If your OnePlus phone will not charge, charges slowly, or becomes unusually hot, start with the outlet, cable, adapter, temperature, and current workload. Use a charger and cable approved for your exact model, stop demanding apps while charging, and let the phone cool naturally. If the battery is distorted, leaking, damaged, or abnormally hot, stop using the phone and contact OnePlus support or an authorized service center instead of continuing to troubleshoot.
First decide whether this is a charging fault or a safety problem
A warm phone during charging is not automatically defective. Charging converts some electrical energy into heat, and the phone may become warmer when the screen is on, demanding apps are running, the signal is weak, or the charging system is working at high speed. The important distinction is between ordinary operating warmth and a battery or device that is dangerously hot, damaged, swollen, distorted, or leaking.
Stop immediately if the battery or phone looks abnormal
- Discontinue use and unplug the phone if it becomes abnormally hot, develops a bulge or other distortion, or shows signs of liquid or battery leakage.
- Do not squeeze, puncture, bend, open, or mechanically damage the phone or its battery.
- Do not attempt an internal battery replacement or port repair yourself. Contact OnePlus customer support or a service center for instructions.
- If the phone or charging accessory has visible damage, do not keep testing it. A damaged cable, adapter, plug, or phone can create an electrical and fire risk.
OnePlus safety guidance treats high battery temperature, distortion, leakage, and product damage as reasons to stop using the device and seek service. Troubleshooting below is intended for a phone that is intact and safe to handle.

What the temperature recommendations mean
OnePlus publishes more than one temperature recommendation because the documents address different goals. Its battery-life and safety guidance recommends charging in a ventilated environment from 5°C to 35°C. A separate OnePlus India support article recommends 15°C to 35°C as a preferred range for charging speed. These are manufacturer recommendations for different contexts, not a guarantee that every OnePlus model behaves identically.
#1 Best Overall
- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
| Condition or range | How to interpret it |
|---|---|
| 5°C–35°C | OnePlus charging-environment guidance in battery and safety material. Keep the phone in a ventilated place within this ambient range when charging. |
| 15°C–35°C | Preferred range cited by OnePlus India for charging speed. Charging can still occur outside this preferred range, but speed may be reduced. |
| Below 15°C or above 35°C | OnePlus says flash charging may not activate in these conditions. Slow charging alone does not prove a failed charger or battery. |
Move the phone out of direct sunlight, a hot car, a bed, or any enclosed space that traps heat. Let it return toward room temperature naturally. Do not put a hot phone in a refrigerator or freezer; condensation and rapid temperature changes can damage electronics.
Follow this charging-path check in order
Work from the wall outlet toward the phone. Changing one variable at a time makes it easier to identify the failing part and avoids replacing accessories unnecessarily.
- Try a different wall outlet. Use a known-working outlet in a dry location. If the phone charges from one outlet but not another, the original outlet, power strip, or extension lead is the likely problem.
- Inspect the adapter and cable. Look for frayed insulation, bent contacts, cracked plastic, scorch marks, looseness, or signs of liquid. Do not use a damaged accessory, even if it occasionally works.
- Check the phone’s USB-C port visually. Pocket lint or debris can prevent the plug from seating fully. Hold the port under good light and look for obstruction. Never insert a metal tool, pin, liquid, or other object into the port.
- Reconnect firmly. Remove and reinsert the cable so the connector is fully seated at both ends. A plug that feels loose or falls out easily can indicate debris, a worn cable, or port damage.
- Test a known-good, approved combination. If available, use a OnePlus or manufacturer-approved adapter and cable verified for the exact phone model and market. OnePlus warns against unsafe or incorrect-voltage chargers. Do not choose a replacement solely because its advertised wattage is higher.
- Observe the result without using the phone heavily. Leave the screen off for several minutes. Note whether a charging icon appears, the battery percentage rises, and the phone remains within a normal temperature range.
These checks separate an external charging-path problem from an internal phone fault. They also avoid a common mistake: assuming that any USB-C charger supports the same charging mode as the phone.
Account for heat and power use while charging
Charging may appear to fail when the phone is consuming power almost as quickly as the adapter supplies it. OnePlus materials identify several possible contributors to heat or high power draw:
Rank #2
- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Games and other processor-intensive apps
- Video playback or large file transfers
- High screen brightness or prolonged screen-on time
- Navigation using location services
- Mobile-hotspot use
- Many background apps
- Poor cellular or Wi-Fi signal, which makes the phone work harder to maintain a connection
These are possible contributors, not a diagnosis. To test for them, stop the game or transfer, turn off hotspot and navigation, reduce brightness, close demanding apps, and place the phone in a ventilated location. If the battery begins rising normally after the workload stops, the charging hardware may be functioning while the previous workload was consuming much of the incoming power.
Use a simple cooling procedure
- Unplug the phone if it is noticeably hot.
- Remove a thick case temporarily if it is trapping heat.
- Move the phone away from direct sun and heat-producing surfaces.
- Stop games, video recording, navigation, hotspot use, and large transfers.
- Allow the phone to cool naturally in moving air at a safe room temperature.
- Reconnect the approved charger only after the phone is comfortable to hold and the environment is within OnePlus guidance.
Do not cover the phone with bedding or clothing while charging. Do not force cooling with ice, a freezer, or a refrigerator.
When ordinary charging works but fast charging does not
Separate “the phone will not charge” from “the phone charges, but flash or fast charging does not start.” If the battery percentage rises with a compatible setup, the basic charging path is working even if the high-speed mode is unavailable.

Do not infer compatibility from a wattage number alone. A higher-rated adapter may still charge at a lower mode, and an adapter intended for another model or region may not provide the expected flash-charging behavior. Compare a replacement by:
- Exact OnePlus phone-model compatibility
- Regional electrical and charging compatibility
- Manufacturer approval or inclusion with the phone
- Whether the required adapter and cable are both included
- The charging mode the phone actually supports with that combination
Check the port and accessories without causing damage
Debris and poor contact
A dirty socket can create intermittent charging, a connector that disconnects when touched, or a phone that repeatedly starts and stops charging. Inspect first; do not scrape the port with a pin, paper clip, knife, or other metal object. Do not pour cleaner or water into it. If debris is packed inside and cannot be removed safely without contact damage, have a service center clean and inspect the port.
Cable and adapter faults
A cable can fail internally even when its outer jacket looks perfect. A known-good test cable is useful, but it should be approved for the exact model and charging mode. Test the adapter and cable together, then test a second approved combination if one is available. If only one cable works, replace the faulty accessory; if none work and the outlet is known-good, the phone needs further diagnosis.

Restart, update, and review recent software changes
If the phone accepts a charge but becomes hot, drains unusually fast, or began behaving differently after an app or system change, software may be increasing background activity. OnePlus troubleshooting guidance recommends reviewing recently installed apps, updating the software, and restarting.
- Review recent installations. Think about when the problem began. If it followed a newly installed or updated app, uninstall that app temporarily and observe charging behavior. Reinstall only if the problem does not return and the app is trusted.
- Install pending system updates. Open Settings and use the system-update option; wording and menu location vary by OxygenOS version and model. Install updates over a reliable connection with adequate battery power, following the on-screen instructions.
- Restart the phone. A restart can clear a stuck process that is keeping the processor, network radio, or screen active. After rebooting, test charging before reopening demanding apps.
- Check battery usage. In Settings, open the battery section and look for an app with unusual background use. Restrict or remove a problematic app only after considering whether it is essential to your work.
- Reserve a factory reset for last. OnePlus presents resetting only after other troubleshooting. Back up photos, messages, authenticator data, and other important information first. Confirm the exact model’s reset path and account requirements because menu labels vary.
A reset erases personal data; it cannot repair a damaged port, battery, adapter, or cable. If the phone is physically unsafe, skip software troubleshooting and seek service.
Use symptoms to choose the next action
| What you observe | Most useful next check | Stop and seek service when |
|---|---|---|
| No charging icon or battery increase | Test another outlet, inspect accessories and port, then try an approved model-compatible charger and cable. | The phone or port is damaged, smells burnt, becomes abnormally hot, or remains completely unresponsive with known-good equipment. |
| Charging starts and stops when the cable moves | Try another approved cable and inspect the port visually for debris or looseness. | The port is physically loose, bent, corroded, or obstructed in a way that cannot be safely cleared. |
| Slow charging in a cold or hot environment | Move to the manufacturer-recommended temperature range and stop heavy workloads. | Slow charging persists in a ventilated 15°C–35°C environment with compatible equipment, or heat is abnormal. |
| Ordinary charging works but flash charging does not | Check whether temperature is below 15°C or above 35°C, then verify exact model, adapter, and cable compatibility. | Fast charging never returns under suitable conditions with approved equipment and current software. |
| Phone heats while idle or after an app change | Review battery usage, remove a recently installed app, update, and restart. | Heat is accompanied by swelling, distortion, leakage, damage, or an inability to handle the phone safely. |
When to contact OnePlus support or repair
Contact official regional support when external checks, a safe temperature, and software troubleshooting do not resolve the problem. Support and repair availability, service-center locations, spare parts, and procedures vary by country, model, and date; use the support page for the market where the phone was purchased or is being used.
Before contacting support, record:
- The exact model name and regional variant
- OxygenOS version and recent update history
- Whether ordinary charging works, and whether fast charging works
- The adapter and cable models tested
- The outlet and temperature conditions during testing
- Whether the problem began after an app installation, drop, liquid exposure, or other event
- Any warning message, charging icon behavior, unusual odor, swelling, or visible damage
Back up data while the phone is still safe and functional. Do not continue charging a device that is distorted, leaking, severely hot, or physically damaged merely to complete a backup; ask support for safe handling instructions.

Choosing a replacement charger or cable
A replacement is reasonable when the existing accessory is visibly damaged or fails a controlled test against a known-good setup. Choose an original or manufacturer-approved adapter and cable that are explicitly compatible with the exact OnePlus model and region. Confirm whether the phone requires a particular cable for its highest supported charging mode.
Buying an accessory cannot fix an internal charging-port, battery, or power-management fault. If two safe, compatible charging combinations fail in a known-good outlet, stop cycling through random high-wattage products and arrange a diagnosis.
What is not established by the available guidance
OnePlus publishes operating recommendations and troubleshooting steps, but the cited material does not provide a general percentage of OnePlus phones that overheat or stop charging. Temperature figures are manufacturer guidance, not failure-rate statistics. A model-specific manual or regional support page should take precedence over assumptions based on another OnePlus model.
