A leak attributed to tipster Yogesh Brar says the OnePlus 16R is being tested with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, three 50MP rear cameras, a 165Hz display and a battery larger than 7,500mAh. Android Authority and Smartprix reported those claims on October 12, 2026, but OnePlus has not confirmed the phone or its specifications. Treat them as early hardware indications, not a final product spec sheet. Android Authority Smartprix
What the OnePlus 16R leak claims
Smartprix reproduced a post attributed to Brar that identifies the device as a “PVT” unit—a production-validation-test reference—and lists the headline hardware. Android Authority also reports the claims. Because both articles attribute them to the same tipster, their coverage is not independent confirmation. A PVT-stage configuration can still change before mass production, as Android Authority notes.
| Reported detail | What is known so far |
|---|---|
| Processor | Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, according to the leak reported by Android Authority and Smartprix. |
| Rear cameras | Three 50MP cameras, reportedly including a telephoto camera. The report gives no sensor models or telephoto zoom level. Smartprix |
| Display | A 165Hz panel, as reported by Android Authority and Smartprix. |
| Battery | More than 7,500mAh, according to Android Authority and Smartprix. |
| Testing identity | Brar’s post reportedly says the same hardware is also being tested under realme branding; that does not establish the final product name or retail configuration. Smartprix |
What the camera claim does—and does not—tell us
The reported return of a dedicated telephoto would be a notable change in camera flexibility if it reaches the retail phone. Android Authority says the OnePlus 15R did not have a telephoto camera, while the 16R leak describes one as part of a triple-50MP setup. However, megapixel counts alone do not establish image quality, and the leak provides no lens zoom range, sensor sizes, stabilization details or camera samples. Android Authority Smartprix
What the Snapdragon chip could offer
Qualcomm describes the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform as including a third-generation Oryon CPU, an Adreno GPU, an X85 5G modem-RF system and triple 20-bit image signal processors. Those are platform-level capabilities, not proof of the exact components or performance OnePlus would deliver in this phone. Qualcomm notes that platform versions can differ, and the device maker’s implementation matters. No OnePlus 16R benchmark, network test, battery-life result or camera test is established by the reports, so the chip name alone cannot predict real-world performance or endurance. How the reported details compare with the OnePlus 15R
The leak suggests a mixed comparison rather than a clear upgrade across every headline spec. These are reported figures, not results from a direct test.
| Feature | OnePlus 15R | OnePlus 16R claim |
|---|---|---|
| Battery capacity | 7,400mAh, as cited by Android Authority. | More than 7,500mAh, according to the leak. |
| Display refresh rate | 165Hz, according to Android Authority. | 165Hz, according to the leak; the rate would match the 15R rather than exceed it. |
| Rear telephoto | No telephoto camera, according to Android Authority. | Reportedly included, but zoom level and sensor details are unknown. |
Android Authority’s leak report covers the 15R comparison and the 16R claims. A capacity increase, if confirmed, would not by itself establish longer battery life; that depends on the finished phone and its use.

Launch timing, price, software and availability remain unsettled
Smartprix describes India as the likely market and says earlier projections pointed to December 2026 or early 2027, a price around ₹70,000 and ColorOS 17. Those are expectations, not confirmed launch information or a published price. Android Authority reports that the US and Europe remain out of the equation, but OnePlus has not announced a market list. Smartprix Android Authority
