Short answer: choose an Oni Armament for the problem in front of you, not a universal damage tier. Use Earth-Shakers to break boss stamina and armor, The Two Celestials to create healing opportunities, Wind-Whipper against nearby groups, Firebird Flute for burn and stagger pressure, Oni Bow for ranged enemies and environmental mechanisms, Flashing Void for red-soul extraction, and Still Water for purple-soul extraction. The seven reported armaments are tied to the Oni Gauntlet and a limited combat resource, but the guides describe that resource differently, so do not assume every weapon is fueled in exactly the same way.
The locations below combine a full item guide reported as checked on patch 1.0 with a second location guide and Capcom’s preview material. They are guide-reported locations rather than an official Capcom item database. Two entries—The Two Celestials and Firebird Flute—have conflicting route descriptions and are flagged where you should verify the landmark in your own walkthrough.

What Oni Armaments do in Way of the Sword
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set in a dark-fantasy version of Kyoto at the beginning of the Edo period. Musashi carries the Oni Gauntlet while fighting Genma, and the armaments are special weapons connected to that gauntlet. Capcom’s announcement lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC as the platforms. The announcement is available in Capcom’s December 13, 2024 release.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Oni Armaments are not ordinary replacements for Musashi’s normal weapons. They are encounter tools: each one addresses a different tactical need, such as removing stamina, controlling a group, creating a healing pickup, attacking from range or extracting a particular soul color. Capcom’s preview also says souls help upgrade gear and unlock abilities. In that preview, Capcom Public Relations Manager Kyle Burleson writes that “Before long, Musashi plucks an Oni Bow from the wreckage of this realm.” Read the full context in the Capcom-authored PlayStation Blog preview.

The resource terminology is not consistent across guides
One guide describes the armaments as being fueled by blue souls, while another says most consume the Oni Power Gauge and explicitly identifies the Oni Bow as an exception that does not consume it. Because those descriptions are not identical, treat the in-game meter and pickup behavior as the authority for the specific armament you have equipped. It is safe to say that Oni Armaments are limited-use combat powers linked to the Oni Gauntlet; it is not safe to claim that every armament consumes the same resource in the same way.
There is also a timing risk. PC Gamer’s September 2026 review describes armaments as affecting enemy health, power souls or stamina, and warns that holding stored resource too long can let a boss take the souls. In practice, the best use is usually the opening that solves an immediate problem rather than a hypothetical perfect moment later.
At-a-glance: the best armament for each job
| Combat or exploration need | Recommended armament |
|---|---|
| Break a boss’s stamina or armor | Earth-Shakers |
| Create a chance to recover health | The Two Celestials |
| Hit several enemies around Musashi | Wind-Whipper |
| Burn and stagger targets | Firebird Flute |
| Answer ranged attacks or trigger distant mechanisms | Oni Bow |
| Extract red souls from defeated enemies | Flashing Void |
| Extract purple souls with powerful strikes | Still Water |
This is a role guide, not a measured damage ranking. The selection principles in the Onimusha Wiki armament tier-list article are presented cautiously because that article says its complete catalog still requires verification through play. The effects below therefore use the wording of the item guides rather than claiming a universal strongest weapon.
Best Oni Armaments by encounter role
Earth-Shakers: best for boss stamina and armor
Earth-Shakers are the clearest answer when a boss’s stamina bar or armor is stopping your normal damage. Vandal describes the paired hammers as greatly depleting stamina; one hit is described as removing around half of an enemy’s Stamina Gauge and destroying armor. That is an approximate guide description, not an official guaranteed percentage or a published performance statistic.
Use them when the fight is being prolonged by an armored phase or when you need to create a short interruption window. The value is control: a stamina break can make a dangerous opponent vulnerable at the point where ordinary attacks are least efficient. Do not treat the “around half” wording as a promise for every enemy, difficulty or patch.
The Two Celestials: best when healing is the priority
The Two Celestials are the healing-oriented choice. Vandal says hits from its special attack produce yellow souls that can be absorbed to recover health. That makes the armament useful before a long sequence, after a costly exchange or when a boss leaves little room to search for ordinary healing.
The weapon is most valuable when you can safely connect the special attack and then collect the yellow souls. It is not a claim of the highest raw damage; its advantage is converting a successful offensive action into a recovery opportunity.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Wind-Whipper: best for nearby groups and flame-assisted area attacks
Wind-Whipper creates a whirlwind described as a wide-area attack. Vandal also says nearby torches or open flames can ignite the whirlwind, giving the weapon extra value in arenas where a flame source is already present.
Choose it when several enemies are close enough to be covered by one area attack, especially if the battlefield contains a torch or another open flame. Its proximity requirement makes it less attractive for a lone distant target, but excellent for clearing pressure around Musashi.
Firebird Flute: best for burn and stagger pressure
Firebird Flute launches flaming birds that Vandal describes as burning and staggering enemies. This gives it two kinds of pressure at once: ongoing fire damage and the chance to disrupt an enemy’s action.
It is a strong choice when you need to interrupt a dangerous target or keep a group under status pressure while repositioning. The guide material does not provide an official damage value or a guaranteed stagger duration, so use those effects as tactical descriptions rather than fixed numbers.

Oni Bow: best for ranged enemies and environmental puzzles
Oni Bow is the most clearly documented utility armament. Capcom’s preview says Musashi finds it in the Oni Refuge, can use it to return fire against Genma archers and can trigger environmental mechanisms from a distance. That makes it the recommendation for an enemy you cannot safely reach and for a puzzle that places its switch or target outside normal melee range.
The Oni Bow is also the resource exception called out by the location guide: that guide says it does not consume the Oni Power Gauge, unlike most of the other armaments. Keep that exception attached to the bow rather than generalizing it to the whole set.
Flashing Void: best for heavy lightning damage and red souls
Flashing Void is a lightning spear. Vandal describes it as dealing heavy damage and extracting red souls from defeated enemies. Select it when red-soul generation is more useful to your build or immediate upgrade plan than healing or crowd control.
The armament’s role is offensive and resource-oriented. It is not described as a stamina-break tool like Earth-Shakers, so do not spend it expecting the same armor result from a boss.
Still Water: best for purple-soul extraction
Still Water delivers powerful strikes that Vandal associates with extracting purple souls. It is the targeted choice when purple souls are the resource you are trying to obtain.
Because its defining benefit is soul extraction, its best moment depends on what you need after the encounter. Use it against an enemy you can finish safely rather than burning the resource merely to add another ordinary hit to a fight.
All seven Oni Armament locations
The following routes follow Vandal’s full item guide and the separate Onimusha Guide location list. The separate guide says it was checked in the full game on patch 1.0. These are reported chest and story locations, not official Capcom database entries.
The Two Celestials
- Check the first treasure chest according to Vandal’s item guide.
- A second location guide instead places the armament at Kiyomizu-dera Temple after defeating the second Thread Genma at the second Oni gate.
Those descriptions do not align precisely on the chapter or chest. If the first chest is empty or the item is not where the broad route suggests, use the Kiyomizu-dera and second Oni-gate landmark as the alternate lead and verify the chapter-specific chest in a complete walkthrough before backtracking.
Oni Bow
- Enter the Oni Refuge route.
- Take the first chest in the refuge.
- If you are following the story rather than a chest list, look for the wreckage area where Capcom’s preview says Musashi finds the bow.
The chest number comes from the location guides; Capcom confirms the Oni Refuge setting and the bow’s ranged role but does not assign a chest number.
Wind-Whipper
- Start the mission titled The Oni’s Apprentice.
- Progress through the mission to the Skills practice grounds.
- Continue the story event after that practice area; the location guide reports Wind-Whipper as a story reward rather than a chest pickup.
Because this is a story event, search the mission progression rather than an optional treasure route.
Earth-Shakers
- Play What Lurks in the Shadows until you reach the Underground Laboratory.
- Go to Underground Level 4.
- Solve or pass the fan mechanism and check the chest beside it.
The fan mechanism and Level 4 details are the landmarks supplied by the second location guide. If you are searching by room name only, the fan is the most useful visual checkpoint.
Rank #3

Firebird Flute
- Search for Treasure #45 in Eastern Kyoto.
- Use the Gojo Street East Spirit Shrine as the route landmark.
- The alternate guide places the treasure south of that shrine, at the location where the Rift had been.
The two descriptions differ in precision rather than giving a single identical route. Confirm the Rift and shrine landmarks against the walkthrough for your chapter before committing to a long detour.

Flashing Void
- Travel to Mount Oe.
- Take the side route near Castle Courtyard.
- Enter the cave containing Treasure #4.
- Use the sliding access described by the second guide to reach the cave.
The cave is off the main route, so a direct push through Castle Courtyard can leave the chest behind.
Still Water
- Go to Arashiyama.
- Search the northeastern swamp and move toward the northeast corner.
- Enter the cave containing Treasure #5.
- Expect miasma to block the route according to the second location guide; clear or bypass that obstruction before assuming the cave is inaccessible.
Both guides place Still Water in the northeastern cave, making this one of the more consistent locations in the list.

1. Identify the problem, not the enemy’s name
Ask whether the encounter is actually stopping you with armor, crowd density, distance, missing health or a soul-color objective. Earth-Shakers answer stamina and armor; Wind-Whipper answers proximity and numbers; Oni Bow answers distance and mechanisms. Choosing by the obstacle is more reliable than carrying a supposed all-purpose winner.
2. Match the armament to the arena
Look for the environmental condition that improves a weapon. Wind-Whipper gains an ignition opportunity near torches or open flames. Oni Bow gains value wherever an archer or a distant mechanism is present. A weapon’s context can matter more than a general damage label.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
3. Spend limited resource before it becomes a liability
PC Gamer’s review describes the risk of waiting too long with stored souls or gauge because a boss can take them. Use an armament when it creates a concrete opening—such as a stamina break, a stagger, a safe heal pickup or a ranged solution—instead of saving indefinitely for an ideal animation.
4. Watch what the specific armament consumes
The guide terminology differs between blue souls and the Oni Power Gauge, and Oni Bow is specifically described as not consuming the gauge. Check the meter and pickup behavior after equipping a weapon, then budget the resource around that observed behavior. This avoids wasting a different soul supply on an assumption borrowed from another armament.
5. Convert the result into progression
Capcom’s preview says souls help upgrade gear and unlock abilities. If an armament extracts or creates a particular soul color, decide whether the immediate combat effect or the resulting upgrade is more valuable before using it. The correct choice can change between a boss attempt and an exploration route.
Which armament should you carry for common situations?
- A heavily armored boss: start with Earth-Shakers when the stamina or armor bar is the barrier to progress.
- A boss who leaves you injured: use The Two Celestials when you can safely land the special attack and collect yellow souls.
- Several enemies pressing at melee range: choose Wind-Whipper, especially if a torch or open flame is nearby.
- A dangerous target that must be interrupted: Firebird Flute offers the guide-described burn and stagger combination.
- Genma archers or a distant switch: Oni Bow is the purpose-built ranged and puzzle solution.
- A red-soul objective: Flashing Void is the guide-described red-soul extractor.
- A purple-soul objective: Still Water is the guide-described purple-soul extractor.
What is confirmed, and what should be treated cautiously?
The seven-name catalog—The Two Celestials, Oni Bow, Wind-Whipper, Earth-Shakers, Firebird Flute, Flashing Void and Still Water—comes from post-release guides. The full-game location guide reports patch 1.0 verification, but the locations are still editorial guide reports rather than official Capcom documentation.
There is no published official armament performance table in the cited material. The only named combat figure is Vandal’s approximate statement that one Earth-Shakers hit can remove around half of an enemy’s Stamina Gauge; retain the “around” qualification and do not convert it into a guaranteed statistic. Likewise, do not turn the tier-list article into a definitive ranking: it says its complete catalog still needs verification through play.
One location guide says some missed chests may require chapter select, but that detail was not corroborated by the other opened guide. Treat chapter select as a possible recovery option rather than a guaranteed rule, and record chest locations as you progress so a missed item is easier to retrace.
Bottom line for choosing the best Oni Armament
There is no single best Oni Armament for every fight. Earth-Shakers are the practical boss-control pick, The Two Celestials are the healing pick, Wind-Whipper and Firebird Flute cover nearby crowd pressure, Oni Bow solves range and environmental mechanisms, and Flashing Void and Still Water serve different soul-color goals. Collect the weapons as their story and chest routes become available, then spend their limited resource when it solves the encounter in front of you rather than waiting until a boss can take the stored souls.
