It may be worth trying for a demanding game or app, but there is no documented evidence that it reliably makes a OnePlus phone faster or gaming smoother. OnePlus says the mode increases power consumption, without quantifying the battery cost. Leave it off if your phone already feels responsive or battery life matters more; test it on your own device if you notice a specific performance problem.
What does High performance mode do?
OnePlus describes the setting as keeping the system in a high-performance mode and warns that it increases extra power consumption. The Android 12 system manual phrases this as: “The system always operates in a high-performance mode, but it will increase extra power consumption.” OnePlus Android 12 System Introduction and the OnePlus 10 Pro User Manual document the feature.
The manuals do not explain the underlying processor or graphics settings, promise a particular frame rate, or measure how much faster the phone becomes. They also give no battery-life estimate or temperature comparison. So the documented tradeoff is higher power consumption; a measurable speed or gaming benefit is not established.
Does it help with gaming?
It might help with a demanding game on a particular phone, but OnePlus’s manuals do not test gaming with the setting on and off. There is no supported basis here for promising smoother gameplay, higher frame rates, or better benchmark results. Whether you notice a benefit depends on your phone, game, software, and the conditions in which you play.

OnePlus discusses other gaming and performance technologies separately. Its OxygenOS 13 page describes HyperBoost gaming modes; its 2023 OxygenOS 14 announcement describes CPU Vitalization; and its 2025 gaming-technology announcement discusses OP Gaming Core and related technologies for named devices. Those claims concern separate features and do not show what the general High performance mode toggle does on your phone.
Should you turn it on?
- Consider testing it if a demanding game or app feels constrained and you want to see whether the experience changes.
- Leave it off if your phone already feels fast or you would rather avoid the documented increase in power consumption.
- Do not assume it will fix a problem. The official documentation does not establish that the setting improves responsiveness, frame stability, or any particular task.
How to compare it on your own phone
Use the same task and similar conditions for each comparison. For example, play the same game for a comparable period, first with the setting off and then on. Pay attention to responsiveness or frame stability, battery use over that period, and whether the phone feels comfortable to hold. These observations can help you decide whether the tradeoff is worthwhile for you; they are not a controlled test of the feature.

Do not treat warmth during a demanding session as proof that this toggle caused it. OnePlus’s manuals do not report a temperature effect for High performance mode.

OnePlus’s Android 12 documentation gives this path: Settings > Battery > Advanced settings > High performance mode. The OnePlus 10 Pro manual is a model-specific OxygenOS 12 reference, not a guarantee that every OnePlus phone has the same menu or option.
