If OneNote on your Pixel 9a shows error tag 9hehw, the available evidence does not establish a Pixel 9a or Android 17-specific cause or an official fix for that code. Microsoft Q&A users have reported the tag in Android sign-in discussions, while Microsoft’s published guidance covers general account and sync troubleshooting. Check the account and follow those general steps, but protect notes before trying disruptive changes.
What does OneNote error 9hehw mean?
Users have reported OneNote for Android sign-in failures with messages including “Access denied for the resource,” tag 9hehw, and code 0. A Microsoft Q&A discussion includes a report from a Pixel 9 user, but it does not verify the exact Pixel 9a running Android 17 combination. These community posts document individual experiences; they do not confirm a Microsoft-diagnosed cause or a fix that works for everyone. See the Microsoft Q&A discussion.

Check that OneNote is using the intended account
Microsoft documents general sign-in steps for OneNote on Android, including choosing another listed account or entering an account that is not listed. Use the account-selection flow to verify which account OneNote is trying to use. Choose a different account only if it is the one you intend to use; do not assume changing accounts will resolve error 9hehw. Microsoft’s OneNote for Android sign-in guidance.
Try Microsoft’s general sync troubleshooting
Microsoft’s OneNote sync troubleshooting guidance notes that some sync errors can result from a temporary server issue and provides general app and sign-in steps. It does not identify the cause of 9hehw. Follow the guidance that matches your symptoms, and treat a temporary service issue as one possible general explanation—not a confirmed diagnosis for your device. Microsoft’s OneNote sync troubleshooting guidance.
Protect notes before taking disruptive steps
Before clearing app data, signing out, or reinstalling OneNote, confirm that important notes are available through another device that is already working or through OneNote on the web. The available Microsoft guidance and user reports do not establish that these actions are safe or effective for every person seeing 9hehw. Avoid treating cache-clearing or reinstalling anecdotes as a guaranteed fix.
When the error continues
If the account check and Microsoft’s general troubleshooting do not help, contact Microsoft support and provide the details you recorded. The available sources do not confirm an official incident, affected-device or Android-version list, or current resolution status for 9hehw on a Pixel 9a running Android 17. Do not assume a backend rollout or device-specific outage without an authoritative notice.
