OnePlus officially specifies adaptive 1–120Hz refresh, with a maximum 165Hz in gaming—not a documented, always-on 165Hz setting for the entire phone. For per-app requests, the third-party 165 Armer project says it can select up to 165Hz without root on specified OnePlus 15 models running OxygenOS 16. That method relies on an undocumented interface and may stop working after an update.
What 165Hz means on the OnePlus 15
OnePlus lists the display as “1-120Hz Adaptive, Maximum 165Hz in gaming” on its official specifications page. Its US product page describes a 6.78-inch LTPO 1.5K display with dynamic refresh up to 165Hz, and attributes display data to the OnePlus Test Laboratory. Neither page documents a system-wide switch that keeps every screen at 165Hz.
Refresh rate, measured in hertz (Hz), is how often the display updates. Game frame rate, measured in frames per second (FPS), is how many images a game renders each second. OnePlus’s separate claim of always-on 120 FPS for MLBB under stated laboratory conditions is a game-performance claim; it does not establish a universal 165Hz display mode.
Choose between official behavior and a third-party app
| Option | What it supports | Important limits |
|---|---|---|
| Official OnePlus behavior | Adaptive 1–120Hz, with a maximum 165Hz in gaming, according to OnePlus’s specifications. | The official pages reviewed do not give a global always-on 165Hz setting or an exact settings path. |
| 165 Armer | The project claims per-app choices of 60, 90, 120, 144, and 165Hz without root on OnePlus 15 CPH2747/CPH2749 running OxygenOS 16. | It uses an undocumented OnePlus interface. Compatibility is a project claim, not an independently verified result, and an OxygenOS update may block it. |
How to request 165Hz with 165 Armer
The steps below reflect the project’s published flow, not an independently tested installation. The project describes 165 Armer as a rootless per-app refresh-rate tool for OnePlus 15 models CPH2747 and CPH2749 on OxygenOS 16. It says root, Magisk, and bootloader unlocking are not required.

- Read the 165 Armer README and confirm that your model and OxygenOS version match the configuration the project claims to support.
- Install the APK referenced by the project documentation. The README does not establish that the method works on other models, regions, or software versions.
- Open 165 Armer, select an app, and choose 165Hz. The project says it offers 60, 90, 120, 144, and 165Hz options.
- If you arm more than eight apps, grant Usage Access if prompted; the project says this permission is needed only above that threshold.
The README says the app restores armed apps after reboot and uses a watchdog. Treat these as the maintainer’s stated behaviors rather than guarantees for every firmware build.
Why the method may stop working
According to the project README, the app calls OnePlus’s undocumented IOplusScreenMode.requestGameRefreshRate interface. It says transaction numbers can differ between firmware builds and that it detects those differences at launch. Because the interface is undocumented, OnePlus software updates may block it; the project does not establish compatibility across every region, firmware build, or future OxygenOS release.

Battery, heat, and troubleshooting
The project’s README warns that higher refresh rates increase battery use and heat, but does not quantify either effect. It also advises selecting 60Hz if a video app judders. If an app remains pinned at a high rate after disarming it, the project says to reboot. These are the maintainer’s caveats and recovery suggestions, not measured outcomes.
- Video judders: Set that app to 60Hz, following the project’s advice.
- An app stays pinned after disarming: Reboot, as the README recommends.
- The setting has no effect after an update: The undocumented interface may have changed or been blocked; the project does not document a guaranteed workaround.
What to expect
Use OnePlus’s official 165Hz gaming specification as the dependable statement of the phone’s supported behavior. 165 Armer offers a possible rootless, per-app request for the project’s stated OxygenOS 16 configuration, but its undocumented technical basis and update sensitivity make it an unofficial, version-dependent option—not a confirmed way to force every part of the OnePlus 15 interface to 165Hz.
