To unlock Oogie Boogie in Disney Dreamlight Valley, unlock Peaceful Meadow, Scrooge McDuck’s Store, and Chez Remy, then enter the strange mirror in the store and start A Halloween Invasion before November 4, 2026. Oogie becomes a permanent Valley resident only after the six-quest sequence is complete. Zero is freed during The Ghost in the Portrait, while the Mirror Lair investigation and its five odd decorations are part of Rescue Mission.
The quests are released weekly, but once the first quest is accepted, every later quest remains in your log. You can therefore complete available follow-ups back to back rather than waiting seven days between objectives.
What you need before the Mirror Lair appears
The event is gated behind three Valley unlocks. You must have access to Peaceful Meadow, Scrooge McDuck’s Store, and Chez Remy. After those areas and buildings are available, enter the strange mirror inside Scrooge’s Store. That starts A Halloween Invasion, the first quest in Oogie Boogie’s chain.

Gameloft’s event guidance says that players who begin the first quest before November 4, 2026 can unlock Oogie Boogie and Zero at their own pace. After the first quest is in your log, subsequent quests stay available and can be completed consecutively.

Six quests, release dates, and known rewards
The sequence is designed as six weekly chapters. The table separates the scheduled release date from the practical requirement: the date tells you when the chapter was published, while the prerequisite tells you what must be finished in your quest log.

The first four chapters have documented objectives. The final two were scheduled, but their step-by-step requirements and individual rewards had not been published, so any guide claiming exact tasks for those chapters would be speculative.
Quest walkthrough
1. A Halloween Invasion: start the chain
- Confirm that Peaceful Meadow is unlocked and that Scrooge McDuck’s Store and Chez Remy are available.
- Go inside Scrooge McDuck’s Store and interact with the strange mirror.
- Accept A Halloween Invasion before November 4, 2026. Accepting it is the important deadline action; the later quests can remain in your log for completion after that date.
The mirror is the entry point for this event chain. If it is not interactable, check the three Valley requirements first rather than searching the biomes for a separate portal.

2. The Oogie Boogie Contract: masks, Ghosties, and stew
This chapter cannot begin until A Halloween Invasion is complete and the Lucky Wheel Ticket has been delivered in Oogie’s mailbox. Prepare the required equipment and ingredients before making repeated trips through the lair.

- Open your wardrobe and equip the Ghost Lantern.
- Equip one of the three event masks: Lock, Shock, or Barrel.
- Enter the Mirror Lair and collect three Ghosties.
- Release the Ghosties in Mickey’s House, Merlin’s Library, and Chez Remy. Treat these as three separate destinations; each named location is part of the objective.
- Catch the Ghostie that escapes after the releases.
- Return to Oogie.
- Cook Snake and Spider Stew using Mushy Banana, Oogie Boogie’s Eggs, and Super Salty Seaweed. The recipe requires one of each named ingredient.
If the objective does not advance, verify both equipment slots. The quest specifically calls for the Ghost Lantern and one of the Lock, Shock, or Barrel masks, not an arbitrary lantern or mask. Also check that all three Ghosties were released at the named buildings before returning to Oogie.
3. The Ghost in the Portrait: restore Zero
The portrait quest is a multi-stage investigation. Its state changes after you sabotage the wheel, so follow the sequence rather than trying to water the final portrait immediately.
- Inspect the Haunted Portrait and the lair memory.
- Obtain Oogie’s Lucky Wheel Ticket and speak with Scrooge.
- Plant the Plain Gift Box.
- Use your pickaxe to sabotage the Lucky Wheel.
- Collect five Lucky Wheel Cogs and Ghostly Paint Thinner.
- Use the watering can as directed. The trick resets the portrait, which creates the next investigation stage.
- Speak with Merlin.
- Find five Zero drawings.
- Collect five Zero Essence.
- Combine the Zero Essence with the other required material to make Real Ghostly Paint Thinner.
- Water the correct portrait with the Real Ghostly Paint Thinner.
Zero is freed when the correct portrait is restored. The important distinction is between the initial Ghostly Paint Thinner stage and the later Real Ghostly Paint Thinner stage: do not assume the first mixture completes the rescue.

After The Ghost in the Portrait, inspect five suspicious objects in the Mirror Lair. They are fixed environmental targets, so use the landmarks below instead of checking every prop at random.

Once all five are inspected, continue the investigation in the order below.
- Confront Oogie.
- Talk to Merlin.
- Equip Zero.
- Pick up Zero’s paper.
- At the lair firepit, fish a Lava Core and a Skeleton Fish.
- Ask Goofy for a fragrant perfectly tended flower.
- Gather 10 Dream Shards.
- Craft two Extra-Strength Bug Sprays.
- Give one spray to Merlin and one to Scrooge.
- Confront Oogie with the sprays.
The two sprays are a quantity requirement, not a single-item hand-in: craft two and distribute them to the two named characters. If the crafting objective remains incomplete, check that you have both firepit catches, the requested flower, and all 10 Dream Shards before attempting the hand-in.
5. Let the Games Begin and 6. Oogie Boogie’s Big Game
These chapters were scheduled for October 21 and October 28, respectively. Their detailed Mirror Lair actions, inventory requirements, and individual rewards had not been published. Keep the earlier quests complete and monitor the quest log for the new objectives. The final chapter is the point at which the six-quest requirement is fulfilled and Oogie Boogie becomes permanently available in the Valley.
What the event rewards include
The documented reward set spans cosmetic items, furnishings, materials, a companion character, and the final resident unlock:

The three masks are confirmed as released event rewards, but no quest-specific assignment has been published for which individual chapter grants each one.
Deadline, pacing, and common failure points
Starting after the weekly release
The release calendar is weekly, but the chain is not permanently locked to a one-week-per-quest pace once you have started it. Accepting A Halloween Invasion before November 4 preserves access to the follow-up quests in your log, allowing back-to-back completion when the relevant chapters are available.
The mirror or quest is missing
- Check Peaceful Meadow first.
- Confirm that you can enter Scrooge McDuck’s Store and Chez Remy.
- Look inside the store for the strange mirror; the event begins there.
- If the chain was never accepted before the deadline, the stated event guarantee does not apply.
Contract objectives do not advance
- Equip the Ghost Lantern and exactly one of the Lock, Shock, or Barrel masks.
- Confirm that three Ghosties were collected in the Mirror Lair.
- Release one Ghostie in each of Mickey’s House, Merlin’s Library, and Chez Remy.
- Catch the escaped Ghostie before returning to Oogie.
- Use Mushy Banana, Oogie Boogie’s Eggs, and Super Salty Seaweed for Snake and Spider Stew.
The portrait will not resolve
Complete the wheel sabotage and first watering step, then move to Merlin’s stage. The final restoration requires five Zero drawings, five Zero Essence, and Real Ghostly Paint Thinner; the initial Ghostly Paint Thinner is not the final mixture.

A decoration cannot be found
Use the staircases, window display, vault door, couch, clothing table, and firepit as orientation landmarks. The five targets are the podium, potion bottles, polar bear, wall lantern, and hanging plant listed above; inspect each one before leaving the lair.
