There is no official OnePlus 16R update policy yet. As of 18 October 2026, OnePlus has not listed a OnePlus 16R in its Product Security Update Period information and has not published the phone’s Android-version upgrade count, security-update end date, launch date, or regional software schedule. OnePlus does publish a general minimum of three years of security updates for smartphones and tablets after launch, but that baseline is not a model-specific 16R promise.

That means Android 17, Android 18 and later versions cannot be confirmed for the 16R. The support end date shown for the OnePlus 15R—31 December 2031—belongs to that model only. It must not be transferred to an unannounced 16R. The most accurate answer is a status answer: OnePlus has not officially announced a OnePlus 16R or published a model-specific support schedule as of 18 October 2026. The company’s Product Security Update Period page lists released products, including the OnePlus 15R, but contains no OnePlus 16R row. Without a product listing or launch statement, there is no authoritative date from which to calculate support and no enforceable promise for a particular number of Android upgrades.

OnePlus’s current Product Security Update Period page says: For the Smartphones and Tablets, we pledge to provide security updates for a minimum of three (3) years following the product launch. The wording establishes a floor for security maintenance once a device has actually launched. It does not identify the 16R’s launch date, final patch date, monthly or quarterly cadence, or the Android releases it will receive.

Security updates are not the same as Android upgrades

A security-support term covers patches intended to address security vulnerabilities. An Android-version upgrade changes the operating system generation and may include new APIs, interface changes and feature requirements. The three-year statement does not say how many Android-version upgrades a phone receives. A device could therefore have a published security period while its major-version schedule remains unspecified.

The clock starts with the product launch

The policy measures the minimum period from product launch. Because OnePlus has not published a 16R launch date, readers cannot calculate a reliable end date by adding three years to a rumor, an expected announcement month or the date a listing appears online. Wait for OnePlus to identify the launch date used for the support calculation.

Do not copy the 15R date onto the 16R
