The OnePlus 13R is a large-screen Android phone built around strong performance, long battery life, and a useful 2× telephoto camera. Its 6,000mAh battery and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform are appealing, but the 8MP ultrawide camera, lack of wireless charging, and 206g body are meaningful trade-offs. Whether it is a good buy now depends on its current price and how much you value endurance over camera consistency and compact size.
What is the OnePlus 13R?
OnePlus announced the 13R alongside the OnePlus 13 on January 7, 2025. It launched with OxygenOS 15 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The North American model listed by OnePlus has 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage; launch configurations differed by region, with up to 16GB of RAM in India and 12GB in North America and Europe. Those are launch-era details, not confirmation of every current retail bundle. OnePlus’s launch announcement and its North American specification page provide the regional context.
OnePlus 13R specifications
| Feature | North American specification |
|---|---|
| Display | 6.78-inch LTPO 4.1 panel, 2780 × 1264 resolution, 450ppi, and dynamic 1–120Hz refresh rate; OnePlus lists a peak brightness of 4,500 nits. |
| Processor | Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 |
| Memory and storage | 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.0 storage |
| Battery | 6,000mAh typical capacity; 5,860mAh rated capacity on OnePlus’s specification page |
| Wired charging | 55W SUPERVOOC in North America; OnePlus’s launch announcement lists 80W in most other launch regions |
| Rear cameras | 50MP main camera with Sony LYT-700 sensor and OIS; 50MP telephoto with 2× optical zoom; 8MP ultrawide |
| Dimensions and weight | 161.72 × 75.77 × 8.02mm; 206g |
| Materials and rating | Aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass 7i, and IP65 rating according to OnePlus’s launch announcement |
The 4,500-nit figure is a manufacturer-listed peak, not a typical-brightness measurement. Tom’s Guide measured 746 nits in its HDR brightness test. The IP65 designation is a manufacturer rating for dust protection and water jets; it does not mean the phone is safe to submerge. Check the charging rate and whether an adapter is included for the exact country and seller before buying.

Fast performance for demanding use
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is a flagship-generation chip, and the phone has ample RAM and fast storage in the North American configuration. In Tom’s Guide’s 2025 review tests, it scored 2,098 single-core and 6,533 multicore in Geekbench 6, and 115.3fps in 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited. These are results from that publication’s tests, not guaranteed scores for every device or workload. For everyday use, the platform should suit multitasking and demanding games, though actual game performance depends on the title, settings, and heat.

Excellent endurance in one published test
Tom’s Guide reported 18 hours and 49 minutes for the 13R in its 2025 continuous cellular web-browsing battery test, 37 minutes longer than the OnePlus 12R result in the same test. That controlled test is a useful comparison under one method, not a prediction of a person’s daily runtime: screen settings, signal, apps, and gaming can change battery life substantially.
Large, sharp, adaptive display
The 6.78-inch, 2780 × 1264 display offers a high resolution and a dynamic refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. Its size is well suited to video, reading, and games, while adaptive refresh can reduce unnecessary screen updates. Tom’s Guide found the display viewable in sunlight during its use, although its HDR lab result was far below the advertised peak-brightness number; the two figures describe different kinds of measurement.
Three rear cameras, including a dedicated telephoto
The 50MP 2× optical telephoto adds framing flexibility that a main-camera-only setup would lack. OnePlus also describes in-sensor zoom processing beyond 4× in its launch announcement. Tom’s Guide found that the phone could produce vivid, attractive pictures and sometimes handled night lights well, but noted variation from image to image.

What to consider before buying
Camera processing is not consistently the best choice for every scene
Tom’s Guide found the 13R tended to produce brighter, more colorful images. In some of its comparisons, the reviewer preferred the Pixel 8a for low-light detail, 2× zoom detail, and portraits. Those are review-specific judgments about particular scenes, not a universal camera ranking. If portrait rendering or consistent low-light detail matters more to you than vivid output and a dedicated telephoto, compare sample photos from current alternatives before deciding.
The ultrawide is the most limited rear camera on paper
The ultrawide camera has an 8MP sensor, compared with 50MP for both the main and telephoto cameras. That gap makes it the least ambitious part of the rear-camera system, especially for people who frequently shoot wide landscapes or group scenes.
No wireless charging
The 13R supports wired SUPERVOOC charging but not wireless charging, a trade-off noted by Tom’s Guide. If you rely on a wireless charging pad, you will need to change that routine or choose another phone.

Its size may be uncomfortable for some hands
At 206g and 161.72mm tall, with a 6.78-inch screen, this is a substantial handset. One-handed reach and pocket comfort are personal, but people who prefer compact phones should handle it in person if possible. Tom’s Guide also noted the size challenge for smaller hands.
Price and value: use current listings, not launch prices
Tom’s Guide recorded launch prices of $599 for the 256GB model in the U.S. and £679 in the U.K. in its January 2025 review. Those are historical launch figures, not current prices. The sources consulted do not establish today’s price, stock, or availability, so check a current listing in your region and verify the seller and configuration before using price to judge value. Tom’s Guide also noted that a lower-cost 128GB version available with the predecessor was not offered at the 13R’s launch.
At a price that makes its performance and battery capacity attractive beside alternatives, the 13R is most compelling for buyers who prioritize speed, a large adaptive screen, and endurance. A smaller discount—or a price close to a camera-focused rival—makes its camera compromises and lack of wireless charging harder to overlook. That value judgment should use the price you can actually buy it for, not the launch figure.
OnePlus 13R verdict: who should buy it?
Choose the OnePlus 13R if you want a fast Android phone with a large, high-resolution display, a generous battery, and a dedicated 2× telephoto, and you are comfortable with a large, heavy device and wired-only charging. Look elsewhere if compact handling, wireless charging, a stronger ultrawide, or more dependable camera results across varied scenes matter most. Before purchasing, confirm the regional configuration, current price, and included charger; software version and update-support duration are not established by the cited specifications and launch coverage.
