First, work out what “won’t update” means: an OneDrive app update stuck in the App Store is different from files or camera uploads failing to sync. The fixes for syncing—such as resetting OneDrive—are not established fixes for an App Store download problem. Note your iPhone model, iOS version, OneDrive version, exact error, and which kind of update is affected.
Identify what is not updating
- The app will not install an App Store update: Check whether your iPhone meets OneDrive’s iOS requirements and record the App Store error. Microsoft’s iOS troubleshooting guidance does not provide a complete flow for fixing App Store downloads, so do not expect a sync reset to resolve an installation failure.
- Files or camera uploads are stale: Check the connection, Microsoft storage, and the account selected in OneDrive, then try the app’s reset procedure.
- OneDrive will not open or keeps crashing: Microsoft recommends reinstalling the app if its iOS troubleshooting steps do not resolve the problem. Apple’s restart instructions can also help you restart your specific device and iOS version.

Check iOS compatibility and connectivity
Confirm the iOS requirement
Microsoft’s system requirements page, last updated June 23, 2026, lists iOS 18.0 or later for OneDrive on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Requirements can change, so check the current OneDrive system requirements before drawing a conclusion. Microsoft notes that a device below the stated minimum may only be able to update the OneDrive app.
Test the connection and mobile-data settings
For sync or upload trouble, confirm that the iPhone has a working internet connection. Some apps or features may require Wi-Fi, depending on iPhone settings or your mobile plan. If OneDrive works on Wi-Fi but not mobile data, check the device’s mobile-data settings and your plan before resetting the app.

Microsoft’s general mobile troubleshooting guidance also notes that lengthy camera-upload setup can take time and may start over after signing out or reinstalling.
Check storage and the account used for syncing
If files will not upload or sync, check that the OneDrive account has available Microsoft storage. When storage is exceeded, Microsoft says new files cannot be uploaded, edited, or synced. This is a content-syncing limit; it is not established as the cause of an App Store app-update failure.

Make sure OneDrive is showing the account where the affected files belong. If you use both personal and work or school accounts, check the relevant one rather than assuming they share storage or sync status. Microsoft’s mobile troubleshooting guidance covers storage, uploads, and account-related issues.

Reset OneDrive for sync or camera-upload problems
- Open OneDrive and tap Profile > Settings > Account.
- If more than one account is configured, select the account with the sync or upload problem.
- Tap Reset and allow OneDrive to restart its sync process.
This is Microsoft’s recommended in-app reset path for OneDrive sync or camera-upload issues on iOS. If the problem remains, Microsoft says: “If you still have issues, uninstall and reinstall the app.”

Reinstall OneDrive if resetting does not help
Uninstalling the iPhone app does not delete files stored in OneDrive. Microsoft says those files remain available at OneDrive.com after you sign in again. Reinstalling resets app settings and triggers a full sync, so you may need to set up preferences such as camera upload again; a large library can take time to sync.
- Before uninstalling, confirm that you can sign in to the account containing your files.
- Uninstall OneDrive from the iPhone, then install it again from the App Store.
- Sign in to the correct account and restore any preferences, including camera-upload settings you use.
- Allow the app time to complete its full sync, especially if it contains a large photo or file library.

Get help when the issue persists
For a sign-in problem, Microsoft directs personal-account users to account help and work or school users to their organization’s IT administrator in applicable cases. You can also use support from within OneDrive. If the app itself cannot be installed, use the exact App Store error and your iOS version when seeking Apple or Microsoft support; the available Microsoft iOS guidance does not establish a universal fix for every App Store error.
