
- Activate it to change the current period from day to night or from night to day.
- Return to the map and begin your journey once the desired lighting is active.
Important location restriction
The Wait option may be unavailable in some locations. PowerPyx specifically notes that fast-traveling outside Hogwarts Castle can make the control available again. If the prompt is missing, leave the castle area through fast travel, reopen the World Map, and check the controls before assuming the feature is disabled permanently.
What this means for exploration
This is a convenience feature rather than a world-setting overhaul. You decide whether to start a trip in daylight, but the evidence does not establish that every quest, interior, or restricted area accepts the command. Treat the map prompt as the authority for your current position. If a mission has its own time requirement, the game may still control the clock independently.

| Setting | Effect | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Leaves the regular day/night cycle active | When you want the standard survival-style passage of time |
| Always Day | Keeps the world in daylight | When darkness is an unwanted hazard or visual problem |
| LockTime | Holds the clock at a selected time | When you want a fixed lighting condition, such as noon or sunset |
| Custom | Uses a time value you choose rather than a named preset | When a specific lighting angle matters for building or testing |
Scope and caveat
The Microsoft page describes Bedrock Editor and test-world controls. That is strong evidence that Bedrock creators can remove or freeze nighttime in those environments, but it does not prove that every ordinary survival-mode interface exposes the same editor panel. Verify the edition and mode you plan to play. A setting available in an editor workflow should not be treated as a universal in-game menu without checking your platform’s current documentation.
A practical setup sequence
- Open the Bedrock Editor’s world options for the world you are configuring.
- Find Daylight Cycle.
- Select Always Day for continuous daylight, or select LockTime and then choose a preset such as Day or Noon.
- Use Normal when you want the cycle restored.
- Save or apply the world options, then confirm the lighting in the world before building or testing.
For a player asking whether night can be made optional, Minecraft Bedrock is therefore the strongest “set it once” example, provided the Editor or test-world context matches your intended play.
Days Gone: nighttime is optional to risk, not optional to toggle
Why darkness changes the decision
Days Gone does not have the same documented universal Wait control as Hogwarts Legacy. Its design instead makes the hour part of route planning. An official PlayStation Blog feature dated July 13, 2017, quoting Bend Studio Creative Director John Garvin, says that “night brings out even more Freakers and changes the behaviors of Marauders,” and explains that weather and time of day can significantly affect the experience.

How to use the cycle to your advantage
- Start long or unfamiliar routes during daylight when visibility and enemy pressure matter most.
- Use the changing clock as a planning signal: if a trip will extend into night, prepare for more Freakers and altered Marauder behavior.
- Treat weather and darkness together rather than evaluating either in isolation, because the official description identifies both as meaningful variables.
- Choose nighttime deliberately when the risk is acceptable, instead of assuming every dark section is a forced story sequence.
Days Gone fits readers who asked whether nighttime travel can be avoided through strategy. It is not evidence of a general sleep-until-morning command, so it belongs in the “optional risk” category rather than the “skip night” category.
Octopath Traveler II: time of day changes what you can do
A full cycle with mechanical consequences
Square Enix describes Solistia as having a “full day / night cycle” and states that “The places you visit and what you can do there will change depending on whether it’s day or night.” This is more than a lighting filter. The clock affects available activities and interactions, so switching periods can open a different layer of the same location.
Why skipping may not be the best goal
If you approach Octopath Traveler II only as a game to keep permanently in daylight, you may miss content that is intentionally tied to night. The useful question is not “How do I eliminate darkness?” but “Which period gives me the interaction I need?” Plan around the activity you are pursuing, then change the period when the game’s systems or story allow it.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Use daytime when the location’s daytime services or encounters are the objective.
- Return at night when a character ability, NPC behavior, or other activity is described as time-dependent.
- Expect the same town or route to offer different possibilities across the cycle.
Octopath Traveler II is consequently a content-gate example: night is optional in the sense that you can choose when to engage with it, but it is valuable rather than merely obstructive.

L.A. Noire: a partial match because mode changes the answer
Story Mode is scripted
Rockstar Support, updated March 23, 2024, states that the time of day in Story Mode is always scripted to the current chapter. That means a player cannot assume that opening a map or waiting in place will produce a general day/night toggle during the campaign. Mission designers control the hour to support the chapter’s sequence and atmosphere.
Free Roam progresses naturally
In Free Roam, time advances from day to night and back again. Rockstar also notes that street crimes appear at their proper times. Free Roam therefore supplies an organic cycle and time-specific encounters, but not the broad, player-controlled skip function represented by Hogwarts Legacy.
Choose L.A. Noire if you want the city to feel temporally alive and are comfortable following its schedule. Do not choose it solely because a listing says it has a day/night cycle; the story campaign’s scripted clock is the important qualification.

Choose explicit skipping when darkness is mainly an inconvenience
Hogwarts Legacy is the most direct fit. You can check the World Map, use Wait when the prompt is available, and begin travel in the period you prefer. This is the right model for readers who do not want to manage enemy difficulty or time-gated content.

Choose a locked clock when you control a world or test environment
Minecraft Bedrock is the better fit when your priority is permanence. Always Day removes the cycle; LockTime lets you hold a selected preset. Confirm that you are working in the Bedrock Editor or a supported test-world workflow, because the cited documentation does not establish identical controls in every survival interface.
Choose strategic night when risk is part of the appeal
Days Gone treats darkness as a tactical trade-off. Daylight can make a route more manageable, but night is a meaningful state with more Freakers and changed Marauder behavior. The value comes from deciding whether the risk is worth taking.
Choose time-dependent content when both periods matter
Octopath Traveler II makes day and night alternate sets of activities. L.A. Noire’s Free Roam uses time to schedule street crimes, while its story clock remains scripted. These games are better for players who want a living schedule than for players seeking a universal “skip night” button.

Checks to make before buying or starting
- Confirm the mode: story, Free Roam, editor, test world, and ordinary play can expose different controls.
- Check the location: Hogwarts Legacy may hide Wait in some areas, and mission spaces can impose their own timing.
- Separate control from consequence: a natural cycle does not guarantee a skip command, and a skip command does not guarantee that every activity ignores time.
- Verify edition and platform: menus and editor availability can vary by edition; confirm the current version for your system before purchase.
- Decide whether night contains content: Octopath Traveler II uses the cycle for changing activities, while Days Gone uses it for danger. Removing night may remove part of the intended design.
Bottom line
For a straightforward way to travel in daylight, start with Hogwarts Legacy and its World Map Wait control. For a configurable world clock, Minecraft Bedrock offers Always Day, LockTime, and named presets in the Bedrock Editor documentation. Days Gone makes nighttime avoidable through cautious planning but more dangerous when you accept it. Octopath Traveler II makes the cycle an activity system, and L.A. Noire demonstrates why a day/night cycle alone is not proof that story travel can be skipped.
